I participated in mid-September, and the views from the five lakes were breathtaking, overlooking Shiretoko Peninsula. I was able to encounter various plants and animals, and I was extremely satisfied! It became the best memory. The guide's explanations about the flora and fauna were easy to understand. Before joining the tour, I had zero knowledge about Shiretoko, but I feel that my understanding deepened throughout the day. It was my first time using binoculars, and the thorough briefing beforehand was very helpful. When I finally saw the wildlife, I was moved by their power! The photos taken by the guide were all beautiful, and I think it's because they know Shiretoko so well. When I visit Shiretoko again, I definitely want to join the same tour!

Paddling down the Chitose River flowing from Lake Shikotsu, the return course was gentle, and under the guidance of the instructor, I was amazed by the clear bottom and the non-decaying trees submerged beneath the water. It was a delightful time passing through the shade of the trees and navigating between them. It was a pity that there were some waves preventing us from reaching Lake Shikotsu, but I look forward to enjoying it again.

雨の心配もありカッパを着けてスタートしたが、お天気は次第に良くなり快適なカヤック体験となった。支笏湖から流れる千歳川を下り、折り返すコースは穏やかながら、インストラクターの指導もよろしく、大変透明な底に沈む腐食しない木々に驚きつつ、木陰くぐり、木のあいだ通過など楽しいひとときとなった。少し波があって支笏湖に出られなかったのは残念だったが、またの楽しみとしたい。

The weather was nice, and the views were always stunning. I was captivated by Rausu-dake, the Sea of Okhotsk, and the Sakhalin fir, feeling like I wanted to gaze at them forever, as if time wasn't enough. I didn't encounter many animals, but at the very end of the tour, I got to see the natural monument, the Black Woodpecker! Since we walked on paths without trails, I think it's important to wear clothing that covers your skin, as mentioned in the precautions. It became a wonderful memory.

天気が良かったこともあり、常に最高の景色でした。
羅臼岳やオホーツク海、トドマツに目を奪われて、時間が足りないくらいずーっと眺めていたいと感じました。
動物にはあまり会えなかったですが、ツアーの最後の最後に天然記念物のクマゲラに会えました！！
道なき道を歩いたりもするので、注意事項に書いてあった通り肌を出さない服装をしてくることが重要だと思います。

I participated in mid-August. The weather was cloudy with occasional rain, and there were some light showers. The temperature was around 16°C, which felt a bit chilly, but it was comfortable for me coming from Tokyo.

In the morning, I joined a group of nearly 10 people and we walked around the five lakes (participants who only joined for the morning disbanded here). In the afternoon, we went trekking in the primeval forest. There were no walking paths in the forest, and it was challenging to navigate the animal trails, but it was fun. I encountered wild Ezo deer several times. The leaves were starting to change color, and I thought it would be nice to visit again in a different season.

天気は曇り時々雨、たまに小雨の日でした。気温は16℃と少し肌寒さを感じる位でしたが、東京から来ていた自分にとっては快適でした。
午前中は10名弱のグループで五湖をぐるっと周り(午前中のみの参加者はここで解散)、午後は原生林をトレッキングしました。原生林は遊歩道はなく、獣道を進んでいくのが大変だけど楽しかった。野生のエゾシカに何度か遭遇しました。葉が色づき始めていて、また違う季節にも訪れてみたいなと思いました。

I think the quality of this type of tour really depends on the guide, and I believe that Miura, who attended us this time, is one of the best guides.

In the evening, we went to a restaurant bar called Piccadilly in Utoro, and that was also fantastic!

I will definitely visit again the next time I come to Utoro.

In the morning, we spent three hours at Shiretoko Five Lakes. Although it was a time when we could enter without a guide, having one made the experience enjoyable with explanations about the flora and fauna, as well as quizzes. For lunch, we chose a restaurant from the recommended places around the Utoro roadside station. In the afternoon, we went on a three-hour trekking adventure on a wild animal path. The guide stopped every few minutes to provide explanations, so we were able to walk comfortably without getting out of breath. Although it was a six-hour trek in total, including the time for explanations, I think it's a tour that anyone can enjoy, even if they're not very confident in their physical fitness. We also searched for mushrooms and took photos of deer and squirrels along the way, making it a fulfilling tour. It may be common knowledge, but I think it's a good idea to bring a portable toilet. Since it was early September, it wasn't cold, but I recommend wearing long sleeves and long pants because of the grass. I included photos that don't spoil the experience.

