I walked through the empty, natural forest on snowshoes. Occasionally, I spotted birds or saw animal tracks in the snow and learned what kind of tracks they were. In this great outdoors, I encountered red foxes and deer while also learning about animal ecology. At Furepe Falls, a strong wind blew, drastically lowering the perceived temperature and allowing me to experience the harshness of winter in Shiretoko. After that, since I had no physical issues, I was guided to a place called "Men's Tears." The view of the Sea of Okhotsk and the steep coastline of the Shiretoko Peninsula from here was breathtaking. The staff provided detailed guidance, presenting materials at various points despite the cold, which made it easy to understand. In hindsight, I thought I could have dressed a bit warmer. Thank you very much.

誰もいない大自然の森の中をスノーシュでテクテク歩く。
時々鳥を見つけたり雪の中の動物の足跡を見て何の足跡か教わる。
そんな大自然の中でキタキツネや鹿と出会いながら動物の生態についても教わる。
フレペの滝では強烈な風が吹いていて一気に体感温度を下げ冬の知床の厳しさを体感した。
その後体力的に問題なかったので男の涙という所まで案内していただいた。
ここから見るオホーツク海と切立った知床半島の海岸線が絶景だった。
スタッフの方々は寒い中でも所々で資料を出しながら丁寧に案内してくれ分かりやすかった。
反省としてはもう少し着込んでもよかったかなぁ、と思いました。

I was able to see the Steller's sea eagle flying multiple times, which I had wanted to see. Since it was the season when they could only be seen from a distance, I couldn't capture them in photos, but I thought I would like to come back during the drift ice season to take pictures. Since it was an afternoon tour, I was also taken to a viewpoint for the stunning sunset, and I was very satisfied. Thank you very much.

The guide prepared a whiteboard for us, as we have hearing difficulties, and wrote explanations for us as needed. They took us around at our own pace, so we didn't get tired physically, and the two hours flew by. Also, since Shiretoko Five Lakes is known for sightings of brown bears, there was an incident the day before when a bear appeared and the walking path was closed, but it was reopened by the morning of our tour, and everything went smoothly. Overall, I highly recommend this tour! 😊

耳の不自由な私たちのためにガイドさんがホワイトボードを用意して下さり、説明を都度書いて案内して下さいました。私たちのペースに合わせてのんびり周ってくださったので、体力的にも疲れず、あっという間の2時間でした。また知床五湖はヒグマが出るということで、前日にヒグマが出没して遊歩道が閉鎖されるハプニングがありましたが、当日朝には開放されて無事にツアー催行されました。とにかくおススメのツアーです(^^)

It was a 3-hour course, but I enjoyed it so much that it felt like it ended in no time. I was able to learn a lot of things I had never known before by listening to the guide's stories. I even got to see bear footprints! I think this is something we wouldn't have noticed on our own. We were lent binoculars and rubber boots, which allowed us to comfortably explore Shiretoko Five Lakes. I enjoyed the untouched nature with all my senses and felt the grandeur of Hokkaido's natural beauty. It's a tour I would love to participate in again!

For my first visit to Shiretoko, I decided to go trekking at Shiretoko Five Lakes after reading reviews. We took our time exploring the 3-kilometer course over three hours. We only spotted deer from a distance and didn't see any brown bears, but our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and had interesting stories to share, making it a great experience for both the children and adults in our group. The guide was very well-informed about the ecology of brown bears, claw marks left on trees, insects, mushrooms, and the various creatures and plants found at Shiretoko Five Lakes, and they answered every question we had right away. I was amazed by the depth of their knowledge. The family we were grouped with was also very friendly, which made the experience even more enjoyable.

