In August 2015, a massive typhoon hit Ishigaki Island. The forecast indicated it would arrive over the weekend, so we originally planned our tour for Thursday. However, we received a call on Tuesday informing us that Wednesday's tour would definitely proceed, but Thursday was uncertain. We decided to move our plans up by a day and went on the tour.

To put it simply, this three-island tour was very efficient. The mangroves of Iriomote Island, the water buffalo cart to Yubu Island, and the star sand beach of Taketomi Island were all wonderful experiences. I’ve attached some photos. Each location made for great memories. If I had to mention something, since we had a 4-year-old with us, we chose the water buffalo cart on Taketomi Island, but I thought that when our child is a bit older, cycling might be a nice option as well. Thank you for the great tour! I will definitely return to Ishigaki Island!

P.S. Thanks to the local people's wisdom in preparing for this record-breaking typhoon by holding back ship departures and securing outdoor potted plants, I felt that human damage was minimized.

2015年8月、石垣島に巨大な台風がやってきました。週末に来るぞ～という予報で、元々木曜日にこちらのツアーを予定しておりましたが、火曜日にお電話をいただき、水曜は確実に催行するが木曜はわからない、とのこと。一日早めていただき、行ってまいりました。
一言で言いますと、この3島めぐり、とても効率がいいですね。

どれもとてもよい記念になりました。あえて言えば、竹富島での選択は、うちは4歳児がいたので水牛車という選択でしたが、もう少し大きくなってからであれば、サイクリングなどもいいかな、と思いました。よいツアーを有難うございました。また石垣島、行きます！
p.s.観測史上最大となった今回の台風に備えて、船の出港を控えたり、屋外の植木鉢を倒して縛ったりしていた現地の皆さんの知恵のおかげで、人的被害は最小限に食い止められていたと感じました。合掌。

My first time in Ishigaki Island! I joined the tour thinking it would be a trip around the Yaeyama Islands, but due to poor timing, it seems the tour plan from the travel company was combined with this company's tour, resulting in us traveling with dozens of other tourists! Because of this, the ferry from Ishigaki Island to Iriomote Island was extremely crowded! There were no empty seats in sight! Since it was open seating, we boarded early and managed to sit together, but those who boarded later ended up sitting scattered throughout the boat! Furthermore, the mangrove cruise, which is one of the main attractions, was obviously fully booked! We anticipated this and went straight to the cruise boat without even stopping for a restroom break! As expected, it was also open seating, so we were able to sit together, but about one-third of the people couldn't sit together, and those who boarded last were completely scattered! It was disappointing to be on vacation and have no consideration for seating arrangements, sitting quietly for an hour on the cruise! To make matters worse, we were supposed to go all the way upstream to see a very large and surprising "tree," but due to low tide, there wasn't enough water, and the river wasn't deep enough for the cruise boat to reach the upper stream, so we had to turn back halfway! I was told that what we saw along the river was just a small thing.

Up until this point, it wasn't a pleasant experience, but the water buffalo cart ride to Yubu Island was very soothing and enjoyable, and the singing along to the sanshin during the ride was lively! Additionally, on Taketomi Island, we rented bicycles, and there were many sights to see, such as the star sand and the village. A casual stop at a shaved ice shop offered a fluffy texture I had never experienced before, which was fantastic! In the end, we returned to Ishigaki Island on the last ferry! (Probably) I think choosing to rent a bicycle is great because you can select your own ferry. Looking back, it turned out to be a good trip!

