During my first trip to Okinawa, I wanted to try a handmade experience, so I participated in a Bingata dyeing workshop. I chose one pattern from three options and received an explanation from the staff before starting the dyeing experience. Since the patterns are intricate, it took quite a bit of time and required a lot of concentration (laughs). I think it's better to set aside about three hours for the experience.
I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't achieve the colors I wanted in some areas. I wish there had been a practice session for color mixing before the actual experience.
You can take your creation home after the workshop, but you'll need to do some post-processing at home, including "color fixing" and "water treatment." They provide an explanation, so I was able to complete the aftercare without any issues.
I would love to try this again!
初めての沖縄旅行で何か手作り体験をしたくて、こちらの紅型染めを体験しました。
３種類の柄から１つ選んで、スタッフから説明を受けて染め体験を開始。柄が細かい為に結構時間がかかり、集中力も必要です（苦笑）３時間位の時間を作って体験した方がいいと思います。
作りたい色が出なかった部分があり少し残念。体験前に色つくりの練習をさせてもらえるといいなと思いました。
体験後持ち帰ることが出来ますが、帰宅後に「色止め」と「水元」の作業が必要です。説明文を付けてもらえるので後処理の作業は問題無く出来ました。
またチャレンジしたいです！！

It was quite difficult. I kneaded the clay and shaped it myself, even doing the painting. I thought they would teach me various things, but instead, I was shown a DVD and followed along with that. The style is to call the staff only when you don't understand something. I felt a bit abandoned at first, but I managed to do it reasonably well. It turns out that being left alone was just right! I realized that while doing it. I was focused the whole time. The sense of accomplishment when it was finished was incredible.
なかなか難しいです。土をこねて形を自分で作り、絵付けまでしました。色々と教えてくれるのかと思いきや、DVDを見せられ、それにそって進んでいきます。分からないときだけ店員さんを呼ぶと言うスタイルです。結構放置され最初は戸惑いましたが、それなりに出来るものですね。放置で丁度よいのですね！やってみてわかりました。こちらも終始集中してました。出来上がった時の達成感は、半端ないです。

Our first trip to Okinawa! My three daughters (ages 14, 10, and 8) really wanted to experience coloring Shisa! So we were taken care of here. The staff who guided us were very friendly, and I was happy that they spoke to us a lot. There were many different sample Shisa, and I was unsure which techniques to borrow (laughs). Using the paint mixtures and the techniques we learned, we created our own original Shisa.
After returning home, we displayed them side by side.
初の沖縄旅行～～！我が家の三姉妹（14・10・８歳）シーサー色付け体験がどうしてもやりたい！！ということでこちらでお世話になりました。
指導していただいたスタッフさんたちは、とても気さくな方たちで、たくさんお声をかけていただけうれしく思いました。
見本のシーサーも何種類もあり、どの技を盗んでいいやら迷っちゃいます(笑)
絵の具の配合や盗んだ技を使ってオリジナルのシーサー出来上がりました。
帰宅後は、並べて飾ってあります。

I was worried whether my clumsy son would be able to do it, but the staff's explanations were thorough. Since we made a reservation for the early morning, there was no one else there, allowing us to learn at a relaxed pace and enjoy the experience. My son was having a great time, saying, "I love this kind of thing!" He dyed a tote bag to take to school. In addition to coral, there were fish and shisa, and we could also add letters and drawings. I chose to dye a T-shirt. After returning home, I set the color with an iron, and after wearing and washing it several times, the color is still vivid. I thought that the staff would be there to guide us the whole time, but when I arrived, there was only one staff member at the store. I was told to watch a DVD first to learn how to make it, which made me a bit anxious about whether I could do it properly. However, I managed to create it by following along! I had a lot of fun chatting with my friends while we worked on it together.

First, we had a tutorial on how to make it via video. It seemed difficult at first, but as we progressed, everyone managed to create something that reflected their individual characteristics. My 6-year-old grandchild was able to complete it all by themselves. I think the coloring turned out so well that you could easily tell whose work it was just by looking at the finished pieces.
Everyone took theirs home and quickly displayed them. Next time, I want to challenge myself with glass.
初めにビデオにて作り方の講習をしました。見てると難しく感じましたが、作っていくうちにみんなそれなりに形が出来、個人の特徴が出ました。6歳の孫も最後まで一人で作成しました。色付けに関しても仕上がりを見れば誰の作品かわかるくらい上手に出来たと思います。
それぞれ家に持って帰りさっそく飾りました。次回はガラスに挑戦したいです。

Initially, I only planned to do the painting, but I experienced making a shisa. Personally, if you have limited time, I recommend making a shisa. There is about 15 minutes of baking time, but while looking at the sample shisa in the store and the many glass crafts for candle making, time flew by quickly.
最初は色塗りだけを予定していましたがシーサーづくりから体験しました、個人的には時間がなくてどちらかならシーサーづくりの方がお薦めです。15分ほど焼の時間が入りますが店内の見本のシーサーを見たりキャンドルづくりのガラス細工が沢山あってみているとあっという間に時間が過ぎました。

I was worried about whether I could really make a Shisa from a round lump of clay, but thanks to the thorough lecture, even someone like me without artistic sense was able to create a decent (?) Shisa! They will fire it in a kiln, and it will arrive at my home in a month and a half, so it feels like I'm waiting for a Christmas present, and I'm excited (laughs). If you go to Okinawa, I definitely recommend trying "authentic Shisa making"!

