  • Gyudon (Beef Rice Bowl)
    gyudon The habit of eating gyudon is believed to have started during the Meiji Restoration where westernization started to take place in Japan. Gyudon (literally translated into beef bowl) is often eaten together with pickled ginger and a side dish of miso soup.
  • Ramen
    ramen Ramen is one of the most popular noodle dishes in Japan. There is a wide variation of ramen within Japan, from the tonkotsu (pork bone broth) in Kyushu to miso ramen in Hokkaido.
  • Japanese Curry Rice
    curry rice Curry rice is a relatively recent addition to Japanese cuisine. It usually includes carrots, unions and potatoes in vegetable curry, and pork, chicken and beef in meat curry. It is sometimes eaten with breaded deep-fried chicken or pork cutlet, which is commonly known as katsu-kare.
  • Japanese Udon
    udon Udon is a type of thick wheat-flour noodle that is popular among ladies due to its simplicity. It can be served in hot or cold soup, or a separate bowl of sauce for dipping.

    Popular toppings of the udon include deep-fried tempura, kamaboko fish-cake and aburaage (deep fried tofu pockets).