初めての石垣島！この日は八重山諸島めぐりと思い参加しましたが、タイミングが悪く、旅行会社のツアープランが、この会社のツアーに組み込まれているらしく、何十人ものツアー客と同行！このため、石垣島→西表島のフェリーは超満員！見た感じ空いている席はなし！自由席なので、早めに乗船した我々は並んで着席できましたが、後半に乗船した人達は前後などにバラバラに着席！さらにメインの１つともいえるマングローブクルーズも当然満席！我々はそうなるだろうとトイレも行かずにクルーズ船へ一直線！やはりこちらも自由席のため、我々は並んで座れましたが、３分の１の方達は並んで座れず、最後の方は完全にバラバラに座っていました！せっかく旅行に来たのに、何の配慮もなく、１時間のクルーズをおとなしく座っていました！さらにタイミング悪く、本来最上流まで行き、とても大きく驚くほどの「木」が見れるらしいのですが、この時干潮が大きいと表現するのでしょうか、水がなく、川の深さが足りずクルーズ船が最上流まで行けず、途中でUターン！写真はその川沿いにある小さい物と教えていただきました。
ここまでは気分のいいものではありませんでしたが、由布島への水牛車はとても癒されるいいものでした、移動中の三線に合わせる歌も盛り上がりました！さらに竹富島ではレンタル自転車でしたが、星の砂、集落などの見所は多く、何気に寄ったカキ氷屋さんは、今まで食べた事のないフアフア食感で最高でした！結局石垣島に帰ったのは最終便でした！（たぶん）レンタル自転車を選択すると、自分で船を選択できるのでいいと思います、終わってみればいい旅！でした。

The shuttle service was helpful as the hotel was far from the remote island terminal. The bus tour guide in the morning was a veteran male, and he shared stories not found in guidebooks, along with performances of the sanshin and songs, which made it feel like a great deal. However, the weather was unstable right after the typhoon, and the highlight, Kabira Bay, was not as impressive due to tidal conditions. It started to rain around Tamatorizaki Observatory, and it would have been better if there were umbrellas available on the bus. Lunch at Aunt Poza's table was already prepared upon arrival, and it was a very ordinary set meal; perhaps the longer time was for souvenir shopping? In the afternoon, we went to Taketomi Island, and the water buffalo cart from Nitta Kanko and the old man's sanshin performance were great. It was also nice that several boat departure times were set.

送迎はホテルが離島ターミナルからはなれていたため助かりました。午前中バスツアーのガイドさんもベテランの男性で、ガイドブックに載っていない話、三線の演奏、歌などもありお得感満載でした。ただ、台風直後で天気も安定せず、一番のお楽しみの川平湾も今一つ、潮の関係もあるとのことでした。玉取崎公演あたりでは雨が降り始め、バス内に傘の用意などあればなおよいとおもいました。ポーザおばさんの食卓での昼食は、到着時にもう用意されていてこれはごく普通の定食、時間が多めなのはお土産購入用？午後は竹富島だったが、新田観光さんの水牛車とおじいさんの三線はよかった。そのあとの船の時間がいくつか設定されているのはよかった。

It was very hot and humid, as it was just three days after a large typhoon, but the weather was clear with almost no clouds. It was too hot for cycling, but the color of the sea changed into various shades of blue under the sunlight, and it was incredibly beautiful. I have used rental bicycles many times in the past, but at this time, the rental shop (Maruhachi) provided a unique map that was very helpful for sightseeing around the island. I was able to relax in Iriomote and Yufu, but I wanted to explore Taketomi Island at a more leisurely pace. Next time, I would like to spend a whole day on Taketomi Island, cycling around the beautiful beaches and houses. The glass boat ride I took on Taketomi Island was not that great. However, the highlight was riding the water buffalo cart. I was soothed by the slow-moving water buffalo cart and the songs of the old man.

I think it's a course that is difficult to cover in just one day on your own. However, I personally felt that the time spent on Yubu Island was too long, so I would have liked to take it slower in Taketomi instead.

When taking the ferry from Ishigaki Port to Taketomi Island, I ended up sitting in a place without air conditioning, and I was on the verge of feeling unwell. However, once we arrived at Taketomi Island, we were able to enjoy a cool bus tour, which was great.

We found star sand on Hoshizuna Beach, and even the elderly family members were excited. We waited for over 30 minutes to ride the water buffalo, and we also had to wait about an hour for the return bus, so there was a lot of waiting time.

Since there wasn't a good bus schedule from Ishigaki Port to the hotel, we used a taxi. The main water buffalo tour on Taketomi Island was indeed enjoyable. I'm glad we went because my family was happy.

