Though this course is suitable for beginners, you have to be in good physical condition on the day of 8-hour trekking. In the area near the peak, you have to use a rope to climb a steep slope.

You start the trekking tour from Yodogawa trailhead to one of the 7 most renowned mountains in Yakushima, enjoying the view of Kobandake (also called Tofuiwa) on the way.
You can take a one-day trekking tour to Okudake via this course.
The peak commands a superb panoramic view of Nagatadake, Miyanouradake to the north, Hananoego to the south under your eyes, and Kobandake to the south-west.

You will notice many different kinds of plants as we climb up to 1300 meters above sea level. You can even see alpine plants in the high-altitude area.

Pick-up at Miyanoura to Onoaida area
We will trek from Yakusugi Land, climb Tachudake, and return to Yakusugi Land. It may be easy to walk for about the first 90 minutes, but the slope becomes gradually steeper when you get near to the peak of Tachudake. In some areas, you have to use a rope to climb.

The peak commands a superb view of Aikodake, Anbou, Arakawa Dam, and even Tanegashima on fine days. There is a huge granite rock called Tenchuseki, 40 meters both tall height and around, which can be seen from various area of the island.

Visit Aikodake, one of the 7 renowned mountains in Yakushima with a beautiful triangular peak like a mountain in the Himalayas.
Start trekking from 170 m and climb up the slope of a constant slope to 1000 m. In the last 200 m, you have to use a rope to climb the steep slope.

This mountain is rather hard to climb, so you have to be in a fairly good condition when you climb. You may want to have knee supporters for the downhill section.
The course may be changed to another mountain or safer course if weather is bad.

The peak offers views of Miyanouradake, the highest peak in Kyushu, Nagatadake, Tachudake, Shirataniunsuikyou, Miyanouracho, and Yakushima Airport! Also, on fine days, you can see Tanegashima, Satamisaki, the southernmost part of Kyushuu, and Kaimondake on the Osumi Peninsula.

The trailhead is located at the side of Chihiro Falls, and it takes about 1 hour from the prefectural road to Chihiro Falls.

You have to cross streams, and climb up a long and steep slope. You will arrive at Kamiyama Observatory after climbing a severe mountain course rugged with tree roots and stones overlapping each other, and seeing huge cedar trees including 3,000 year old Bandaisugi and Mocchoumu Tato.

Mocchomudake is not so high, but the course is tough. You have to use your arms to climb a steep slope in some area, and in the last 30 minutes, you have to use a rope to climb, which especially requires concentration and upper body strength.
The rocky peak commands fantastic views of the town of Hara and Onoaida under your eyes. On fine days, you can see the Tokara Islands to the far south.
