Amusing

Reviewed by: Squirrel Girl, 2016/05/11

This was my second time attending a show at Robot Restaurant since both times have been with people who were visiting me here in Japan. I do not know whether it is because they change the content periodically or because it was an afternoon show this time, but the outfits were less revealing than the first time I went. It also seemed to take longer between each segment. Nevertheless, it is a fun thing to do if you are looking for something a bit unusual. It is definitely aimed at tourists, and most of the attendees are foreigners. This particular deal did not include a meal, but they have snacks available there as well as boxed meals if there are any left over. The "Restaurant" part of the name is actually a bit misleading since it is really about the show. Lots of lights, crazy costumes, and energetic dancers, so I recommend it if that is the kind of thing you enjoy.

Robot Frenzy

Reviewed by: Zoe, 2016/05/02

Robot restaurant is an incredible experience for the entire family. The entry hall consists of autographs of famous people. The room is quite small, so you are very close to the robots. Imagine a Tokyo/Las Vegas Anime/Godzilla style production. Highly recommended!!

Smooth transaction, outdated show

Reviewed by: SMG, 2016/05/02

Saved 2000 yen thanks to Veltra! No problems at all in getting our tickets. Place was easy to find thanks to the instructions.
The show needs to update its story line or to make a story line! I can imagine that it would've been fun and cool 15 years ago. The story plots were ridiculous. Price is similar to a Cirque du soleil ticket but the performances are totally different in quality. Not coming back.

The most amazing show in the history of ever in the universe

Reviewed by: Doug, 2016/04/20

Title says it all. If that doesn't convince you, this show is probably not your cup of tea.

However Veltra misrepresented the free kids' drink and snack. Apparently it is only available at the afternoon show.

Off the rails show

This was my second time watching this show. While the number of acts has dropped, the acts that remain have gotten more elaborate. There is downtime in-between the shows for you to go to the toilet or get a drink.

Robot restaurant

Reviewed by: Anna, 2016/04/16

I did not like the show. Half of the time is spent waiting for preparation of the next action. Each action lasts for 3-5 min and then you get different waiters going around with signboards offering you to buy drinks or snacks or souvenirs for good 10-15 minutes so you just sit and wait till they finish their 'duty'. Show itself is colourful but kind of childish. You get robots moving around only at the last part of the show. If I am offered to see it second time, I will refuse.

Insane!

Reviewed by: jennav, 2016/04/13

Words can't describe! It's confusing and loud and over the top but so much fun. The actors/dancers really feed off the audience so make sure you get into it! Thought the ending could have been more climactic but I can't complain really. Get there early to have a few drinks and enjoy the robot jazz band. And try to ask for seats near the middle (any row).

Mr Roboto Fun!

Awesome Fun.
Had to queue at the ticket office with the voucher so would recommend getting there a little bit earlier to get a front row seat.
Loved the décor & floor to ceiling video walls.
Great fun atmosphere made you feel like a kid again.
Amazing 'full on' performances with the dancers giving it their all!
Some of the costumes were a bit tatty but the enthusiasm more than made up for it.
Drinks weren't too pricey at 500 yen but and the sushi box looked like good value.
Highly recommended... I'd like to go again the next time I'm in Shinjuku

Absolutely mental

Reviewed by: Amy, 2016/04/03

Wasn't sure what to expect but this was basically a completely nuts way to spend 90 mins. It was essentially a cabaret-type show that comprises mostly dancers in a variety of bewildering costumes all putting on a show in a number of acts that basically have no coherent narrative. There are a few robots as well interspersed throughout which culminates in a finale that is a complete assault on the senses. I had no idea what was going on and I loved it.

The place is a complete tourist trap and everyone there seemed to either love it or hate it. If you're into stuff that's so bad it's good and a bit tongue in cheek then you'll probably love this. It is very hard to explain what the whole experience was like, you'd have to see it to believe it. It's actually all a bit surreal but it was hilarious and the performers really threw themselves into the performance. I really enjoyed it!

Don't take young kids - there were children under 5 there and even a couple of babies which really wasn't appropriate. The show is very loud and smoky with flashing lights everywhere.

And don't eat the food - it looked awful and almost no one had chosen the food option. Go get some decent food after the show. Also, you'll probably enjoy the show more if you've had a drink beforehand.

The show is very pricey but I'd say definitely worth it to see the crazy side of Tokyo. We got a 33% discount on tickets booked through a third party website so it's worth googling to book ahead beforehand to get a deal.

Psychedelic experience

Reviewed by: Linda, 2016/04/03

I'm a harsh critic. Lots of tourists. Take it or leave it. It is at times cheesy but the robots were pretty cool if you're into that type of stuff. It's probably better for families with kids than for grown adults. I paid about $45 a person for just the show and I probably wouldn't pay any more than that. It's 2.5 hours of crazy lights and robots.

My husband and I went to the Robot Restaurant with out six year old son and we all loved it! Definitely unlike anything you will ever see. There were a handful of kids and they passed out noise canceling headphones to them which was a nice touch! I looked at several places to but the tickets and this was the cheapest and it was all very easy and smooth. Highly recommend both the show and Veltra!

Simply out of this world!

Reviewed by: Anita, 2016/03/18

It's insane, out of this world and you should experience it once in your life eventhough it's a typical tourist trap outfit. It's loud, whacky, there's so many things going on at one time. Like a sensory overload. You just need to sit back relax, enjoy and just go with it. It was mind boggling. My kids were 3-4 and they are very much in the "why" phase. "Mummy, why is the dancing horse person kissing the horse statue?" LOL! Honestly- i had no answer for that. I was at loss for words but it was definitely an experience. You really cant explain much but my answer was this...Only in Japan. You could experience this... only in Japan. You've got to see it to believe it :-)

Great fun

Reviewed by: Jon D, 2016/02/27

I had high expectations based on comments from others, and at its peak this show exceeded them - it really has to be seen to be believed. 1 star removed for the frequent intermissions (which means that there is really only around 40 mins of performance within the 90 minute show), the high cost, and the Kabukicho location which made it a little uncomfortable bringing our children. That said, Veltra was the cheapest option I could find, making it much more acceptable vlaue for money compared to the undiscounted ticket prices.

Mostly Tourists But Well Worth The Price Of Admission

Reviewed by: Joel Hood, 2016/02/06

Robot Restaurant is one of those places that you must experience to understand. The lobby and stairwell are incredibly opulent, tacky, and charming. It's hard for your brain to process. We got there about 30 minutes before showtime and were awarded great front row seats. In my opinion you have to sit in the front row. Everything is right in your face and I mean could possibly take your head off if it were an inch closer. The show is weird, charming, and at some point will make you smile and say wtf. I highly recommend a visist on your next Japan adventure just don't expect to be the only tourist catching the show.
