Traditional Shodo Japanese Calligraphy Class in Osaka
Personalised class in doing calligraphy
Activity Date: 2019/11/29 | Posted on: 2019/12/01

Our hostess was charming and friendly. She was able to demonstrate and explain the art of calligraphy very clearly and we had a great time practicing our words and names and then producing a copy to take home and frame. My son and I were the only ones in the class so had her undivided attention. She was very complimentary about all our efforts.
As a bonus we asked for the recommendation for any nearby sushi restaurants, and she sent us to a sensational place.

Introductory Cultural Shodo Calligraphy Lesson in Namba or Shinsaibashi
Excellent introductory class
Activity Date: 2016/08/30 | Posted on: 2016/09/01

What a fantastic art form... When one single stroke can draw vocal approval from the friendly and patient expert tutors - 'nice nice' - like a well executed tennis backhand... Then the next line - almost identical to my eyes - can have the same people collapsing in fits of giggles at its ineptitude... Sometimes baffling but highly addictive!

Did you know? Japanese calligraphy, shodo, is also called shuji. This centuries-old form of artistic writing of the Japanese language is one of the most revered forms of artistic expression in Japanese culture. Learn how to properly wield a brush and lose yourself in the meditative process of putting ink to paper stroke by stroke. With locations in Namba and Shinsaibashi or short distances from Dotombori and Umeda, this is a convenient and relaxing activity that you can enjoy, rain or shine.
