I was picked up at the hotel lobby, and that day we had the Kinsakuhara Walk in the morning and a mangrove tour in the afternoon. Between the morning and afternoon activities, we returned to the city of Naze for lunch, where I had a solo meal at the recommended chicken restaurant "Torishin."
Since it was a one-on-one tour with just one guest and one guide, I was able to proceed at my own pace, and I could ask questions without hesitation if I didn't understand something, making it a more enjoyable experience than I expected.
It was my first time riding a canoe, but after a brief lecture, I managed to steer it. I was also able to do some self-photography while on the canoe by attaching my phone to a selfie stick without any issues.
ホテルのロビーまで迎えに来ていただき、この日は午前に金作原ウォーク、午後にマングローブツアーでした。午前と午後の間に昼食のため、一度名瀬の市街地に戻り、紹介していただいた鳥料理の店「鳥しん」で、一人昼食をとりました。
お客１人、ガイド１人のマンツーマンなので、自分のペースでツアーを進めてもらえるのと、わからないことがあれば気がねなく質問できるので、思った以上に楽しいツアーでした。
カヌーに乗るのは初めてでしたが、簡単なレクチャーをしてもらって何とか操縦することが出来ました。自撮り棒に携帯電話を装着して、カヌーに乗りながらセルフ撮影も問題なく出来ました。
季節によって異なるかもしれませんが、ツアーの終了時間は午後５時頃でした。

The morning mangrove canoe tour was a relaxing experience, perfectly timed with the tides, allowing us to drift along the river with hardly any paddling required.
In the afternoon, we explored Kinsakuhara before other visitors arrived! We were welcomed by the sight of the "Austrian Great Spotted Woodpecker" and the sound of it pecking at the trees as we started our adventure.
I couldn't stop looking around at the 360° panorama of the ancient forest. When I looked up, I saw the gigantic Hikagehego with its geometric-patterned leaves. The scenery felt like it could bring forth a prehistoric bird at any moment.
To top it all off, a "Rurikekesu" came to say goodbye, and we were thrilled to catch a glimpse of its rare appearance.
Thanks to our guide, Mr. Kawashima, who had an incredible sense of nature and timing, this tour became a wonderful memory of Amami.

It was a very enjoyable and content-rich two hours.
I could hear the cries of the black rabbits among the animals that appeared in the pitch black, and the sky was filled with stars with few clouds.
On the forest road chosen by Mr. Kawashima, many black rabbits and Amami woodcocks welcomed us, and I was also able to see the rare Amami ishi-kawa frog.
While it can be affected by the weather and other night tours, I highly recommend this tour guided by Mr. Kawashima for 1 to 2 people.
非常に楽しく内容濃い2時間でした。
漆黒の中に現れる動物達、黒ウサギの鳴き声も聞け
雲も少なく満点の星空付きでした。
川島さんの選んだ林道で多くの黒ウサギとアマミヤマシギが出迎えてくれ、
珍しいアマミイシカワガエルも見ることができました。
天候や他のナイトツアーに影響を受けますが
是非、川島さんガイドで１～２名向きのツアーです。

