For a group of four people aged 65 and older, we wanted to visit the Nikka Whisky Distillery and also drive around the Shakotan Peninsula. I thought it would be difficult to visit both places in one day on our own, so I chartered a taxi.
Our taxi driver, Mr. Ikuta, had a lot of experience and knowledge about sightseeing in Hokkaido. During the five-hour drive, he shared various stories with us, making for a very fulfilling time. He also chose the best spots for photos and took many pictures for us, resulting in wonderful memories captured in those photos.

I thought that 10,000 yen for 30 minutes was expensive, but I was convinced. Since it was in the evening, the temperature was still comfortable, but I imagined it must be really tough for the rickshaw pullers during the hot daytime. They explained the streets to us and were considerate of the uneven surfaces. It became a wonderful memory of my trip. Thank you very much.

Despite the worries about the weather, we had a wonderful trip enjoying the Shakotan Peninsula from Yoichi! We went well over our planned schedule and, indulging ourselves, stopped by Seicomart. I visited Otaru, Yoichi, and Cape Kamui. I wanted to go to the Yoichi Nikka Whisky and the Shakotan Peninsula, and I chose taxi sightseeing for its flexibility. At the Yoichi Nikka Whisky shop and Kakizaki Shoten, I was able to make some great purchases and was very satisfied. Cape Kamui was also sunny, with no strong winds, and the Shakotan Blue was truly breathtaking. The breeze was refreshing and pleasant. Mr. Ikuta was very calm and kind, with a wealth of knowledge and great storytelling skills! He took photos at various landmarks and even brought me to places not listed in guidebooks. Looking back on this trip to Hokkaido, it has become my best memory, and I truly feel that using Mr. Ikuta's taxi was a great decision. We wanted to go to the Shakotan Peninsula for our honeymoon, but since neither of us drives, we decided to book a guide, even though it was a bit pricey.
In the end, it was a great decision!
Ikuta was not only personable but also very knowledgeable! You could really feel his veteran skills!
He guided us to the places we wanted to visit with lots of interesting stories and took many photos for us! It was really helpful since it’s hard to take selfies just the two of us!
He also took us to delicious smoked food places, seafood, and sake shops! We were introduced to places that locals go to!! (The next day, we went to the restaurant recommended by Ikuta for lunch, and it was also exquisite!)
It was a packed day, and we were very satisfied! I’m so grateful that Ikuta will definitely come up in our wonderful memories from this trip.
I would love to book him again for our next trip to Hokkaido!

Normally, I would use a rental car, but I signed up for this tour because I was worried about driving on snowy roads. Fortunately, the weather was nice on the day of the tour, and it seemed like driving wouldn't be an issue, but taking a taxi was definitely more comfortable. Considering the unfamiliar roads and the need to look up stores while driving, the taxi was very convenient as it eliminated the need for prior research and any time loss on the day itself.
This time, we had a 4-hour course. Since we were scheduled to stay at the LOOP hotel in Yoichi, we toured Otaru before heading to the hotel. Both my friend and I had visited Otaru a few times, so we focused on shopping there. When moving from Otaru to Yoichi, we were taken to scenic spots along the coast.
The driver efficiently scheduled our requested and suggested sightseeing spots, allowing us to make the most of our time. He was very friendly, knowledgeable about local information, and our conversations in the car were enjoyable.
普段ならレンタカーを利用するのですが、雪道が心配だったためこのツアーを申し込みました。当日は幸いにも天気に恵まれ運転に支障は無さそうでしたが、やっぱりタクシーは楽。慣れない道やお店を調べながら走ることを考えると、事前の下調べも当日の時間ロスもないタクシーはとても快適で良かったです。
今回は4時間コース。余市のLOOPというホテルに滞在予定だったため、小樽から観光しながら余市へ向かいホテルに送っていただきました。
私も友人も小樽には数回訪れたことがあったので小樽では買い物を中心に。小樽から余市へ移動する際は、海沿いの景勝地に連れて行っていただきました。
運転手さんは、私たちのリクエスト＋ご提案いただいた観光地等をうまくスケジューリングしてくださり効率的に回れました。とても気さくな方で、地元情報もお詳しく、車内での会話も楽しかったです。

I was worried about whether the service would operate due to the typhoon, but I was glad that our reserved cruise was able to go ahead. It was also nice to check the operational status on the website.
We passed under bridges, saw seagulls and pigeons, and even got to see a rainbow.

I rode in a rickshaw in the rain, which had just turned from a typhoon to a tropical depression. When we left the hotel, it was cloudy, but as we were sightseeing, it started to rain little by little, and by the time we boarded the cruise ship, it was pouring. Even so, we set off wearing plastic raincoats. The rain was so heavy that I couldn't lift my face, and I couldn't see very well. Since it's Japan, I think there should be more consideration for the possibility of rain, like using covered boats. To be honest, the cruise itself was disappointing. There was only one straight canal, so the scenery was lacking in variety. Walking along the canal gave a better view, and I could enjoy the beautiful scenery more. I was honestly disappointed because I was expecting a tour like in Matsue, where the canals are spread throughout the town and you can circle around them. Although it wasn't that expensive, it wasn't worth the trouble to board.
ホテルを出るときは曇りでしたが、観光していると雨が少しづつ振り出し、クルーズの船に乗る頃にはドシャ降りに。それでもビニールのカッパをきて出発しました。雨が強くて顔を上げてらず、あまりよく見えなかったです。日本なんだから雨が降ることも前提にして、屋根付きの船にするとかもっと対応のしかたはあると思う。クルーズ自体は正直言って期待外れでした。運河はまっすぐに1本あるだけなので、景色の変化が乏しく、運河沿いを歩いていた方が目線が高い分だけ、きれいな景色を楽しめます。松江みたいに町中に運河が張り巡らされていて、それをぐるりと巡るようなツアーを期待していただけに正直言ってがっかり。そんなに高いお値段じゃないけど、わざわざ乗るほどでもなかった。

I chose a cruise just before sunset, so I was able to see the scenery illuminated by lights in the evening! I was lucky to take some great photos of the illuminated views.
However, there were a few parts where the voice of the female guide was a bit hard to hear from my seat at the front, which was a little disappointing.