3キロのコースを、3時間かけてゆっくり散策します。鹿は遠目のみ、ヒグマも観察できませんでしたが、ガイドさんがとても知識が豊富でお話が面白く、小中学生の子供たちにも、大人にもとても良い体験が出来ました。ヒグマの生態や、木に残る爪痕、昆虫達、キノコなど知床五湖で見られる生き物や植物にとても詳しく、何を聞いても即座に答えてくださいます。その知識の深さに驚きました。一緒のグループになったご家族もとてもフレンドリーで、和気あいあいと楽しめたのもよかったです。

When exploring the Shiretoko Five Lakes, I debated whether to take the elevated path or go all the way around, but choosing the full loop was the right decision. Walking through the forest, I was able to take my time to see all five lakes and even encountered Ezo deer. Although I didn't see any brown bears, I was able to spot many signs of their presence, like claw marks.

There were many experiences that I couldn't have had on the elevated path.

知床五胡をめぐる際、高架のみか全周するか悩みましたが全周にして正解でした。
森の中を歩き五湖全てもゆっくり見て蝦夷シカにも遭遇、ヒグマはいなかったけど爪痕などの痕跡をたくさん見ることができました。

The exploration of the Shiretoko Five Lakes was amazing!! I learned the idea that "we humans are just a little intruders in the great nature where animals and plants are the main characters." We took three hours to walk the 3-kilometer trail, which allowed us plenty of time to take photos and listen to the guide's explanations, making for a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Seeing the footprints and claw marks of the brown bears was thrilling, and I felt both excited about the possibility of encountering one and eager to see them from a distance.

I was so comfortable and had so much fun that I wanted to walk more. There were many deer. We were blessed with good weather, and we could see Rausu-dake clearly, which was moving.

It was snowing and the wind was strong, but we had a great time ice fishing for wakasagi in our individual tents! We caught about ten wakasagi! We were also able to enjoy tempura and soup inside the tent, which made for a wonderful experience.

I was guided to a secret spot that was different from the usual due to the impact of COVID-19! The guide said, "I'm sorry it's far from the station," but I really appreciated the special feeling of going somewhere I wouldn't normally visit.

We started at 2 PM and it was minus 8 degrees; it was extremely cold for someone from a tropical country like me. I heard the morning session was minus 17 degrees... It would be impossible without a tent.

As for the crucial whitebait fishing, we were catching them non-stop that day, and everyone from kids to adults was easily reeling them in one after another! It was adorable when a child around elementary school age seriously said, "This is a hole where you can catch them infinitely..." The guide also interacted with us a lot, and I couldn't help but laugh at his excellent comments every time.

The tempura was crispy and delicious, and the warm soup was great too. While you can go to the fishing spot individually and borrow equipment, this tour, which provides everything you need, is overwhelmingly cost-effective.

You should definitely go whitebait fishing on a tour. I highly recommend it! Thank you, guide Umebayashi, for your help!

コロナの影響で普段とは違う秘密のスポットに案内して貰えました！
ガイドさんは「駅から遠くなって申し訳ない」と仰っていましたが、普段はなかなか行けない特別感が良かったです。
14時スタートでマイナス8度、
南国出身の私にはめちゃくちゃ寒かったですが
朝の部はマイナス17度だったそうで…
テント無しにはムリです…。
肝心のワカサギですが
この日は入れ食い状態で、子供から大人まで皆んな次から次へと簡単に釣れました！
小学生くらいの子が「無限に釣れる穴だ…」と真剣に言っていたのが可愛かった(笑)。
ガイドさんも色々と声をかけてくださるのですが、秀逸なコメントに毎回笑ってしまいました(笑)。
天ぷらもサクサクに揚げてくださり、暖かいスープまで美味しかったです。
個人で釣り場に行って道具を借りてやる事も出来ますが、ここまで至れり尽くせりしてもらえるツアーの方が費用対効果で考えても圧倒的に安いです。
ワカサギ釣りはツアーで行くべき。
本当にオススメです！

On the day of our reservation, it was reported that a brown bear appeared early in the course, and the tour ended in no time! Since we had some extra time, we were able to reschedule for the same tour the following morning.

The next day, in the refreshing morning right after the park opened, my friend, the guide, and I leisurely toured the five lakes. Our guide, Ayano, was very knowledgeable about animals, plants, flowers, and even the history of the five lakes tourism, making the explanations enjoyable and extremely interesting. We also looked at distant herons and deer through binoculars that were lent to us for free. I was particularly happy when I spotted a hazel grouse by sound and was praised for finding such a rare sight.

