It was drizzling, and we couldn't see the stars, but that allowed us to thoroughly explore the jungle for creatures during the tour. On the shuttle bus heading to the jungle, the guide provided a lot of explanations, making the time spent very exciting.
Although it was winter and creatures are not very active during this season, we ended up encountering about ten different species, and both children and adults were very satisfied. Our 3-year-old, who usually doesn't walk much and asks to be carried, surprisingly wanted to walk on their own and went on the exploration.
小雨が降っていて星は見えませんでしたが、そのぶんジャングルで生き物をじっくり探すツアーができました。ツアーを行うジャングルに向かうまでの送迎バスの中でもお兄さんがたくさん解説してくださり、わくわくしながら時間を過ごせました。
冬で生き物があまり活発ではない時期とのことでしたが、結果10種類くらいの生き物に出会うことができ、子どもも大人も大満足でした。
我が家の3歳は普段自分であまり歩かず抱っこをせがむのですが、珍しく自分で歩きたいと言って探検していました。
カッパ/レインコートの持参をお勧めします！
防寒・もし雨が降ったらと思って子どものカッパを持参しました。服の汚れ防止にもなったので結果良かったです。

It was a windy and cold day, so unfortunately, I couldn't see the coconut crabs, but the clouds were blown away by the wind, revealing the best starry sky. I might have enjoyed it even more if I had studied the winter constellations beforehand. I want to participate in a different season next time!

When I moved from Ishigaki City to the western tip of the island, I was able to see the starry sky on a cloudy day with light rain at the beach! It's indeed difficult to see coconut crabs in winter, but I had no regrets as I could observe them up close at the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. The energetic guide who introduced us to various spots from the forest to the beach was also well-received. ^^

In January, the skies over Ishigaki Island are always thick with clouds, making it unsuitable for stargazing compared to the mainland. However, even without seeing the stars, I was able to deepen my understanding of the Ishigaki Island ecosystem through the creatures and plants I encountered during my jungle exploration. On the other hand, I was worried that the cold wave approaching would prevent the coconut crabs from coming out, but unexpectedly, I was lucky enough to see one. During my previous trip to Amami Oshima, I only encountered hermit crabs, so this time I was very satisfied.
1月の石垣島上空は常に雲が厚く、本土より天体観測には不向きですが、星空見えなくてもジャングル探検の途中で出会った生き物と植物で、石垣島生態系に対する理解を深められました。一方あいにく寒波が近寄ってきて寒さのあまりでヤシガニが外に出てくれないだろうと思ってたんですけど、予想外に1体見れてラッキーでした。前奄美大島旅した時はヤドカリとしか出会えなかったので今回は大満足でした。

The midnight jungle tour was filled with excitement that you can't experience normally, and I encountered many creatures that you wouldn't find on Honshu. It's quite challenging to arrange everything on your own, but being able to leave it all to someone else is really helpful. I highly recommend this for those who want to visit various places and see different sights, even if it's a bit rushed! The transportation to and from the hotel and experience locations is very thorough! The bus driver on Iriomote Island was also very entertaining. I have difficulty walking and used a cane, but they were very considerate about the seating, and I was extremely satisfied.

When I participated, there was only the Jungle Night Tour. The guide shared stories about Ishigaki Island and taught us a lot about the local wildlife, which was very educational. It was fun to search for coconut crabs while shining a light up on the cliffs, as they were said to be located higher up. The tour lasted about an hour, and I was able to observe many creatures that I can't see in Honshu, which was really enjoyable. There was also a foreign couple participating, and the guide explained things in simple English, so it seemed like they were having a good time as well.

The main purpose of this trip was to ride the water buffalo cart, and I learned a lot from the explanations about the mangroves. Hearing about the unique natural formation of the subtropics and seeing it right in front of me made for a great experience. Since it's winter, I thought there might not be any coconut crabs around and that the stars might not be visible due to the clouds. However, we discovered a sky full of stars and found coconut crabs, while learning about other crabs, rare plants, and various things. It turned out to be a really enjoyable time! The kids were already having fun the moment we entered the jungle, and it became a wonderful memory.

It felt like a little adventure as we walked down the path surrounded by dense, dark vegetation. During this time of year, the chances of encountering wildlife are low, but I was lucky enough to see two coconut crabs. Unfortunately, the starry sky was obscured and I couldn't see anything. I've heard that summer is a better time for stargazing, so I hope to come back in the summer for a second chance.
The guide had incredible knowledge about the flora and fauna, and I heard some fascinating stories. Also, I participated alone, but it was no problem at all.
真っ暗な草木が生い茂った道を進むので、ちょっとした探検気分でした。
この時期は生き物との遭遇率が低い中、運良く2匹もヤシガニが見れたのでラッキーでした。
ただ星空は曇りだったのか真っ暗で見えませんでした。
やはり夏の方が見えやすいとのことなのでいつか夏にリベンジしたいと思います。

The tour from Ishigaki was great for a day trip without any stress. Exploring Yufu Island at my own pace was enjoyable, and the water buffalo cart ride allowed me to relax and listen to songs. The guide on the boat in Nakama River showed us the mangrove forest and the wild birds. It was wonderful.

It would have been very difficult for us to explore so many places in such depth on our own. The forecast was for cloudy weather with occasional rain, so I was worried about whether we could enjoy it, but I decided to participate based on previous experiences shared by others.
Indeed, it was cloudy and we couldn't see the stars at all, but everyone was so focused on the jungle exploration, searching for coconut crabs and unique plants and creatures of Ishigaki Island, that we completely forgot about the night sky and had a great time united as a team.
Even though I was meeting everyone for the first time, we all came together as one team around our guide and had fun (there were three teams that day).
After about a 30-minute journey in complete darkness, it felt like we were on a mystery tour. During the trip, the guide shared many hidden gems and recommended spots unique to Ishigaki Island. I was desperately trying to take notes.
This alone made the tour incredibly valuable!
Since the environment changes with each season, I definitely want to experience another season next time. I would love to hear the explanations during a starry night as well. I want to go again and again. Thank you!

季節ごとに環境もちがうので、また次は他の季節をぜひ体験してみたいと思いました。

By the time we arrived at Taketomi Island, the rain and wind were intense, and we couldn't enjoy the island much. Since we had signed up for a free walk plan, there was no guide on-site, and I felt that it was difficult to sightsee in bad weather.

まずはフェリーで西表島へ。
由布島へいく水牛のスポットまでバスで移動でした。
バスガイドのおじさんのトークが素晴らしく、笑いが絶えない楽しい時間でした。
そして念願の水牛に乗って由布島へ。
水牛はとても可愛く、三味線の音楽を聴きながら由布島へ渡りましたが、沖縄に来たんだなぁと改めて実感しました。
由布島はかなり小さい島なのでサクッと観光できました。
その次は遊覧船でマングローブを観光しました。
かなり雨が降っていたので、雨除けのカバーが付いており、少し見づらかったのが残念でした。
竹富島に着く頃には雨と風が激しく、あまり島を楽しむことができませんでした。
私たちはフリーウォークプランに申し込んでいたので、現地でガイドさんがおらず、天候が悪いと観光するのが難しいなと感じました。
竹富島も綺麗なビーチがあるみたいなので、次回は是非天気が良いときに来てみたいなと思います！
