Our day (08:00) started with the Blue Cave snorkeling. (Wetsuits are provided and required for this portion of the tour.) We walked to the port and boarded the boat for the 10 minute ride to the Blue Cave. Once anchore... mored, you jump off the boat and swim over to the cave, the water was pretty choppy outside the cave, but once inside, it was quite calm. (No need to worry if you aren't a strong swimmer, the guide has a big float with him at all times) At the moment the only way to visit the Blue Cave is by boat tour, so we pretty much had it to ourselves early in the morning. It was spectacular, like swimming in an aquarium! I brought our underwater camera, but you can also rent one, just make sure to bring an SD card. Our tour guide used our camera to take plenty of pictures of us. When we left the cave we had time to swim around and look at all the coral and sealife before boarding the boat for our return trip.
When we returned to the port, we walked back to the shop, took off the wetsuits and waited about 5 minutes before walking over to a different side of the port.
We took a boat over near the Renaissance Hotel, about 5 minutes away, for the marine walking portion of the tour. This is a really unique experience! We were given approx 20 minutes of underwater walking time and our guide was with us the whole time, again taking lots of pictures and pointing out the sealife. The helmet is heavy, but doesn't feel like it underwater. They set the helmet on your shoulders once you're on the ladder mostly submerged, then you slowly climb down to the sea floor about 10 ft down and begin walking around. It's super easy to do, no swimming skills needed.
This is a don't miss tour while visiting Okinawa! We had a blast and made lots of great memories!
