Even after 50 years after his death in the sewers of Vienna, Orson Welles‘ Harry Lime still haunts the city. The scars of the WW2 have long disappeared but surprisingly, most of the locations of Carol Reed‘s 1949 film noir classic have remained unchanged.

And of course there is that famous zither music.

What is "The Third Man"?

In case you have yet to see this film that is still considered one of the all-time greatest films here is a short summary:

The Third Man is set in Post-World War II Vienna during the Allied Occupation. American writer, Holly Martins, comes to Vienna to see his friend Harry Lime. However, he arrives in Vienna to find that his friend had died in an accident. Martins then begins to get tangled up in a web of intrigue surrounding his friends death. This film of betrayal, friendship, while reflecting the difficulties that Vienna faced during the Allied Occupation.

This film has won the 1949 Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, the BAFTA for Best Film and an Academy Award for Best Black and White Cinematography.