朝は3時間の知床五湖。ガイドさん不要でも入れる時期でしたが、ガイドさんがいることで動植物の説明やクイズなどがあり楽しく歩くことができました。昼食はウトロの道の駅周辺のおすすめ店から1店を選び各自食事。昼からは3時間の獣道トレッキングでした。数分間に1回ガイドさんが立ち止まり説明をしてくれるので、1回も息があがらず快適に歩けました。朝昼6時間トレッキングですが、説明の時間もあるので、体力に自信がなくても大丈夫なツアーだと思います。途中でキノコを探したり、鹿やリスなどの写真を撮ったり、充実のツアーでした。常識かもわかりませんが、携帯用トイレは持って行くべきだと思いました。9月初旬だったので寒くはなかったのですが、草が生えているので長袖長ズボンが良いと思います。写真はネタバレしないものを載せました。

On the day, due to strong winds and high waves, we only went on the river instead of the lake, but with the clear kayak, we could really feel the transparency up close. I felt refreshed being close to the wind, greenery, and water. The staff were also kind, and it was fun.

However, it was stated to be two hours, but with the explanation and moving around, we were actually on the kayak for about 40 to 45 minutes, which felt short for the price.

It was a refreshing experience that I would like to do again.

Although some areas were difficult to walk due to being unmaintained, I felt a closer connection to the forest and encountered beautiful views and many sights. Along the way, the guide shared various information about the creatures, plants, forest, and history of Shiretoko in a detailed manner, allowing me to learn many things I wouldn't have noticed if I had just wandered alone. I had a very enjoyable and fulfilling time. If I had more time, I would have loved to visit again. I plan to come back to Shiretoko.

午前中、知床五湖を訪れようとレクチャー後に入り口を入りましたが100メートルほどでガイドさんの無線機に熊が五湖で出たと言う情報が入りました。すぐに入り口に引き返し午後予定されていたトレッキングに急遽変更となり、午後知床5湖を訪れました。ガイドさんの説明は必要な分はありましたが欲を言うと、こちらから質問しなくても、もう少し詳しく勉強している方だからこそ知っている情報をもっといろいろ知りたかったです。トレッキングのコースは自分ではなかなか行けない場所もありとてもよかったです。次回参加するとすれば、安いツアーではないので口コミ評価のもっと高いガイドさんを選びたいと思ってしまいます。

The guide, Ayano, was indeed a veteran as mentioned in the reviews, and we had a fun time exploring. She taught us various things, including information about bears and deer, how to determine the age of plants, and that in case of getting lost, it's good to eat the leaves and fruits of thorny plants. The binoculars were fantastic; they were ready to use without needing to adjust the focus, and I was thrilled to see faraway sights clearly.

It seems that during the hot summer, bears tend to wander near the roads around Shiretoko Goko in the evening, so I thought I would drive there during that time on my next visit. On the way back, I was quite happy to see a mother bear and her cubs at the Iwaubetsu River, although unfortunately, they didn't catch any salmon. Thank you for pointing out the viewing spots from the top of the cliff.

熊や鹿の情報情報はもちろん、植物の年齢の見方や、遭難した時はトゲのある植物の葉っぱや実を食べると良いこと等様々なことを教えていただきました。
双眼鏡が素晴らしくピントを自分で調整しなくてもすぐ使え遠くがはっきりと見え感激しました。
熊さんは暑い夏は夕方知床五湖の近くの道路付近をうろうろしているらしく、次回行く時はその時間帯にドライブしてみようと思いました。
帰り道イワウベツ川に鮭を捕りに来た熊さん母子が見れてかなり嬉しかったです。残念ながら鮭は捕れませんでしたが。崖の上から見えるポイントを教えていただきありがとうございました。

I received a message the day before, and they picked me up at the hotel. The walking tour lasted three hours in the morning and three hours in the afternoon, and as it is called a walking tour, it was a leisurely stroll that children and older participants could join. We were blessed with good weather, and the guide provided detailed explanations, showcasing the wonderful scenery of Shiretoko and the animals we encountered by chance, making it a very fulfilling tour. The only disappointment was that we couldn't see any bears. I thought it would be nice to participate in a different season as well.

お昼はウトロまで戻り、ガイドさんがおすすめの店を紹介してくれます。ちなみに私は海鮮丼を食べました。

I was able to fully enjoy Shiretoko in just one day. I was moved to encounter wild deer and squirrels! The guide introduced various things at a good pace, and there was no wasted time, which was great. The guide was also very knowledgeable, and listening to them sparked my interest in plants, animals, and the terrain. The measures against brown bears were thorough, which made me feel safe.

Regarding COVID-19 measures, alcohol disinfection, mask-wearing, and avoiding crowded places were all properly implemented, allowing me to participate with peace of mind.

The weather wasn't very good this time, so I would like to see a sunny Shiretoko someday. Of course, I would like to book with Veltra!

