We participated as a couple with our middle school child. I thought it would be a light walk, but it turned out to be quite a challenging mountain trail. Since there are steep slopes, I recommend joining with a backpack or going hands-free. It's better to keep both hands free. The humidity was intense, creating a truly jungle-like atmosphere. We were able to see natural monuments like hermit crabs and coconut crabs. The starry sky viewed from the sandy beach was also absolutely wonderful, and I'm really glad we participated. In mid-June, when the rainy season had ended early, my wife and I participated in the tour. After gathering at the remote island terminal, we took a bus with other tour participants to the jungle. During the bus ride there and back, the guide provided us with valuable information about recommended spots and shops in Ishigaki Island.

Due to heavy rain the day before, we were provided with rubber boots for the night tour. In the jungle, we enjoyed explanations about the flora and fauna, which made the experience very enjoyable. We were able to discover a coconut crab during this tour.

The stargazing took place on a sandy beach beyond the jungle. There were concerns due to the heavy rain the day before and forecasts indicating cloudy weather with rain, making it hard to expect clear skies. However, we were able to see a starry sky that looked like a planetarium.

Since this is an experience in nature, the animals you encounter may depend on luck, but I believe you can still enjoy the atmosphere. Long sleeves and long pants are recommended, especially for those concerned about insect bites, but I think short sleeves and shorts would be fine as well. By the way, I participated in short sleeves and long pants, and when I returned to the hotel, I found several bites on my arms. (The guide was in short sleeves, shorts, and flip-flops, haha.) I also brought my smartphone for photography, but in the jungle, I prioritized searching for creatures over taking pictures, so I didn't have the leisure to shoot.

早めに梅雨が明けた6月の半ばに妻と2人で参加しました。
離島ターミナルに集合後、他のツアー参加者とバスでジャングルに向かいました。
向かいや帰りのバスの中ではガイドの方が石垣島のオススメスポットやお店などの情報を教えてくれて大変ためになりました。

前日に大雨があったため長靴を貸してもらってのナイトツアーになりました。
ジャングルでは動植物についての説明もあり大変楽しめました。
今回のツアーではヤシガニを発見することができました。

星空観察はジャングルを抜けた先にある砂浜で行いました。
前日の大雨やサイトによっては曇りのち雨などと記載されていたり、晴れとは言い難い空であったため不安がありましたがプラネタリウムのような満点の星空を見ることができました。

自然の中の体験のためどのような動物に出会えるかは運次第になるかと思いますが雰囲気だけでも十分に楽しめると思います。
長袖長ズボンが推奨されていて虫さされなどが気になる方はその方がいいかと思いますが半袖短パンでも心配はいらないと思います。
ちなみに自分は半袖長ズボンで参加してホテルに戻ったら腕を数箇所、刺されていました。(ガイドの方は半袖短パンビーサンでした笑)
また、写真撮影用にスマートフォンを持参しましたがジャングルの中では撮影よりも生き物探しを優先してしまい撮影している余裕はありませんでした。

We went to a location that is not accessible to the general public by car, explored for about an hour, and were able to see our long-awaited coconut crabs—three of them! We also saw many other creatures that we usually can't see, and it seems the kids had a lot of fun and were very satisfied. Since it was cloudy this time, I hope we can see the starry sky next time.
