Cute place! Off the beaten path Of the city center and the Gion/pontocho district so you definitely need to take public transit. We asked to check in earlier than 4pm or store our bags but that wasn’t an option sadly. Thank you! Close to enmachi station that can get you to
Kyoto station easily especially
If you have JR PASS.

A MUST when visiting Kyoto!

Reviewed by: Allewich , 2018/04/07

This was the highlight of my trip to Kyoto. A great way to experience one of the temples.

I walked into a lovely room with Hot green tea and my yukata robe waiting for me. There was a little Kitchenet and a small tv as well. I was given a short tour of the place, where I was shown the shower room/steam bath, and bathrooms. They provided shampoo and a toothbrush as well.

In the morning I woke up early to attend the prayer service which was absolutely worth doing - it was wonderful to learn and experience.

This was followed by a Japanese FEAST! Wow. What a meal. Everyone should opt for this breakfast! They were so kind and remade my entire breakfast when they found out I was gluten intolerant - which is hard to do for most Japanese dishes. I am incredibly appreciative.

The stay also comes with a ticket to see the grounds and gardens! Absolutely beautiful.

Loved my entire experience and would recommend it to anyone!

Wonderful stay - would do again

Dinner and breakfast were amazing. The staff is courteous and kind. The onsen, lovely. The ceremony, moving. Being able to walk around the grounds after the ceremony, listening to chanting in solitude and peace was an experience I will always cherish. Special moments, indeed. So happy and feel blessed to have had the opportunity to stay here.

Pretty temple and prayer service. Would have appreciated some explanation

Reviewed by: Liza, 2017/06/19

We did not receive any explanation about the morning service or a tour at the temple complex or anything, so it felt more like a hotel where we could attend the morning prayer service than staying at a temple. Breakfast was very good.

The morning ceremony was great but the accommodation was a little disappointing

Reviewed by: Japan2017, 2017/04/26

We really enjoyed the morning ceremony which was an unforgettable experience. We also really liked visiting the Goten in the temple grounds. Our room was clean and tidy but our "view" was of 3 tanks that appeared to be septic tanks and we were next to a busy road. When we went out for dinner we walked past 2 people who appeared to be monks who were smoking. A couple of towels would have been appreciated too as we didn't have any room in our suitcases to bring them with us so we had to go without a shower for the night we stayed at the temple. Check in after 4pm and check out at 9am made the stay feel rushed. Overall, I would recommend it but would like further guests to know in advance what it is like.

i booked this for three of my ladies. As a tour guide I am always worried about experiences out of my control. I need not have worried the reviews I received were excellent. Good food, excellent accommodation and a sublime morning service.

not roughing it at all

We expected to be sharing pretty basic facilities here. Boy were we wrong! The two of us had a huge room big enough for at least six people to sleep in. There are very nice Japanese bathing facilities for both men and women; a large TV and WiFi in the lounge plus a small TV and WiFi in our room. There are not many near-by restaurants for dinner . . . The facility can hold up to 60 people and is used often for school groups. The night we stayed there were about 20 adult visitors. The morning prayer service was interesting, about what we expect; followed by a nice Japanese style breakfast. This was probably the best room and breakfast combo we had in our entire three weeks in Japan; plus the temple prayer and uncrowded grounds in the early morning.

Great relaxing stay

Excellent place to stay for a night, big tatami room and a very nice bath in the basement. Early morning prayer ceremoni felt very authentic, especially considering the surroundings. Definately worth a visit.

Ninnaji Temple is an unexpected treasure especially at cherry blossom time! Our room was spacious and comfortable, the palace and gardens an artist's delight, and the prayer service completed the experience. We highly recommend this unique stay in Kyoto.
