Reviewed by: kiki, 2021/10/15

Glass Kanzashi Hair Ornament Making Class in Trendy Kichijoji

Can’t be explained. You need to try this yourself to understand.

Reviewed by: Jay, 2020/03/01

Very interesting class, practicing a skill I didn’t even know existed. Starting from a couple glass rods and finishing with a multi colored round jewel like ornament is certainly something you don’t see every day. This tour operator also went above and beyond to help make this class first rate. I have an injured left hand so it was difficult to perform the motion necessary to make the jewel. so not only did the instructor help me through the process, but also because she knew this would be a gift for my girlfriend let me use the demonstration ornament she made in my finished product.

Make Your Own Silver Promise Rings or Wedding Rings in Tokyo

Amazing Experience!

Reviewed by: Anica, 2020/02/08

Making these rings was the highlight of our trip. I would highly recommend this activity to any couple, regardless of Japanese language ability! We used a pocket translator that was provided and didn’t have any issues communicating when we were making the rings. The rings are absolutely beautiful!

Japanese Culture Experience Tour in Nihonbashi

Insight into culture

Reviewed by: Laura, 2018/09/30

Thoughtful & well organized this tour is a good introduction to Tokyo crafts.
I especially liked visiting the Shinto Shrine and liked the pace of the tour. The tour includes the Coredo buildings, modern but with ancient crafts to enjoy.

Ring making!

Had a great time and ended up with a very cool rings! We didn't speak any Japanese but the staff were very helpful and didn't mind! Would definitely recommend. If you're going as a couple and you don't speak Japanese make sure you ask for a smaller ring if you're a lady otherwise you'll end up with 2 big ones!

Japanese Culture Experience Tour in Nihonbashi

Lovely Group Tour in Nihonbashi

Reviewed by: SongnDance, 2017/04/24

The Nihonbashi Information Center was wonderfully accommodating in helping me plan a tour for our group of 14. The email follow-up, confirmation and check-ins were excellent.

The information center itself was easily accessible from the JR Train line and we actually managed the trip there and back ourselves, without a guide. Once there, we were warmly greeted by several staff members who noted our allergies and communicated with our luncheon restaurant. The Culture Experience tour guide wore a mic which was appreciated, and, although not Japanese, also traditional garb, adding to the neatness of the experience. Her fluent English was a plus. We were happy to be assigned two guides, one of whom vigilantly watched the group stragglers to ensure we all got where we needed to be.

Tons of interesting information was shared, lunch was a delicious experience with authentic Japanese cuisine. Our only regret was that there was no English menu or explanation to tell us exactly what we were eating, as our guide(s) did not remain with us for lunch, and the restaurant spoke very little English. The tried very hard, however and were sometimes able to communicate the English words for items on our menu.

Following lunch, our group split in two to switch places doing an Origami class offered by the Center -- and shopping. Everyone loved this experience, which was well worth the investment.

  • The Information Center was located inside Coredor 1

  • Origami was great fun!

  • We learned how to shave fish and got to taste the fish shavings

  • Learning about chopsticks and how to use them was useful!

  • These candy sticks, in flavors like rose, lavender and chamomile -- were delectable.

  • An explanation near the shrine

  • A ritual handwashing exercise prior to viewing the temple

  • It is respectful to bow before entering, and when leaving.

  • A photo op near the shrine

Glass Engraving with Sand Blasting Lesson in Ichigaya

A memorable and purposeful experience

Reviewed by: Ng Chee Keong, 2016/06/06

I am a fan of crafts and related workshops. In this Japan trip alone, I have taken up 3 workshops (including this Glass Sand Blasting Experience).

Among the 3, this has given me the most satisfaction, since efforts has been the most demanding. Under the guidance of the sweet mentor, I went through the process of planning, designing, sand blasting and cleaning of the product – all by myself.

Besides satisfaction, the knowledge gained is another plus. There was no pressure and the mentor has been patience and helpful. Will definitely visit again in my next trip! And recommending others to it too!!

Pros: A patient, seasoned mentor, Learning experience that is uncommon back home, a wonderful product to bring home.

Cons: Location (may be slightly challenging to find), slight communication gap.

Stone Juzu Buddhist Rosary Making Lesson in Daikanyama

Interesting meeting

Reviewed by: Kami, 2016/03/26

That was a really interesting meeting. We talk about buddhist religion and more. We create our rosary and had a good time. :) Maybe next time we will come in Tera Cafe just as Cafe visitors.

Stone Juzu Buddhist Rosary Making Lesson in Daikanyama

Making a Juzu at the talked about cafe

Reviewed by: taro, 2016/02/10

Recently I've been seeing the Tera Cafe on TV or online, so I decided to go ahead and give the Juzu making a try.

The four of us in my family all wanted to go, and since booking pink (New Quartz) and blue (New Aquamarine) or green (New Jade) has to be done separately, I booked 3 of us for blue/green and 1 for pink.
Just a bit after booking, one of the staff from the cafe called to confirm my details.

The store was even closer to Daikanyama Station that I expected, and it was really easy to see with the 5 colored drapery and store logo.
The inside was like a Western cafe, but unique with the shrine to the Amitabha Buddha inside.

This cafe apparently has a monk who is resident, but the staff that day was a woman.
Even my elementary school boy and 3 year old daughter had fun, as the instructions were clear and well taught.
We even learned a bit about the parts of the Juzu, like the ""Oyadama"" parent ball and the ""Basa"" pieces.
We fit the kids' by removing stones until the size was just right, and everyone had a picture perfect one by the end.
It felt really nice to make something just how you imagined it.
You can wear it all the time or just carry it with you when you go to visit a temple.

I was focused on making the Juzu today, but the more I think about it the more I think that talking about Buddhism or the temples would have been nice. It's not really a topic you get to talk about a lot.

That's it about the Juzu rosary making, but actually... We went a bit early and had lunch at the cafe too.
The price is a bit high but the quality and contents are really delicious, so I recommend it.

  • A small shrine in the cafe

  • Perfect fit for everyone

  • Threading them one by one

Reviewed by: taro, 2016/01/24
