Private Mt. Fuji Tour from Tokyo with Arakura Sengen Shrine & Fuji Five Lakes

Oh Darn, It Rained

Reviewed by: Sara and Walt , 2019/12/01

We hoped to see Mt. Fuji, but, unfortunately, it rained the day of our booked tour and Mt. Fuji was not to be seen. But all was not lost. Our driver, Toshi, picked us up promptly at the scheduled time and drove us to the Mt. Fuji area. On the way he gave us information on local sites that we passed. Our guide, Yuko, was very knowledgeable and gave us options for our rainy day. Our driver and guide learned that we liked to hike so we went to a beautiful shrine at the base of Mt. Fuji and hiked on an ancient trail to the first station. A great way to experience Mt. Fuji on a rainy day. Yuko gave much information on local customs and the Shinto religion involving the mountain. We then had a leisurely lunch at a local restaurant. Following this, we chose to go to a museum featuring a world renowned textile artist who made kimono art. These were fabulous. It was then late in the day and we traveled back to Tokyo. A different experience than we hoped for due to the rain, but a memorable and enjoyable day thanks to Toshi and Yuko. We definitely recommend their services for guide and driver for the Mt. Fuji tour. They’re the best!

  • The Shinto Shrine at the base of Mt. Fuji

  • Our hike to the first station on Mt. Fuji.

Excellent tour

Reviewed by: Patsy McLaughlin, 2019/11/24

Ken and Ishi made our day very special.  We appreciate their efforts very much and would highly recommend them for their knowledge and professionalism.
Ishi was a most excellent driver in heavy traffic.
Ken answered our questions about the tour sights, as well as many about Japanese culture. He also amused us with a Japanese lesson during the long drive. When weather prevented us from seeing Mt. Fuji, they substituted other sights to compensate. The Hoto restaurant they chose for lunch was also excellent. We could not have had better, more attentive guides.
We give them the highest recommendation.

Comments from activity operators

Dear Patsy,

Thank you very much for your review. We are so glad you enjoyed our tour even in a rainy day. Though we couldn’t blow away clouds from Mt. Fuji with our breath, as you found, the area has many things that attract tourists around the year such as autumn foliage, cherry blossoms, museums, breweries etc. We are looking forward to serving you again.

Best wishes,
Ken

Exhilarating!!!

Reviewed by: Pinx, 2019/11/23

When we were on our way to Mt. Fuji, we felt so close to nature —- the trees were so autumn in color amidst the clear blue sky with strips of clouds on it just like the aurora borealis in Iceland. Mt. Fuji was a majestic sight and there was a blanket of clouds surrounding the area!! Our last stop was Gotemba outlet but it was so short of time. I hope next time, you could allot at least 3 hours since it’s the last in the itinerary. Our tour guide Allison was very kind and could speak English & Mandarin as well. She even volunteered to take our picture. The driver took good care of our trip. Thanks Veltra...

Fujitastic!

Reviewed by: DazzS, 2019/11/09

We had a wonderful day out with our driver, Tuk and our local guide, Yuko. We saw a quick film of Fuji and the information centre then went to fifth station to visit the shrine and to admire a closer view of Mount Fuji and the surrounding areas. We then visited a local restaurant for delicious noodles and sake. We then continued to Arakurayama Sengen Park to take photos of Mount Fuji with the Pagoda and continued to enjoy the local markets and stalls and the Autumn Leaves Festival at Kawaguchiko. We were able to take phots of Mount Fuji from a variety of different locations and our day was well paced as we have young children (3, 6 and 11 years).
Our day was pleasant as our guide and driver were very knowledgeable, polite, friendly and accommodated our preferences. Highly recommend this tour if you like your own space and you’re travelling in a small group.

Mt. Fuji & Hakone Tour from Tokyo with Lake Ashi Cruise & Ropeway Ride

Started well but deteriorated into boredom then chaos.

Reviewed by: Wayne, 2019/11/07

Pick up was efficient but the time was an hour later than that advertised in the literature, Mount Fuji was great, lunch was fine then it rapidly deteriorated. The post lunch itinerary was changed due to volcanic activity at the advertised ropeway. The lake cruise was forgettable, it was overcast and wind, it was very poorly supervised by the guide who gave garbled instructions that we couldn’t understand The ropeway was left to last by which time it was getting dark and the wind was getting up so we gave it a miss and poodles around for an hour in the souvenir stalls.

The return was chaotic we wasted ages dropping off people returning to Tokyo by train then it was a crawl even though the congestion wasn’t bad. It took more than 3 hours to cover the 70 km from the ropeway to our hotel

Tokyo Private 1-Day Tour from Yokohama Port or Hotel with Customizable Itinerary

Wonderful day with Ken Takahashi in Tokyo

Reviewed by: Ron Atkinson, 2019/10/28

On the day after Tokyo's massive typhoon and large earthquake, Ken Takahashi met us at the Yokohama port to provide the day tour in Tokyo we had reserved, originally planned the day earlier. Ken took us to all the places we wanted to see, with a few of them off the regular tourist path, with Tuck, our driver. We were so pleased to see the usual places tourists want to see, as well as take us to a bamboo forest. My wife also wanted to find an artisanal fan, and Ken found an excellent shop with wide choices with a 5th generation owner, and he helped her purchase one with a stand. Ken also took us to a tea ceremony, and then a tempura lunch, the best tempura we've ever eaten. He has an excellent knowledge of history and of the city, and with his experience, and our interests, he curated an active and meaningful 8-hour day. After the day, he created an edited video of our day (taken with his Go-Pro camera) and promptly sent it to us along with a journal of the day. One of the things we found most thoughtful was the coordination of Tuck's dropping us off close to the places we wanted to see, and then magically Tuck picked us up at a very close location, to maximize our valuable time that day. Wonderful day with Ken, and proactive communication with Veltra (Taiji) when we all realized that the typhoon was going to hit Tokyo on exactly the day we had planned our tour. We were so grateful that our tour could be pushed back one day.

