The guide, Ayano, was indeed a veteran as mentioned in the reviews, and we had a fun time exploring. She taught us various things, including information about bears and deer, how to determine the age of plants, and that in case of getting lost, it's good to eat the leaves and fruits of thorny plants. The binoculars were fantastic; they were ready to use without needing to adjust the focus, and I was thrilled to see faraway sights clearly.

It seems that during the hot summer, bears tend to wander near the roads around Shiretoko Goko in the evening, so I thought I would drive there during that time on my next visit. On the way back, I was quite happy to see a mother bear and her cubs at the Iwaubetsu River, although unfortunately, they didn't catch any salmon. Thank you for pointing out the viewing spots from the top of the cliff.

ガイドの綾野さんは口コミ通りベテランで楽しく散策できました。
熊や鹿の情報情報はもちろん、植物の年齢の見方や、遭難した時はトゲのある植物の葉っぱや実を食べると良いこと等様々なことを教えていただきました。
双眼鏡が素晴らしくピントを自分で調整しなくてもすぐ使え遠くがはっきりと見え感激しました。
熊さんは暑い夏は夕方知床五湖の近くの道路付近をうろうろしているらしく、次回行く時はその時間帯にドライブしてみようと思いました。
帰り道イワウベツ川に鮭を捕りに来た熊さん母子が見れてかなり嬉しかったです。残念ながら鮭は捕れませんでしたが。崖の上から見えるポイントを教えていただきありがとうございました。

I received a message the day before, and they picked me up at the hotel. The walking tour lasted three hours in the morning and three hours in the afternoon, and as it is called a walking tour, it was a leisurely stroll that children and older participants could join. We were blessed with good weather, and the guide provided detailed explanations, showcasing the wonderful scenery of Shiretoko and the animals we encountered by chance, making it a very fulfilling tour. The only disappointment was that we couldn't see any bears. I thought it would be nice to participate in a different season as well.

For lunch, we returned to Utoro, where the guide introduced us to a recommended restaurant. By the way, I had a seafood bowl.

前日に連絡があり、ホテルにピックアップしてくれました。午前3時間、午後3時間のウォーキングですが、ウォーキングと言うだけあって、のんびり散策できお子さん、年齢が高い方も参加できるのではないでしょうか。天気にも恵まれ、ガイドさんの丁寧な説明、素晴らしい知床の景色、偶然出会う動物などとても充実したツアーでした。残念なことは熊を見ることができなかったことくらいです。また、違う季節で参加しても良いと思いました。
お昼はウトロまで戻り、ガイドさんがおすすめの店を紹介してくれます。ちなみに私は海鮮丼を食べました。

There were fallen trees throughout the area to preserve nature, and I learned that these fallen trees play an important role in the natural cycle, awakening my awareness of the forest's vitality. This is a place that you might pass by without noticing, so I highly recommend taking a guided tour. The weather affected the scenery, so I rated it as "good," but the content was undoubtedly "excellent!" Thank you very much.

当日大雨で知床五湖への道が通行止めになってツアーが変更になったり、その後開通してまた当初のツアーに戻ったり、アクシデント続きでしたが、その都度柔軟に対応してくださり、ガイドの綾野さんには感謝しかありません。雨を予想して長靴をリクエストしておいて正解でした。おかげさまで途中で雨が降ってきても滑らず順調に歩けました。自然のままに保存するためあちこちに倒木がありましたが、倒木にも自然のサイクルの中で重要な役割があることを教えていただき、森の生命力の強さに目が覚めた思いでした。知らなければ通り過ぎてしまうところでしたが、ここは是非ガイド付きのツアーをお勧めします。天候に左右されて景色はいまいちだったので評価は「よかった」ですが、内容は文句なく「最高！」です。ありがとうございました。

I was able to fully enjoy Shiretoko in just one day. I was moved to encounter wild deer and squirrels! The guide introduced various things at a good pace, and there was no wasted time, which was great. The guide was also very knowledgeable, and listening to them sparked my interest in plants, animals, and the terrain. The measures against brown bears were thorough, which made me feel safe.

Regarding COVID-19 measures, alcohol disinfection, mask-wearing, and avoiding crowded places were all properly implemented, allowing me to participate with peace of mind.

The weather wasn't very good this time, so I would like to see a sunny Shiretoko someday. Of course, I would like to book with Veltra!

I experienced stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) for the first time at Lake Shikotsu. Fortunately, it didn't rain, and although the sky was cloudy, the underwater view from the transparent SUP was blue, with beautiful aquatic plants in the river. I felt refreshed both physically and mentally! Next time, I want to paddleboard during a prettier season. I also enjoyed having lovely photos taken.

