On my first trip to Shiretoko, I wanted to make the most of the opportunity, so I joined this tour (the Great Loop). The tour was very fulfilling as I learned various things about Shiretoko's history, geography, and flora and fauna. I felt a bit nervous when I was shown the fresh bear claw marks and feeding grounds, but I was able to walk for three hours with peace of mind alongside an experienced guide. While many people seem to walk without a guide, I was able to fully enjoy the great nature of Shiretoko that I wouldn't have noticed otherwise!

I had a veteran guide who showed me points that I definitely wouldn't have noticed if I were exploring on my own, such as bear claw marks, traces of ptarmigan eggs, and holes left by bears after eating hornet nests. The guide was also very knowledgeable about plants and the history of the land, making the three hours feel very short! I definitely want to come back to Shiretoko.

However, on days with unfavorable weather, there are lectures at the nearby field house, and if you're not familiar with the area, you won't be allowed to walk close to each lake without a guide. I recommend that first-time visitors join a tour with a guide, as they are professionals who know Shiretoko well and provide plenty of valuable information. The lakes may still have ice and snow until around Golden Week, so if you're not coming to see the snowy scenery, visiting between August and October might be more advisable. Just keep in mind that the true master of Shiretoko is not humans but the brown bears, so if even one bear appears during the tour, all tours at Shiretoko Five Lakes for that day will be canceled for everyone, so please be cautious.

This tour will definitely be a core memory that will never be forgotten. Taki San speaks very good English and is well aware and informed of the history of the Eastern Hokkaido region aside from being super friendly and hospitable. He made sure that I enjoyed every second of it. I am happy that I wont be worried anymore if I ever come back to Eastern Hokkaido as Peacan Kikaku is the answer.

熊の目撃情報により、１部の散策路が閉鎖中でしたが、後に解除になり全て体験出来ました。

解除にならない場合もあるそうで、その場合の選択肢もいくつか提案して下さいました。

棲んでいる動物の生態はもちろん、知床国立公園が出来上がるまでの歴史、世界遺産になるまでとそれに纏わる事など、話の幅がとても広く、大変興味深いお話でいっぱいでした。
ただ歩いているだけでは気づけない事だらけでしたので、すごく楽しかったです。

汚れて良い靴で行きましたが、前日の雨でぬかるみがあるからと長靴を貸して頂くことに。
実際は大きな水溜まりもあり、長靴様々でした。
前日の天気状況などわからなかったので、このようなご配慮も助かりました。

その他にも、近くの絶景ポイントやお店の事まで教えて下さったりとても親切にして頂きました。

I joined during the waiting time before my flight home, and it turned out to be more enjoyable than I expected; I'm glad I participated in this tour.

After reaching the endpoint by canoe, all participants took a van back. On the day of the event, four families participated, and I think there were a total of 12 people, including children. Due to the rain, we boarded a single closed vehicle to return to the starting point. Two families knew each other and spent the entire ride talking and laughing loudly, which made me concerned about the risk of COVID-19 infection. There were no COVID-19 prevention measures in place.

2家族が知り合い同士で、この2家族が到着までずっと大声で話したり笑ったりしていて、コロナの感染が心配でした。
コロナ感染対策が出来ていなかった。
