Kagoshima
Our driver was prompt in meeting us at the port for our shore excursion with friends. His English wasn't great, but he was very adept at using google translate to narrate what we were passing by and where we were going. We had great communication ahead of time with the company to indicate where we wanted to go and he got us to the Kamikaze museum, (we spent about an hour) and to the samurai gardens, even showing the way and where to pay (if you don't know that you may enter at the wrong end of the street.) He picked us up at the end, which saved us a long walk back up the pedestrian street.
We liked our itinerary because it got us inland and showed us the beautiful green hills of that part of Japan. We returned to the ship with plenty of time. If you know what you want to see (we compared itineraries with the ship's shore excursion) and can share a car this is a very cost-effective way to see a port stop.
This is a driver and vehicle-not an accompanied tour. Make sure you have Google translate.
The taxi driver, Mr Sugimoto-san was really helpful and drove really carefully. He took me everywhere I wanted to go and was very polite. I 100% recommend his services ! :-)
Also the cost for this experience was very reasonable.
If you want to do some sight seeing on your own at your own pace, book this experience!