I was really looking forward to the Shiretoko Five Lakes tour, and it exceeded my expectations in terms of enjoyment. During the walk, we received detailed explanations about the nature and wildlife of Shiretoko, and thanks to the breathtaking scenery, the three-hour hike flew by without a dull moment! I wanted to enjoy the nature of Shiretoko, but I was scared of the brown bears, so I signed up for a walking tour. This was a great decision. Our guide, Mr. Umebayashi, is a veteran with 17 years of experience on this trail. He taught us about the signs of brown bears feeding, the traces of their hibernation nests, and various information about the animals and plants of Shiretoko that you would never notice just by walking normally. It was very refreshing and interesting to see how the scenery changes when you gain knowledge.

I saw Ezo deer up close twice, as well as a peregrine falcon and a white-tailed eagle. The day flew by in no time.

It was my first time in Shiretoko, and I really liked it. I want to visit again in a different season. It seems like it would be fun to see the scenery during the drift ice season.

これが大正解
ガイドの梅林さんはこの道17年のベテラン。
普通に歩くだけじゃ絶対に分からないヒグマが餌を食べた跡、冬眠の巣の跡、知床の動物や植物の事、色々教えてもらいました。
知識を得ると歩いたときの見える景色が変わるのがとても新鮮で面白かったです。
動物は、間近でエゾシカを2回見たのを始め、ハヤブサ、ホオジロワシも生で見えました。
ほんとあっという間に1日が終わりました。

初めての知床でしたが、とても気に入りました。
次は違う季節にまた行きたいです。
流氷のシーズンとかまた別の景色が見れて楽しそう

I ended up participating alone at the last minute, but I finally got to experience canoeing. It wasn't a single-person kayak, but I was able to paddle on my own. Since it was an afternoon tour, I had heard that the chances of encountering animals were low, but surprisingly, I got to see an Ezo deer, a white-tailed eagle, and a red-crowned crane. I thought I was pressing the shutter on my camera, but I accidentally recorded a video, capturing the flying crane as a bonus. The guide shared various stories, and it was a very fulfilling experience to connect with nature.

　急遽一人参加になってしまいましたが、念願のカヌー体験をしました。一人乗りのカヤックではなかったですが、自分でも漕ぐことが出来ました。午後からのツアーだったので、動物に出会えるチャンスは少ないとお聞きしていましたが、なんと、エゾシカ、オジロワシ、タンチョウ鶴と出会えることが出来ました。カメラのシャッターを切ったつもりが、ビデオを押してしまい飛んでいる鶴を撮影出来たというおまけ付きでした。ガイドさんが色々お話してくださり、大自然と触れ合うことが出来てとても充実した体験でした。

I wanted to paddle a canoe in the Kushiro Wetlands. I wanted to paddle as much as possible by myself.

At first, that was all I thought about when I joined this tour.

However, what I actually experienced was the tranquility of the surroundings, with the occasional sound of birds, as I slowly paddled the canoe and encountered a pair of Japanese cranes with their chick. There were three of them: the pair and the chick.

Later, I spotted a pair of Steller's sea eagles perched in a tree ahead...

Honestly, encountering wildlife was an unexpected event, and I was continuously surprised.

According to our guide, whether you see animals depends on timing; it’s not just about being early in the morning, and you never know when you might see them.

The guide was very experienced, and they took measures against insects in the shuttle and canoe, allowing us to participate comfortably.

They also provided detailed explanations about the history of the wetlands and the habits of the animals.

As for my initial goal of paddling the canoe, although I was moving the paddle, I ended up taking photos with my smartphone, enjoying the scenery, and listening to the guide's stories, which made for a packed experience.

It would be a waste to only use the wonderful wetland environment for canoeing.

Thanks to arriving early at the meeting point and taking care of things like using the restroom, we were able to start quickly, and it might have been good that there were no other canoes around.

It was a wonderful experience, filled with the amazing environment of the Kushiro Wetlands, the animals, and the thoughtful care of our experienced guide.

ところが、実際に参加して
そこで体験したのは
鳥の声が時折聞こえる静寂の中
ゆっくり進むカヌーと
タンチョウヅルの親子との出合いでした。
つがいとひな鳥の3羽でした。

その後、前方の木の上には
天然記念物のオジロワシのつがいが...