Comments from activity operators

Dear Ron, Thank you very much for your review. We are so glad to know you and your wife enjoyed the tour.

As you experienced, we always try to meet your request whenever possible. The bamboo forest in Yokohama you visited is not known so well even among local people. We also glad you enjoyed the tea ceremony session as an optional choice where you actually prepared Maccha (the powdered green tea) by yourselves and served it to your partners. Your smiles made us happy. Once again, thank you very much for giving us an opportunity to serve you. Please come again!

Cheers, Ken

Great Tour, fully enjoyed ourselves!

Reviewed by: Marcus, 2019/10/22

Brought mom on this tour today! It was her first time in Tokyo, and I was quite worried how the tour would turn out given the weather forecast (rain!) and the reported closures of certain attractions caused by the recent typhoon. As it turned out, our worries were unfounded! While it was indeed raining as we were boarding the bus this morning, the weather started to clear as we head closer to Mt Fuji. The tour agency also made very good arrangements for us to have a great time. Coupled with the enthusiastic tour guide Jane, I would say our whole bus-load of people truly had an unforgettable day out! And guess what we found at Mt.Fuji? None other than Mt.Fuji!! I know this may not make sense, but you'd be surprised how many people went to Mt Fuji without seeing it...mainly due to weather issues. Well, we thought we wouldn't be able to catch it, but we did...snow-capped no less!

Really appreciate the quality of the tour, the seamless arrangements from one destination to another, and the professionalism show by the tour guide, and our bus driver. Couldn't have asked for more. Thumbs up!

Budget-friendly Mt. Fuji Tour from Shinjuku with Chureito Pagoda & Oshino Hakkai

Very rushed.

Reviewed by: Nad, 2019/08/14

Due to the holiday season, there was a jam towards our destination. What usually was a 90mins drive became a 3 hours drive up and 21/2 hours drive back. So we had to cut short the time spent at all our pitstops. 30 mins each at the first, 2nd and 3rd. There were 7 ponds we should visit at the last stop, but by the time we walk from the bus bay to the first pond, it's time to walk back towards the bus. We only had 1hr at the premium outlet. Again we were parked a distance away, which left us with 45mins to shop and to queue to pay. Totally ridiculous. It felt like we have totally wasted our money on this tour. Rushed and ran the whole time. And with a child in tow, it certainly took away all the fun. Maybe it is just the wrong time to go during the holiday season.

The tour was definately good value for money as trains to get there on your own and back would work out more expensive. We really did enjoy all the places we went to but time we spent there went so fast I wish we'd booked longer tour. Time flies when you're having fun! Also this is not like a guided tour, it's more like bus tour that takes you to these places and drop you off and you go do your own thing which was good for us. Overall good value for money and definately worth seeing but it's shame we didn't get to spend more time.

Perfect private tour of Mt. Fuji & Surrounding area

Reviewed by: MC from Canada, 2019/07/12

My family (3 adults, 2 children) had an incredible time during this tour which was individualized for us based on our requests and preferences. Our guide Takashi was extremely knowledgeable, spoke excellent English and taught us so much about not only Mt. Fuji but Japan and Japanese culture. Additionally, Takashi’s broad international knowledge and understanding provided an added perspective and important context on Japan’s place globally today. Our driver Toshi was also excellent and entertaining and because of his understanding of weather patterns on the mountain, we made 2 critical stops along the way that allowed us to see the peak despite some poor weather conditions overall. Takashi took us to an incredible restaurant for lunch, a meal that all of us enjoyed and none of us will forget. An incredible trip overall which was made even better by the connection we made with our guide Takashi. On a personal note, I left my phone in the vehicle and Takashi & Toshi ensured that it was returned to me the same evening! It was much appreciated! I would highly recommend this private tour and ask for Takashi!

We only had one full day in Japan on our way home to Australia so we decided to take a tour out to the iconic Mt Fuji. We were picked up right on schedule from our hotel and spent about half an hour collecting other people from various locations before heading out to Mt Fuji. Our guide entertained us along the way with some history and personal anecdotes and even a little sing-along in Japanese. The weather favoured us too, the day being clear and sunny, so we were able to see the peak. The only downside was the cold wind. I was wishing for earmuffs! The cable car ride was cancelled due to the wind but we were able to see a lovely peace park instead. We could have returned to Tokyo on the bus, but we opted for the Bullet train instead. Our guide made all that easy. The experience of seeing those fantastic trains whooshing through the station while we waited for ours was amazing in itself. I'd definitely recommend this tour.
