Mie is located on Honshu, and is known for its dramatic rugged coast, most of which is part of Ise Shima National Park. Other natural spots of note are Uga Valley, Doro Valley, and the Akame Shijuhattaki Falls. Home to Ise Jingu Shrine, which enshrines the sun goddess Amaterasu Omikami, millions of visitors flock to this powerful shine every year. Renowned for cultured pearls, oysters and Ise lobsters, it is still possible to see traditional female divers (ama) in the Toba and Shima area.