正直、動物に会うことは想定外の出来事で
驚きの連続でした。

ガイドさんの話では、
動物に会えるかはタイミングの問題で
朝早ければいいというものでもないし、
いつ会えるかは全くわからないそうです。

ガイドさんは、とてもベテランの方で
送迎車やカヌーにも防虫対策を
していただき、気持ちよく参加出来ました。

湿地の歴史や動物の習性の説明なども
詳しく説明してくださいました。

当初目的のカヌー漕ぎは、
パドルは動かしてはいるものの
スマホでの撮影や景色を観たり、
ガイドさんのお話を聞いたりと
盛りだくさんで
どこかへ行ってしまいました。

折角の素晴らしい湿地の環境を
カヌー漕ぎだけに使うのはもったいない
ですよね。

当日集合場所に、早めに到着しお手洗いなどを
済ませていたおかげで、早くスタート出来て
周りにカヌーがなかったことも
良かったのかもしれません。

素晴らしい釧路湿原の環境と動物達
それにベテランのガイドさんの
お気遣いに感謝の素晴らしい体験でした。

There were no other participants on the tour, so I had the Shiretoko Five Lakes exploration all to myself. This meant there was no crowding, and I was able to take my time with photography and leisurely explore the five lakes. Not only did we walk around the lakes, but I also learned about the importance of fallen trees and moss in nurturing Shiretoko's nature, as well as information about insects and plants, and the bears that eat them. I felt that everything in Shiretoko's nature is interconnected.

Before heading out on the tour, we received a lecture on how to deal with bears. Without this knowledge, you cannot participate in the tour. I learned that it is more important to know how to avoid encounters with bears than to know what to do if you see one. If we encounter a bear or are near one, we will follow the guide's instructions. Our guide was a knowledgeable veteran who communicated with the headquarters via radio, which was reassuring. The phrase "Leave everything to me" made me feel at ease.

However, we must remember that we are entering the bears' home in the great outdoors, so our belongings and preparations are crucial. As mentioned in the tour briefing, we should not bring any food to avoid attracting bears. Even sucking on candy is prohibited. Drinks should be tea or water, and sweet sports drinks are strictly forbidden due to bears' excellent sense of smell for food.

If you do bring a drink, it's recommended to use a thermos instead of a plastic bottle to avoid littering. (You can fill it with ice from the hotel’s ice machine to enjoy cold water.) Because we are in the great outdoors, there are no restrooms along the course. You won't be able to use the restroom for three hours, so make sure to go beforehand. It's also important to stay on the designated paths. The ground in Shiretoko is made of volcanic rocks, so there are rugged paths with rocky terrain and roots, so wear comfortable athletic shoes, sneakers, or trekking shoes. (I wore sneakers and had no issues.)

During the summer, there are many flies, and to avoid tick bites, I recommend wearing lightweight long sleeves and using insect repellent.

This experience not only allowed me to enjoy the scenery but also prompted me to think about how to protect Shiretoko's great nature. If you approach it with the mindset of learning rather than just sightseeing, I believe you will have a great time. It was a very meaningful, enjoyable, and beautiful tour.

他のツアー参加の方がおらず、私一人の知床五湖散策でした。なので、三密にもならず、写真撮影タイムもじっくりとっていただき、ゆっくり五湖をめぐることができました。湖をめぐるだけでなく、知床の自然を育むために大切な倒木や苔の話、昆虫や植物、それを食べる熊の生体と、丁寧に教えていただき、知床の自然は全てつながっているんだなと感じることが出来ました。
ツアーに出かける前に、レクチャー室で熊への対処法を教えていただきました。この熊への対処法を教わらないと、ツアーに行くことが出来ません。
熊に会ったらどうするかより、熊に合わないためにどうするかが大切だということを学びました。
熊に出会ったり近くにいる場合は、ガイドさんの指示に従います。知識を持ったベテランのガイドさんで、本部と無線で連絡を取りながら回りますので、心強いです「全て私に任せて下さい。」という言葉に安心しました。

しかし、相手は大自然。熊たちが住むお家にお邪魔する気持ちが大切で、持ち物や準備が重要です。
ツアー説明にもあるように、熊が寄ってこないように食べ物は一切持たないこと。飴をなめながらも厳禁です。飲み物はお茶か水。甘いスポーツドリンクは厳禁です。熊は食べ物に対する嗅覚が優れているためです。
持っていくならキャップを落としたりして自然を汚さないよう、ペットボトルではなく、水筒がお勧めです。（ホテルの製氷機の氷を入れて行くことで、冷たい水を飲むことも出来ますよ。）大自然故に、コースにトイレは一切ありません。3時間はトイレに行けませんので、事前に済ませましょう。遊歩道から外れないで歩くことも大切ですが、知床の大地は、火山から噴火した噴石で地面が出来ていて、ゴツゴツした岩の道、木の根っこで凸凹した道もあるため、歩きやすい運動靴やスニーカー、トレッキングシューズで行きましょう。（私はスニーカーで行きましたが問題なかったです。）
夏の時期はアブも沢山発生しますし、マダニに噛まれないようにするため、夏用の薄手の長袖、虫除けスプレーをしていったほうが良いと思います。

景色だけでなく、知床の大自然やこの大自然を守っていくためにどうしたらよいか考えるきっかけにもなりました。単なる観光ではなく、勉強しに行く気持ちで行くと、楽しめると思います。とても有意義な楽しく美しいツアーでした。

It was my first time in Eastern Hokkaido and my first time in Shiretoko. Since it was the season when brown bears appear, we couldn't walk the ground trails without a guided tour. Walking with a knowledgeable guide who explained the trees, flowers, birds, insects, and surrounding mountains allowed me to learn many things I didn't know and notice things I hadn't before. Although I didn't encounter any brown bears during the hike, I had the surprising experience of coming across a mother and cub on the way to the five lakes from our accommodation.

