At our first destination, Choshikei Monkey Park, I was able to see the making of the winter specialty "monkey dumplings" for the first time. It was my first visit to Shodoshima, and I enjoyed a satisfying sightseeing course that included Kankakei, the Twenty-Four Eyes Movie Village, and Olive Park. I also thought I would like to visit Kankakei in the spring when the mountain cherry blossoms are in full bloom and in the autumn for the fall colors.

This was my first time visiting Shodoshima, and I chose this efficient and convenient tour right away. The round-trip ferry from Takamatsu allowed me to have dinner in Takamatsu city before my flight from Takamatsu Airport after 8 PM.

As for the tour, it seemed that arrangements were made to have single seats for solo travelers, but on that day, it was a weekday and during the autumn foliage season, so the bus was full with 40 people, and the average age seemed relatively high. Nevertheless, everyone was punctual, and the tour proceeded on time under the guidance of an experienced guide and a friendly driver.

I wasn't particularly interested in the Monkey Kingdom at Choshikei, but I enjoyed feeding the monkeys.

Kankakei was crowded with school trip students and other tourists, and it took a while for the light snacks to be served, so I thought it might have been better to bring something along. The ropeway was also packed, but I enjoyed the scenery during the autumn foliage season.

There was just enough time to buy some souvenirs, and even as a solo traveler, the tour was efficient and packed with content, making it feel like it went by in a flash.

程よくお土産を買う時間もあり、一人旅でも効率よく、内容も盛りだくさんであっという間でした。

余裕があれば終了後にエンジェルロードまで行こうかと考えていましたが、帰りの道中で車窓から見ることもできたため、15:30過ぎのフェリーで高松まで戻り、最後の高松での食事をゆっくり楽しみました。

The weather was wonderful, and both the sea and the island were incredibly beautiful on Marine Day. Thank you for efficiently guiding us to places that are hard to visit otherwise. Personally, I enjoyed the movie village the most. The Seto Inland Sea was very beautiful. It felt like I was time-traveling as I got to see the movie sets. I understand that there are time constraints on a tour, but I wish we could have spent a little more time at the movie village. The guide's singing was excellent, and I appreciated the little gift as well.

I was able to visit all the tourist spots I wanted to see in Shodoshima! It was a very efficient tour, and there was plenty of time at each location! It was a bit disappointing that the lunch at Kankakei was limited to fast food due to COVID-19, but it wasn't a problem since I had a hearty breakfast before joining the tour. Some admission tickets needed to be purchased individually, so it would be great if those could be included in the plan to save us the hassle of buying them. However, right now, there are great deals for admission tickets to the movie village that can be purchased with a soft serve ice cream set using the GO TO coupons, so I recommend that for those going with GO TO.

Shodoshima is a beautiful place to spend a relaxing weekend. They have a great bus system and you can get 1 or 2 day passes. However, the buses are not super frequent and it is time consuming to see some great sites that are not in the main area of the Island. This is where the tour comes in. They hit the major highlights all in a day and do the driving and organizing for you! They time the tour perfectly with the arrival of the ferry. Check-in and board the bus and off you go! Start with the monkey park. You can feed the monkeys (thankfully you are protected inside a fenced area as they can get aggressive). You then have a few minutes just to wander around and take pictures. There is also a show with a monkey doing tricks. From there you go to the ropeway. There is a restaurant that uses the ticket machine, making the process very fast and easy. There is also a snack area. You can just stay there and take in the beauty of the gorge or take the ropeway down. The bus will meet you at the bottom. Perfect! You then get a quick few minutes to see a temple built into the rocks and then down to the area where some famous Japanese movie was filmed (think was called 24 eyes). No idea what the movie was about but they turned the site into a cute little shopping village. You can also try soy sauce soft serve. I skipped, but people seemed to be happy with it. Quick stop in the area they make soy sauce. Was a bit surprised we stopped at a shop and not where the museum is located. The final stop is the Olive Garden. Here you can see the olive trees (the first on the Island), do some trick photography, a little shopping, and olive ice cream. Overall,I enjoyed tour. Not too long at any site, both the driver and the guide were professional and great. My only criticism (and this is for every tour I've been on), I wish the guide didn't feel a need to talk the entire time. Let us enjoy the sites on the bus. It is ok to have silence once in while.

This was my first visit to Shodoshima. I was unsure whether to rent a car to explore the history, shrines, and traditional culture, but I learned about this island tour bus and decided to use it.

I was able to efficiently visit places like Choshikei Monkey Park, Ohnote Hime Shrine, Kankakei, Azuki Island Shrine, Shodoshima Sacred Site No. 20, Butsuga Falls, Takesan Soy Sauce, the Village of Soy Sauce, the Twenty-Four Eyes Film Village, Doten Shrine, the Tsuboi Sakae Memorial Museum, Olive Park, and Kojin Shrine all in one day, making for a truly fulfilling sightseeing experience.

In addition to these sites, the bus guide kindly provided information about Shodoshima's culture and scenery from the bus window, but I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't see Angel Road and the landscape of Nakayama's terraced rice fields, which also appear in "The Eighth Day's Cicada." The bus guide was very kind, and the recitation of "Twenty-Four Eyes" was wonderful.

これら以外にもバスガイドさんが車窓から小豆島の文化や街並みを案内して下さいましたが、エンジェルロードと、「八日目の蝉」にも出てくる中山の棚田 千枚田の風景を見れなかったのは少し残念でした。
バスガイドさんにもとても親切にしていただき、「二十四の瞳」の暗誦朗読も素晴らしかったです。

Shodoshima is inconvenient without a car. I was able to circle the wide island, and I was dropped off near Angel Road, which allowed me to enjoy sightseeing without wasting time. I was happy to find out that the souvenirs included somen, tsukudani, and olive cream.

If possible, I would like to include a stop for sightseeing (photo opportunity) as we pass in front of Angel Road.

I signed up for this bus tour as a paper driver. It was very efficient as we were able to visit various sightseeing spots on the island, and we also received souvenirs. Having a guide was a great benefit as well.

The roads leading to places like Kankakei and the Twenty-Four Eyes Movie Village were often narrow, and I don't think I would have been able to reach them by driving myself, so I’m glad I used this service.

I think it would be even more convenient if we could purchase tickets for places like the Monkey Park at the time of booking.