It seems that the address found on Google is for a previous location, and it appears to be an art shop now. I think it would be good to rely on the address from the reservation ticket. (I was informed by the staff at that art shop, haha.)
I thought painting would be quite difficult, but there was a video prepared, and by remembering the steps and following the instructions, it was easy to do! The staff would come when called, and in a good way, it felt relaxed, which was perfect for my family! It seems that even if you go a little over time, it's okay, so families with small children can take their time without feeling rushed. Everyone was able to create different Shisa, and the kids were happy. It was really fun, to the point where even the adults got really into it, so I definitely recommend going!
Also, since we used acrylic paint, it would be best to wear clothes that can get dirty or bring some, so you won't have to worry about getting your favorite clothes stained! Especially if small children are participating, they might get dirty without realizing it...
Googleで検索した住所だと以前の場所のようで現在は絵画店？のようでしたので、予約券の住所を頼りにしていくと良いと思います。(ウチはその絵画店の方に教えていただきましたw)
絵付けは自体は、結構難しいのかな？と思っていましたが、ビデオが用意してあり、段取りを覚えて手順通りに行うと簡単に出来ました！
スタッフの方も呼ぶと来てくれる位で、良い意味で適当な感じで、ウチの家族には最適でした！
時間も少し位でなく結構過ぎても大丈夫なようで、小さいお子さんが居てもセカセカしないで出来るので家族連れには嬉しいと思いますよ！
一人一人違うシーサーができて、子供たちも喜んでいました。とにかくとっても楽しく、大人の方が夢中になる位ですので、是非行ってみてください！
それと、アクリル絵の具なので、出来れば汚れてもいい服を着ていくか、持っていくかするとお気に入りの服を汚さないですむ済むと思います！
特に小さいお子さんが行う場合は知らないうちに汚しそうなので...

Naha City is fun for shopping, but I wanted to do something that felt more like an Okinawa trip, so I signed up for this activity. I made a reservation in advance and entered the store right when it opened. Customers kept coming in, and the store seemed busy. There were also several cats there, which were popular with the passing children. First, we choose one from many pre-made shisa figures made of plaster. There were various unique shisa, such as those with open mouths and closed mouths, making it hard to decide. After watching a DVD on how to paint, we started decorating. Once we began, not just I, but the children also carefully observed the samples (there are various colorful shisa in the store) to enjoy the painting process. Each table had a small fan, which helped the paint dry quickly, so we weren't bored. Including the drying time and the time to pack them in boxes, it takes about an hour to complete. It was my first time in Okinawa, and I tried making a shisa for the first time. Initially, I thought I would be taught by the staff, but it turned out that the basic approach was to do it myself and ask questions whenever I was unsure, which was a bit confusing. I participated alone, but I didn't feel lonely at all; I was completely absorbed in making and painting the shisa. The staff were very kind, and even though I took about 2 hours and 30 minutes to finish my work, they waited for me until the end. It's not perfect since I made it myself, but it looks cute because I put in the effort. I'm displaying it in my room and feeling the spirit of Okinawa.

Since I was in Okinawa, just sightseeing was nice, but I thought it might be good to create something and have an experience, so I participated. I had previously made Ryukyu glass, but this time making a Shisa was very satisfying because I could experience everything from kneading the clay myself to coloring it! Although my creation wasn't perfect, it was great that the whole family could easily enjoy it together! The location is also close to Nago city, so it's recommended as a stopover while visiting somewhere else! I was also happy that I could take it home right away! Thank you very much!
折角の沖縄なので観るだけの観光もいいけれど、何かを作って体験してみるのも良いかも！？と思い参加しました。以前、琉球グラスも作ったことはありましたが、今回のシーサー作りは、粘土を自分で捏ねるところから、色付けまですべて体験できたので大満足でした！自分のデキはイマイチとして、家族みんなで手軽に楽しめたので良かった！場所も名護市街から近いので、何処かのついでに寄ることもできるのでオススメですね〜！その場で持ち帰ることが出来るのも嬉しい！ありがとうございました〜！

I used the service on New Year's Eve. It was stated that it would take about an hour to finish, but I got so into it that I spent almost two hours working in near silence (laughs). My husband, who is not good at crafts, also enjoyed making it, and now we have it cutely displayed at the entrance as our guardian deity☆ The baking time was only about 10 minutes, so it was great that we could take it home right away (＾▽＾). However, I was a bit worried that it might break easily since it was baked in just 10 minutes, but it has become a wonderful memory.
大晦日の日に利用させていただきました。
1時間くらいで仕上がると記載があったのですが、夢中になり2時間かけてほとんど無言の状態で作っていました（笑）
工作が苦手な旦那も楽しんで作ってくれて、今は玄関に守り神としてかわいく飾っています☆
焼き時間も10分もあればしてくれるのですぐに持ち帰りもできてよかったです（＾▽＾）ただ10分で焼き上げるのですぐに壊れてしまわないか心配ですがとってもいい思い出になりました。

It's been a long time since I molded clay to create something, not since elementary school. It seems simple, but it doesn't go as smoothly as I expected. Before I knew it, I was completely focused on making a Shisa. The finished Shisa may not be something anyone would call well-made, but it's my one-of-a-kind treasure in the world.
While travel often revolves around sightseeing and dining, I felt that experiences like this, creating something, leave a lasting impression on the heart.
The staff's pleasant attitude also made it a memorable experience for a lifetime.

いつの間にか、集中してシーサー作りに取り組んでいた。
