A nice intro into Japanese calligraphy

Reviewed by: Cassandra Brown, 2019/03/30

Our instructors were very nice and patient in showing the basics of Japanese calligraphy! Japanese calligraphy takes a lot of practice to master! So what was learned was basic brush strokes and proper techniques in holding ours brush! Just in one hr I learned a lot about Japanese calligraphy and basic proper techniques!

Lovely relaxing artistic class

Reviewed by: Christa, 2018/04/07

This class was easy to find and the ladies who ran the class were lovely. They gave great instruction in English and were keen to give us choice in what we did. The materials that we used were high quality and plentiful. We thoroughly enjoyed the morning. There was a chance to take photos at the end. We could bring home our final piece and our practice pieces. Thank you for a lovely time.

Best Day Ever...I learned to write my name

Reviewed by: Kit, 2018/02/24

I had the best time. The instructor was a lovely man who looks extremely stern...and he was, but he was also very kind. He even made the "uuuummm" good job noise.
The lesson was a little over an hour, and in the begining I didn't think I would EVER get it, but he was patient and I kept at it. And in the end I have a wonderful souvineer.

Wonderful Experience at the Koishikawa Korean

Reviewed by: D&T Iyama-Kurtycz, 2016/06/09

This was just the experience we were looking for. Mr. Takeshi Yanagi and Ms. Haruko Matono provided a discussion of the history and philosophy behind Japanese Calligraphy before we practiced generating characters based on one word that was important to us. The instructors were kind, encouraging and passionate about their art. We were shown the tools and guided through the method. Obviously, 1.5 hours will not make you competent in something that takes years of study, but by the end of the session we had made something that looked almost reasonable to western eyes. These are nice people due your respect. As for our words, I chose "adapt" and my wife chose "gentle".