I appreciated that this tour allows solo participants and provides transportation to and from the hotel, which is a rarity among many tours where participants must make their own way to the meeting point. Our guide, Mr. Kawashima, drove slowly while pointing out various creatures. During the tour, we encountered 5 to 6 Amami rabbits, observing them eating grass and fallen leaves, as well as climbing the slopes into the forest. We also saw the Ryukyu scops owl, the Ryukyu rat, the Ryukyu wild boar, and two types of frogs.
We learned about animal communication through the sounds of the rabbits and the different calls of the Ryukyu scops owl, as individuals responded to each other from a distance. Additionally, we were moved by the breathtaking starry sky when we got out of the car! Under the stars, a few fireflies were also dancing around.
Mr. Kawashima explained everything in a calm and pleasant manner, making for a very valuable and luxurious experience. It seems that reports of rabbits being killed by cars are not uncommon. I believe that the creatures and scenery we encounter can vary depending on the weather and the day's circumstances, but this tour not only allows us to be amazed by precious wildlife and beautiful starry skies but also encourages thoughts on the importance of protecting wildlife, ecosystems, and nature, while hoping for a harmonious balance with tourism and development. It’s a tour that also provides insight into the background of the area being designated as a World Heritage site!
ひとり参加ができること、集合場所に各自で向かうツアーが多いなか、宿泊しているホテルへの送迎があることが有り難かったです。
ガイドの川島さんが車をゆっくり走らせながら生き物を見つけて教えてくださいます。ツアー中、本命のアマミノクロウサギは5〜6羽に出会うことができ、草や落葉を食べる様子や山の斜面を登り森に入って行く姿、他にもリュウキュウコノハズク、ケナガネズミ、リュウキュウイノシシ、2種類のカエルも見ることができました。
ウサギの鳴き声、リュウキュウコノハズクの種類の違う鳴き声に離れた場所にいる個体同士が鳴き声に呼応し合う様子など耳からも生き物のコミュニケーションを知ることができました。
また、途中で車を降りて満天の星空にも感動！星空の下、数匹のホタルも舞っていました。
ガイドの川島さんは心地よい穏やかな語り口で丁寧に説明してくださり、そのお話も含めてとても貴重で贅沢な時間が過ごせました。ウサギが車に轢かれて死亡する報告も少なくないようです。天候やその日の縁で出会う生き物や景色も異なると思いますが、貴重な生き物やきれいな星空に感動するだけでなく、生き物や生態系・自然を守ることと、観光や開発が上手く調和してほしいなと感じたり、世界遺産に登録された背景も知ることができるツアーです！

In the mangroves, I enjoyed a calming canoe tour in the peaceful natural surroundings, which was very soothing. At Kinsakubaru, I was able to see cute and mysterious plants, and I was lucky enough to spot some endemic birds, making it an unforgettable experience. Despite it being a night tour, the weather forecast predicted rain. The day before, we had a detailed discussion about ① the possibility of a weather forecast error, ② what to do in case of light rain, and ③ what to do in case of heavy rain. On the day of the tour, we decided to go ahead despite the "weather that might go from light rain to heavy rain." As a result, it turned out to be a very satisfying tour where we encountered seven birds. Their short ears, short legs, and gestures were incredibly moving and cute.
I was trying to spot them myself in the center of the vehicle, fully focused and alert, but it was all thanks to our guide, Mr. Kawashima, that we found them. Unfortunately, I couldn't capture any good photo opportunities, so I have no pictures to show. For those participating in the tour who want to take at least one photo, it might be better to leave the spotting to Mr. Kawashima and be ready to "click the shutter at any time."
Additionally, we saw the Amami woodcock just sitting on a tree, the calls of the Japanese scops owl, and the green snake raising its head high, among others. Thanks to Mr. Kawashima's attentive guidance and appropriate local information, we had a very fruitful and valuable experience that went by in a flash. Thank you very much.

ナイトツアーなのに天気予報は雨。
前日から ①天気予報の間違い ②小雨の場合 ③土砂降りの場合
と、綿密な打ち合わせをして下さいました。
で、当日は「小雨から本降り かもしれない天候」の中、思い切って決行。
結果は、7羽に遭えるという、とても満足なツアーになりました。
短い耳、短い脚、しぐさ、とても感動的でかわいい。
車の中央で自分で見つけようと、180度神経を研ぎ澄ましていましたが、見つけたのは、すべてガイドの川島さん。シャッターチャンスを上手くつかめず、残念ながら1枚も写真が残りませんでした。
ツアーに参加される方で、1枚でも写真を残したい方は、発見は川島さんにお任せし、「何時でもシャッター」で、スタンバイされた方が良いかもしれません。
その他、ぼーっと木に止まっているだけのアマミヤマシギ、声だけのコノハズク、鎌首を思いっ切りもたげたアオヘビ、等々。
ガイドの川島さんの、丁寧なご対応と適切な現地案内のお陰で、
あっという間の、とても実りのある貴重な体験をさせて頂きました。
本当に、ありがとうございました。
