I participated in the mangrove canoeing and Yufu Island course.
Although the weather was unfortunate, I was able to enjoy a relaxing time surrounded by mangroves while canoeing. On Yufu Island, I also had a fulfilling time taking pictures with water buffalo and visiting a café.
There were strong winds, and the ferry to Uehara Port was canceled, so we had to switch from SUP to canoeing. However, I received a thorough explanation about these changes over the phone the day before, which was very helpful.
I would like to visit again next time!
マングローブのカヌーと由布島のコースに参加させていただきました。
天気は生憎でしたが、カヌーにのっていくと、マングローブに囲まれ、のんびりした時間を過ごすことが出来ました☺️
由布島でも、水牛と写真を撮ったりカフェに行ったりと、充実した時間を過ごせました。
風が強く、上原港までのフェリーが出ない、SUPがカヌーに変更になってしまうなどもありましたが、それらについても前日の電話でしっかりと説明して頂き、とても助かりました。

In the morning, I rode a water buffalo to Yufu Island. On the island, I was able to touch the water buffalo and feed them. I also saw beautiful butterflies and enjoyed delicious gelato, which made me very satisfied.
For lunch, I returned to Uehara Port and had a meal. I was able to get information about various shops, making it easy to choose.
In the afternoon, I enjoyed the mangrove nature by canoe. The weather wasn't that great, but it was so much fun that it didn't matter.
I want to come back!
午前は水牛に乗って由布島へ。島では水牛に触れたり、餌をあげることもできました。綺麗な蝶もみれたし、美味しいジェラートも食べれて満足です。
昼は上原港に戻って、昼食を。いろいろなお店の情報を聞けたので、選びやすかったです。

The pitch darkness of Iriomote Island made the countless stars in the night sky shine brilliantly, which was truly moving. I was also amazed by the glowing plankton sparkling in the water with just a gentle movement of the paddle. This was my fourth time canoeing, but it was my first time at night, and it was such an enjoyable experience that time flew by too quickly; I wished I could have gazed at the night sky for even longer.

I experienced canoeing and sightseeing on Yubu Island. It was my first time on Iriomote Island, but thanks to the guide's extensive knowledge, I feel like I learned a bit more about the island and the mangroves.
In the morning, I enjoyed the nature of the mangrove forest while canoeing. I was a bit anxious about paddling, but while listening to explanations about the variety of fish and driftwood, I was able to have a fun time. I was reminded once again that nature is truly the best. Canoeing and visiting Yufu Island was so much fun! It felt extraordinary and really cleansed my soul. I think it's perfect for resetting your mind. There's no point in just talking about it; you should experience it for yourself.

It was an incredibly fun and unforgettable experience! In the morning, we paddled through the mangroves in a canoe, enjoying the quiet and mysterious mangrove forest. After that, we went trekking to see a waterfall. The power and beauty of the waterfall were breathtaking. It felt like we were on an adventure!
In the afternoon, we took a water buffalo cart to tour Yubu Island. It truly is a place worthy of being called a southern paradise, with flowers and butterflies that were beautifully picturesque, allowing us to fully experience the richness of nature. The gelato, in particular, was exquisite, refreshing both body and mind.
Additionally, our guide was very friendly and easy to talk to, providing detailed explanations about the flora and fauna along the way. Even for someone like me who doesn’t exercise much, the activity level was just right, resulting in a very fulfilling day. I thoroughly enjoyed the nature and was extremely satisfied with the tour.

In February, when I participated, it seems to be a season with a lot of rain in Iriomote Island, so I was keeping an eye on the weather forecast two weeks before the tour. At the last minute, the forecast changed to cloudy, and somehow I was able to participate in the tour without any rain!
As a couple aged 59 and 65 who don’t exercise at all, we were fortunate that we were the only participants, so our guide, Mr. O, kindly taught us how to handle the canoe according to our pace.
While trekking through the jungle, he matched our pace and explained the scenery and trees along the way, making it a fun stroll. In areas where the cave ceiling was low, even when I struggled to get through, he patiently encouraged me, for which I am very grateful. Since there were elementary school children participating as well, I think beginners can join too.
We also took a lot of photos. Participating in the tour became a wonderful memory! Thank you very much! 🥰

最後の最後に曇り予報に変わり、何とか雨のない中でツアーに参加できました！

洞窟の天井が低いところでは私がくぐれずモタついてしても根気よく声かけていただき有難うございました。小学生のお子さんも参加されているとのことですので初心者でも参加可能だと思います。

The weather was unfortunately bad, but it became a very nice memory. Macchan was very kind and attended to us. We were healed by nature. I recommend experiencing it! For lunch, the taco rice at Moriya is delicious.

We took a ferry from Ishigaki Island to Uehara Port on Iriomote Island, where we were welcomed by our guide, Macchan. It seems that ferries to Uehara Port are often canceled during this season (if canceled, there is a shuttle bus from Ohara Port), so we were lucky.
In the morning, we enjoyed a water buffalo cart tour of Yufu Island, and in the afternoon, we had a mangrove canoe tour. The experience of moving through the sea on a water buffalo cart was extraordinary and became a wonderful memory. I had a truly valuable experience kayaking in the real darkness and quiet after sunset. The darkness made the bioluminescent plankton look beautiful, as I could barely see a few meters ahead. In that peaceful space, the only sounds were the water splashing from the kayak and the calls of owls, allowing me to fully enjoy nature in a way that is not possible in the city.
They provided detailed explanations about constellations, mangroves, and paddling techniques, and the pace allowed us to really appreciate nature, which was great. Thank you very much.
It was cloudy, so I couldn't see the stars, giving it a star rating of -1, but I would like to try again next time.

I took a half-day course on a day trip from Ishigaki Island. I participated on January 6, right in the middle of the off-season. As expected, the ferry to Uehara Port was canceled. It was my first time in Ishigaki Island and Iriomote Island, and I had so many questions, but they provided excellent guidance and support, and an exciting day began.
Although it was a time when flowers, fruits, birds, and animals were all scarce, the air and sky were beautiful, and it was so quiet that it felt like a private experience. I was able to participate with a relaxed mindset.

人生初の洞窟探検では、全く違う次元の景色に感動でした。ガイドさんの安心感があったから、楽しめたのだと思います。

It was a wonderful experience. I felt an excitement as if I had become the protagonist of an adventure novel. Our guide, Matsushita, explained things clearly about driftwood, living creatures, and the history of Yufu Island and Iriomote Island. I booked a kayak and waterfall tour in the morning, followed by a cave exploration tour in the afternoon. The weather was changeable, with light rain, clouds, and finally some sunny intervals.
Paddling through the mangroves on both sides was refreshing. As we approached the waterfall, the sound of the rushing water grew louder, and it was quite powerful up close.
In the afternoon's cave exploration, there was a spot at the entrance where the water was knee-deep, and I couldn't enter without the guide's assistance. I'm grateful for that.
I was able to see tiny, cute bats hanging nearby and felt amazed by the natural formations that took a long time to develop, as explained by the guide. It was a fun tour that offered experiences I wouldn't normally have.

A group of nine people in their 40s to 70s took on the challenge! Except for one person, everyone was a beginner, and we went canoeing and trekking. Along the way, two members in their 70s had to drop out and take a break, but the remaining members made it to the waterfall and had a great time jumping in! The onigiri and fried chicken we ate when we were starving were the best! Our guide's stories were also very enjoyable. The muscle pain that started the next day was tough, but everyone declared that they want to build their stamina and try again!