Fortunately, it didn't rain, and although the sky was cloudy, the underwater view from the transparent SUP was blue, with beautiful aquatic plants in the river. I felt refreshed both physically and mentally! Next time, I want to paddleboard during a prettier season. I also enjoyed having lovely photos taken.

I was really looking forward to the Shiretoko Five Lakes tour, and it exceeded my expectations in terms of enjoyment. I wanted to enjoy the nature of Shiretoko, but I was scared of the brown bears, so I signed up for a walking tour. This was a great decision. Our guide, Mr. Umebayashi, is a veteran with 17 years of experience on this trail. He taught us about the signs of brown bears feeding, the traces of their hibernation nests, and various information about the animals and plants of Shiretoko that you would never notice just by walking normally. It was very refreshing and interesting to see how the scenery changes when you gain knowledge.

I saw Ezo deer up close twice, as well as a peregrine falcon and a white-tailed eagle. The day flew by in no time.

It was my first time in Shiretoko, and I really liked it. I want to visit again in a different season. It seems like it would be fun to see the scenery during the drift ice season.

知識を得ると歩いたときの見える景色が変わるのがとても新鮮で面白かったです。

Since it was an afternoon tour, I had heard that the chances of encountering animals were low, but surprisingly, I got to see an Ezo deer, a white-tailed eagle, and a red-crowned crane. I thought I was pressing the shutter on my camera, but I accidentally recorded a video, capturing the flying crane as a bonus. The guide shared various stories, and it was a very fulfilling experience to connect with nature.

　急遽一人参加になってしまいましたが、念願のカヌー体験をしました。一人乗りのカヤックではなかったですが、自分でも漕ぐことが出来ました。午後からのツアーだったので、動物に出会えるチャンスは少ないとお聞きしていましたが、なんと、エゾシカ、オジロワシ、タンチョウ鶴と出会えることが出来ました。カメラのシャッターを切ったつもりが、ビデオを押してしまい飛んでいる鶴を撮影出来たというおまけ付きでした。ガイドさんが色々お話してくださり、大自然と触れ合うことが出来てとても充実した体験でした。

I wanted to paddle a canoe in the Kushiro Wetlands. I wanted to paddle as much as possible by myself.

At first, that was all I thought about when I joined this tour.

However, what I actually experienced was the tranquility of the surroundings, with the occasional sound of birds, as I slowly paddled the canoe and encountered a pair of Japanese cranes with their chick. There were three of them: the pair and the chick.

Later, I spotted a pair of Steller's sea eagles perched in a tree ahead...

Honestly, encountering wildlife was an unexpected event, and I was continuously surprised.

According to our guide, whether you see animals depends on timing; it’s not just about being early in the morning, and you never know when you might see them.

The guide was very experienced, and they took measures against insects in the shuttle and canoe, allowing us to participate comfortably.

They also provided detailed explanations about the history of the wetlands and the habits of the animals.

As for my initial goal of paddling the canoe, although I was moving the paddle, I ended up taking photos with my smartphone, enjoying the scenery, and listening to the guide's stories, which made for a packed experience.

送迎車やカヌーにも防虫対策を
していただき、気持ちよく参加出来ました。

湿地の歴史や動物の習性の説明なども
詳しく説明してくださいました。

当初目的のカヌー漕ぎは、
パドルは動かしてはいるものの
スマホでの撮影や景色を観たり、
ガイドさんのお話を聞いたりと
盛りだくさんで
どこかへ行ってしまいました。

折角の素晴らしい湿地の環境を
カヌー漕ぎだけに使うのはもったいない
ですよね。

当日集合場所に、早めに到着しお手洗いなどを
済ませていたおかげで、早くスタート出来て
周りにカヌーがなかったことも
良かったのかもしれません。

素晴らしい釧路湿原の環境と動物達
それにベテランのガイドさんの
お気遣いに感謝の素晴らしい体験でした。

There were no other participants on the tour, so I had the Shiretoko Five Lakes exploration all to myself. This meant there was no crowding, and I was able to take my time with photography and leisurely explore the five lakes. Not only did we walk around the lakes, but I also learned about the importance of fallen trees and moss in nurturing Shiretoko's nature, as well as information about insects and plants, and the bears that eat them. I felt that everything in Shiretoko's nature is interconnected.

Before heading out on the tour, we received a lecture on how to deal with bears. Without this knowledge, you cannot participate in the tour. I learned that it is more important to know how to avoid encounters with bears than to know what to do if you see one. If we encounter a bear or are near one, we will follow the guide's instructions. Our guide was a knowledgeable veteran who communicated with the headquarters via radio, which was reassuring. The phrase "Leave everything to me" made me feel at ease.