We were blessed with good weather, and the fun time flew by. I hope to have the opportunity to join the star tour, which I heard Ayano is particularly skilled at, next time.

予約した当日は、開始早々にコ－ス内にヒグマが現れたとのことで、あっという間に終了！時間に余裕のあった私達は、翌朝の同ツア－に振替えとなりました。
翌日は開園早々の清々しい午前中、友人と私そしてガイドさんの三人でゆっくり五湖を巡ることになりました。ガイドの綾野さんは動物、草木や花、はたまた五湖観光の歴史等知識が豊富で、説明が楽しく、非常に興味深かったです。また無料で貸していただいた双眼鏡から遠くのサギやシカを眺めました。とりわけ私が音で気が付き、何かを尋ねたエゾライチョウを見つけた時は貴重だとほめてもらい、嬉しかったです。
天候にも恵まれ、楽しい時間はあっという間に終わりました。次回は綾野さんが最も得意とお聞きした星のツア－に参加する機会があればと思います。

I think the quality of this type of tour really depends on the guide, and I believe that Miura, who attended us this time, is one of the best guides.

In the evening, we went to a restaurant bar called Piccadilly in Utoro, and that was also fantastic!

I will definitely visit again the next time I come to Utoro.

The guide, Ayano, was indeed a veteran as mentioned in the reviews, and we had a fun time exploring. She taught us various things, including information about bears and deer, how to determine the age of plants, and that in case of getting lost, it's good to eat the leaves and fruits of thorny plants. The binoculars were fantastic; they were ready to use without needing to adjust the focus, and I was thrilled to see faraway sights clearly.

It seems that during the hot summer, bears tend to wander near the roads around Shiretoko Goko in the evening, so I thought I would drive there during that time on my next visit. On the way back, I was quite happy to see a mother bear and her cubs at the Iwaubetsu River, although unfortunately, they didn't catch any salmon. Thank you for pointing out the viewing spots from the top of the cliff.

ガイドの綾野さんは口コミ通りベテランで楽しく散策できました。
熊や鹿の情報情報はもちろん、植物の年齢の見方や、遭難した時はトゲのある植物の葉っぱや実を食べると良いこと等様々なことを教えていただきました。
双眼鏡が素晴らしくピントを自分で調整しなくてもすぐ使え遠くがはっきりと見え感激しました。
熊さんは暑い夏は夕方知床五湖の近くの道路付近をうろうろしているらしく、次回行く時はその時間帯にドライブしてみようと思いました。
帰り道イワウベツ川に鮭を捕りに来た熊さん母子が見れてかなり嬉しかったです。残念ながら鮭は捕れませんでしたが。崖の上から見えるポイントを教えていただきありがとうございました。

I am truly grateful for her assistance. It was a good decision to request rubber boots in anticipation of the rain. Thanks to that, even when it started to rain during the walk, I was able to walk steadily without slipping. There were fallen trees throughout the area to preserve nature, and I learned that these fallen trees play an important role in the natural cycle, awakening my awareness of the forest's vitality. This is a place that you might pass by without noticing, so I highly recommend taking a guided tour. The weather affected the scenery, so I rated it as "good," but the content was undoubtedly "excellent!" Thank you very much.

当日大雨で知床五湖への道が通行止めになってツアーが変更になったり、その後開通してまた当初のツアーに戻ったり、アクシデント続きでしたが、その都度柔軟に対応してくださり、ガイドの綾野さんには感謝しかありません。雨を予想して長靴をリクエストしておいて正解でした。おかげさまで途中で雨が降ってきても滑らず順調に歩けました。自然のままに保存するためあちこちに倒木がありましたが、倒木にも自然のサイクルの中で重要な役割があることを教えていただき、森の生命力の強さに目が覚めた思いでした。知らなければ通り過ぎてしまうところでしたが、ここは是非ガイド付きのツアーをお勧めします。天候に左右されて景色はいまいちだったので評価は「よかった」ですが、内容は文句なく「最高！」です。ありがとうございました。