I think I would have just passed by without noticing the types of trees, reasons for the scars, and the terrain without the guide. The day before, they kindly contacted us by phone regarding the meeting place and attire. On the day of the tour, since there were only a few participants, they explained what we could see and the sounds we could hear while walking. Additionally, when participants asked questions about things they found interesting, they provided detailed explanations, which made me very satisfied.

At one point, a hornet the size of a thumb appeared, but thanks to their professional handling with 17 years of experience, I felt very safe.

It seems we were fortunate with the weather and conditions that day, as we were able to see the beautiful water quality of Lake Shikotsu from our kayaks amidst stunning scenery. The guide was very kind, and I learned a lot about Lake Shikotsu. I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly and thorough the conversation was. All the staff members were always smiling, and we truly had a wonderful time. The infection control measures were also thorough, so I highly recommend this activity to anyone visiting Hokkaido.

On the day of the trip, it was quite windy and rainy in the morning, but when we arrived at the location, we were greeted by blue skies, warm weather, and a moment when the wind stopped and the waves were completely calm, allowing us to see beautifully down to the deep bottom. It was also the first time this year that we saw it, and through the clear kayak, we encountered a large, bright blue river master (carp), which was a mystical and wonderful experience. Thank you to our guide for being so kind and teaching us various things. On the way back, we stopped by Marukoma Onsen, where we received a discount coupon, and the open-air bath close to the lake surface was spectacular and enjoyable. My daughter and I had a lovely little trip together.

It was amazing to enjoy canoeing at our own pace in the great outdoors! We were able to see various animals such as wild deer, eagles, cranes, and foxes, which was an invaluable experience.

The option for transportation was very appreciated. Our guide was very friendly and introduced us to recommended izakayas during the ride, allowing us to have a wonderful night.

Next, I would like to experience canoeing in the summer as well.

大自然の中でゆったり自分たちのペースでカヌーを楽しむことができ、最高でした！
野生のシカ、ワシ、タンチョウ、キツネなど様々な動物を見ることもでき、この上ない貴重な体験でした。

オプションとして送迎がついていてとても有難かったです。
ガイドさんはとても気さくな方で、車内でおすすめの居酒屋など紹介していただき、最高な夜を過ごせました。

次は夏のカヌーも体験したいと思います。

As expected, it was cold in Hokkaido. However, they provided a knee blanket. The veteran guide was great, and the canoe tour was very enjoyable. We were able to see cute deer and impressive male deer with magnificent antlers.

さすが北海道寒かったです。でもひざ掛け用意してくれる。ベテランのガイドさんでカヌーツアーとても楽しかったです。可愛い鹿、かっこいい立派な角の雄鹿も見れました。

The tour itself was quite enjoyable. However, perhaps because we were with the full-day tour participants, we (the half-day tour group) had no transportation provided, and we struggled to find the meeting point. Despite being told to gather 10 minutes early, we ended up arriving late (with no apology), and on the way back, the guidance for the full-day tour participants took priority, leaving us in a bit of a neglected state... so the experience surrounding the tour was not very pleasant. I think it's a good idea to confirm whether you'll be with the full-day tour participants when making a reservation. Alternatively, if you go in with the mindset that this is how it is, you might not feel the same way. That said, the tour itself was wonderful, and I was satisfied.

ツアーそのものは、十分楽しめました。しかし、一日コースの人達と一緒だったせいかもしれませんが、私たち（半日コース）だけ送迎なし、待ち合わせ場所がわからず、自分たちで探し回った、早く着くので、10分前までに集合してほしいとの依頼連絡があったにも関わらず、若干遅刻（お詫びなし）、帰りは、一日ツアーの人達への案内が優先で、私たちは放置状態・・・などとツアーの前後は、あまり気分のいいものではありませんでした。予約される際は、一日コースの人達と一緒かどうかを、確認されたほうがいいかと思います。または、そんなものだと考えて参加されると、同じような思いはしないと思いました。繰り返しですが、ツアーそのものは、素晴らしく、満足できました。

I'm glad I was able to see the beautiful scenery. I thought there would be fewer attractions since it was the off-season, but the guide was very knowledgeable and taught us a lot, making it more enjoyable than I expected. Next time, I want to visit Shiretoko in the summer and take more time to explore!