However, we must remember that we are entering the bears' home in the great outdoors, so our belongings and preparations are crucial. As mentioned in the tour briefing, we should not bring any food to avoid attracting bears. Even sucking on candy is prohibited. Drinks should be tea or water, and sweet sports drinks are strictly forbidden due to bears' excellent sense of smell for food.

If you do bring a drink, it's recommended to use a thermos instead of a plastic bottle to avoid littering. (You can fill it with ice from the hotel’s ice machine to enjoy cold water.) Because we are in the great outdoors, there are no restrooms along the course. You won't be able to use the restroom for three hours, so make sure to go beforehand. It's also important to stay on the designated paths. The ground in Shiretoko is made of volcanic rocks, so there are rugged paths with rocky terrain and roots, so wear comfortable athletic shoes, sneakers, or trekking shoes. (I wore sneakers and had no issues.)

During the summer, there are many flies, and to avoid tick bites, I recommend wearing lightweight long sleeves and using insect repellent.

This experience not only allowed me to enjoy the scenery but also prompted me to think about how to protect Shiretoko's great nature. If you approach it with the mindset of learning rather than just sightseeing, I believe you will have a great time. It was a very meaningful, enjoyable, and beautiful tour.

他のツアー参加の方がおらず、私一人の知床五湖散策でした。なので、三密にもならず、写真撮影タイムもじっくりとっていただき、ゆっくり五湖をめぐることができました。湖をめぐるだけでなく、知床の自然を育むために大切な倒木や苔の話、昆虫や植物、それを食べる熊の生体と、丁寧に教えていただき、知床の自然は全てつながっているんだなと感じることが出来ました。
ツアーに出かける前に、レクチャー室で熊への対処法を教えていただきました。この熊への対処法を教わらないと、ツアーに行くことが出来ません。
熊に会ったらどうするかより、熊に合わないためにどうするかが大切だということを学びました。
熊に出会ったり近くにいる場合は、ガイドさんの指示に従います。知識を持ったベテランのガイドさんで、本部と無線で連絡を取りながら回りますので、心強いです「全て私に任せて下さい。」という言葉に安心しました。

しかし、相手は大自然。熊たちが住むお家にお邪魔する気持ちが大切で、持ち物や準備が重要です。
ツアー説明にもあるように、熊が寄ってこないように食べ物は一切持たないこと。飴をなめながらも厳禁です。飲み物はお茶か水。甘いスポーツドリンクは厳禁です。熊は食べ物に対する嗅覚が優れているためです。
持っていくならキャップを落としたりして自然を汚さないよう、ペットボトルではなく、水筒がお勧めです。（ホテルの製氷機の氷を入れて行くことで、冷たい水を飲むことも出来ますよ。）大自然故に、コースにトイレは一切ありません。3時間はトイレに行けませんので、事前に済ませましょう。遊歩道から外れないで歩くことも大切ですが、知床の大地は、火山から噴火した噴石で地面が出来ていて、ゴツゴツした岩の道、木の根っこで凸凹した道もあるため、歩きやすい運動靴やスニーカー、トレッキングシューズで行きましょう。（私はスニーカーで行きましたが問題なかったです。）
夏の時期はアブも沢山発生しますし、マダニに噛まれないようにするため、夏用の薄手の長袖、虫除けスプレーをしていったほうが良いと思います。

景色だけでなく、知床の大自然やこの大自然を守っていくためにどうしたらよいか考えるきっかけにもなりました。単なる観光ではなく、勉強しに行く気持ちで行くと、楽しめると思います。とても有意義な楽しく美しいツアーでした。

We participated as a family of four. It was our first time kayaking, but the staff provided thorough explanations, allowing us to have a great time. Thank you very much.
During the midsummer season, it was very cool, and we were able to fully enjoy the beautiful nature of Lake Shikotsu. I would like to participate again if the opportunity arises.

朝一番のツアーに参加しました。小鹿やオジロワシ、姿は見えませんでしたが丹頂鶴にも出会えました。
カヌーが多くなると、動物も警戒して出てこないそうなので、朝一番のツアーがお勧めです。

The weather I was worried about held up, and we started the canoe experience from Lake Tōrō. As we progressed through the Kushiro Wetlands while listening to the kind guide's explanations, we suddenly encountered a family of red-crowned cranes. It was incredibly moving. Along the way to Hosooka, we also saw a white-tailed eagle, a fawn, and a skunk. It was a valuable experience. Thank you for a wonderful day!

心配した天気も持ち、塘路湖からカヌー体験スタート。
親切なガイドさんの説明を聞きながら釧路湿原を進むといきなり、丹頂鶴
の親子に遭遇。大感激。その後も細岡までの間オジロワシ・小鹿・スカンクに遭遇。貴重な体験が出来ました。最高の一日をありがとうございました。