石垣港から船で竹富島に渡るとき冷房の効いてない場所に座ってしまった為、具合が悪くなる寸前でした。が、竹富島に着いてすぐ涼しいバスで観光でしたので良かったです。
星砂浜で星砂を見つけたり高齢の家族もはしゃいでいました。
水牛に乗るまでに30分以上待ち、
帰りのバスも1時間位待ったので待ち時間が多かったです。
石垣港からホテルへのバスも良い時間がなかったのでタクシーを利用しました。
竹富島のメインの水牛観光はやはり楽しかったです。家族が喜んでくれたので行って良かったです。

I participated while pregnant, but the glass-bottom boat, water buffalo, and bus tour were all completely fine. If there are any pregnant women considering this, I highly recommend it, as the activities available on Ishigaki Island are limited.

ただ、乗りたかった船の便が別の会社のものだったそうで、一時間弱待たないといけなかったのが残念でした。

I chose the three-island tour thinking my elementary school-aged children would enjoy it, and they were thrilled without getting bored thanks to the smooth flow of the tour. If I had to say something, the mangroves had a similar scenery, which seemed to bore them a bit in the second half, but they were very happy with the water buffalo and collecting star sand. I felt that lunch was a bit simple. Since the children had the same menu, I think they would have been happier if there were options like a children's lunch. On Taketomi Island, we only saw Kondoi Beach from the bus, so I wanted to go into the sea, but I was satisfied with the combination since I also booked the Phantom Island for the next day and got to enjoy the sea then. When we departed from Ishigaki Island, we arrived at the ferry terminal too early, but thanks to being able to board an earlier boat (departing at 8:40), we were able to enjoy sightseeing at a leisurely pace. A bus was waiting at the port, and we arrived at the water buffalo cart boarding area in about five minutes. I was impressed by the intelligence of the water buffalo. I was amazed by how the boatman controlled their speed and maneuvered considering the turning radius. After that, we rented bicycles and first climbed the Nago-mi Tower, which seemed like it would get crowded, and then headed to Nishi Sanchō. After enjoying the picturesque beautiful sea, we had an early lunch to avoid the crowds. Since it gets hot during the day, I think it's best to act early. We returned to Ishigaki Island around 13:30, and we were able to fully enjoy our time.

石垣島から出発時、離島ターミナルに早く着きすぎましたが、一本早い船に乗船できたおかげ(8:40発)でゆっくり観光が出来ました。すぐ港にバスが待機しており、5分ほどで水牛車乗り場に到着しました。感動したのは水牛の賢さ。船頭さんの声かけでスピード、内輪差を考えてのコントロール等にびっくり。そのあとレンタル自転車を借りて、まずは混雑しそうななごみの塔に登り、街並みを眺めながら西桟橋へ。絵に描いたような美しい海を眺めた後、混雑を考慮して早めのランチ。日中は暑くなるので、とにかく早めの行動がいいと思います。13:30位に石垣島へ戻りましたが、充分堪能できました。

It's something you can't see often in Japan, so I thought it was great. However, at that time, my eldest son said, "It's not interesting just looking at trees." That's true for kids...

After that, we took a water buffalo cart to Yufu Island for lunch, then returned to Iriomote Island and headed to Taketomi Island. On Taketomi Island, we visited a beach with star sand. The kids were thrilled and collected sand.

Afterward, we returned to the port for the glass-bottom boat. Although it was a short time, the boat rocked quite a bit, so some people might need to take measures against seasickness.

以上がツアーの流れになりますが、添乗員はいません。複数の観光会社が共同で催行しており、その場所場所で係員にツアー番号で呼ばれます。また、部分的に大手旅行会社の団体と一緒に行動することになります。
この中で一番問題となったのは、自由時間が殆どないため、次男のおむつを替えるタイミングがなかったことです。
このエリアの見どころを纏めて回りたい方にはお勧めです、子供連れで参加する場合、小さい子程負担若しくは退屈することになるかもしれません。

Cycling in the early summer weather was incredibly refreshing! Since I don't usually ride a bike, just being on one felt new and enjoyable. With free time, I was able to spend my day freely. I was a bit concerned about the tour voucher being hard to read and the bike brakes being a bit weak, but overall, I was very satisfied with my experience on Taketomi Island.

Since the participants of these tours join in unison, the water buffalo carts are packed so tightly that you can barely move your shoulders. I wish I could have enjoyed the sightseeing with a bit more space. While it was efficient, I wonder if it's worth it to see three islands in one day like an assembly line. The scenery and atmosphere were nice, so I would like to visit again at a more leisurely pace next time.
