Since I arrived early to the appointment, the instructor started the lesson earlier with little preparation needed which was very much appreciated.

The lesson itself was great. Even though English was harder for her, she still communicated well how to play the instrument by demonstrating and giving verbal explanation, which helped me learn quickly. Since I had learned the song she had prepared for the lesson, she was flexible and had two other songs that I could play and I had a great time learning and playing the instrument.

She also gave me small sweets and took the time to talk to me after the lesson. She took the time to accommodate beyond what I had expected from the lesson, and I highly recommend her to anyone looking to learn.

I was torn between the light-up at Toji Temple and this one, but choosing this was definitely the right decision. The light-up in the mystical tranquility, along with the concert featuring the koto and flute, was wonderful. The performance in front of the beautiful garden was truly moving. The sound of the koto was incredibly beautiful, and I was captivated by the charm of this instrument that Japan should be proud of. The light-up in the garden, with the reflections of the maple leaves in the large pond, was enchanting. It was really great! ♡♡

I visited for the first time.
I don't think it was a busy time, but I was able to enter early and receive various explanations, which was very nice.
There was a live shamisen performance, and it was neither too long nor too short, so I enjoyed it at a good pace. Above all, the temple staff were very kind; they prepared chairs for my parents, who have difficulty walking, and offered us assistance, which I really appreciated. The garden was also enchanting and beautiful.

混雑する時期ではなかったと思いますが、早めに入れて色々と説明を聞くことも出来、とても良かったです。
三味線の生演奏がありましたが、長過ぎず、短すぎず、良い時間配分で楽しめました。なにより，お寺の方が皆親切で、足の悪い両親のために椅子を用意して下さったり、声をかけて下さったり、有り難かったです。お庭も幻想的で素敵でした。

Terrific lesson

I really enjoyed this drumming lesson. The teacher was friendly and encouraging. His instruction was clear and I could ask questions if I was confused. I had fun and got a workout. I am in my 60s, but am healthy and fairly fit. So as long as you are in reasonable shape, you can do this. You have to be able to stand with your legs bent and beat a drum with a fair amount of force for an hour. It is a lot of fun. I felt energized and happy afterwards.

One of my favorite memories of Kyoto. The music was so good it made me cry.

I went to the late afternoon performance, and it was like having our own private concert, it was amazing! The musicians played with lots of energy and all of their hearts. They were very talented, and the music was so good it made me emotional.

They played traditional instruments like the shamisen. They sang traditional Okinawan music as well as music from famous Japanese films.

There was audience participation where a couple boys got to go up on stage and plays drums with the musicians.

If you like music at all, you will like this performance.

It was great to enter earlier than the general reception and listen to the explanations about the temple and the garden from the gardener. It was very different from just sightseeing. They also recommended great spots for taking photos, and I was able to take beautiful pictures, which made me very satisfied!

It was great to be able to enter areas that are usually off-limits and to listen to explanations. Since we heard from the gardener about the illuminated garden, it was nice to know how to appreciate it. The autumn leaves were at just the right time and very beautiful. It was fun to search for the hidden turtles.

普段は入れないところも入れて説明もききながらだったので色々聞けてよかったです。ライトアップされた庭も庭師の方の説明を聞いてからだったのでどんな感じでみたらいいのか分かり良かったです。紅葉もちょうどいい時期でとてもきれいでした。かくれ亀さん達を探すのが楽しかったです。
