The trekking to Jomon Sugi and the round trip around Yakushima by rental car were both great experiences, but the view from Taiko Rock is something you can only see by going there, so I highly recommend it. I was really looking forward to the moss in Shiratani Unsuikyo, and last year I was moved by my visit to Oirase Gorge, but Shiratani Unsuikyo had impressive large rocks and trees.

The weather was nice, and it seemed that the summit of Mount Miyanoura was hidden by clouds, so I think the view from Taiko Rock was better that day. The final climb was a bit tough on my sore muscles after two days of hiking, but it’s worth pushing yourself a little to go. The bleached Jomon Sugi, the mountains around the river, the lush greenery, and the flowing clouds were all breathtaking. It felt a bit dangerous as if I might fall, but I thought it would be amazing if I could safely take a nap there.

It was my first time climbing the mountain with a guide, and I was impressed by their wealth of knowledge and ability to manage the pace. The deep breathing time after getting out of breath was much appreciated. One person in our group had their shoe sole come off, but the guide handled it calmly, and everyone was able to descend safely.

Meeting the Jomon Sugi was, of course, moving, but the weather was also great, and even though it was an emergency, I was fortunate to see the trolley running. I think it was a blessed climbing experience.

I had no experience in mountain climbing and I usually don't exercise, so I was very anxious, but I was able to enjoy the climb. It was cool, and there were places to refill water, so bringing just one bottle was more than enough.

When I returned from exploring Jomon Sugi, I passed by the gate of Yakusugi Land again, and it was open, with tourists coming in and out, possibly because the flood warning had been lifted. Despite this, I passed through the gate. In the end, I went straight to my accommodation without visiting Yakusugi Land, which I was looking forward to the most. The course is a grueling one, over 20 km round trip, but the emotional impact of reaching Jomon Sugi is unparalleled; I believe it’s not an exaggeration to say it changed my perspective on life. The joy and sense of accomplishment at the finish line, while dragging my aching feet along the trolley path on the way back, was an experience I could only have here. Thank you to our super guide, Mr. Mitsuhashi, for this wonderful experience.

In a word, it was amazing! I was guided by Mr. Ando, and I had a very enjoyable time.

I went on July 4th, and the weather was favorable, making it easy to walk. I was able to enjoy various shapes of cedar trees, including Jomon Sugi, Daiou Sugi, and Wilson Stump. The story about the village that used to exist on the island was also fascinating. It's surprising that they receive money from the government to cut down trees. The water supply points located throughout the area were incredibly helpful. Even though it wasn't sunny, the cold water pouring over my head and neck in the heat was pure bliss.

I think it's better to have a guide. While young people might manage to traverse the path without difficulty, the round trip on the so-called "Trolley Road," which takes about two hours each way (a total of four hours), can honestly get boring. It's just a flat path to walk on. The most enjoyable part would be walking while chatting with the guide during this time. It was such a wonderful experience that I want to go again with the same plan and the same guide.

P.S. I got gastroenteritis from eating raw chicken in Kagoshima, so I couldn't write my experience for a while. You should definitely never eat chicken raw.

7/4に行きましたが，天気にも恵まれ歩きやすかったです．
縄文杉をはじめ大王杉，ウィルソン株など，様々な形の杉を堪能できました．
また，島に以前存在した集落？も興味深い話でした．国からお金をもらって木を伐るとは，驚きです．そして随所にある給水地点にすごく助けられました．日が当たらないとはいえ暑い中，頭や首から被る冷たい水は幸せの一言です．

また，ガイドさんつけた方がいいと思います．
若人であれば難なく踏破は可能でしょうが，トロッコ道と呼ばれる，行き返りの各2時間ずつ(たしか計4時間ほど)は正直飽きます．ただ平たんな道を歩くだけです．この時間にガイドさんと話に花を咲かせながら歩くのが一番楽しいでしょう．
もう一度同じプランで同じガイドさんで行きたいと思うほど，素晴らしい体験でした．

p.s.鹿児島での鳥刺しに当たり胃腸炎になって体験談がなかなか書けませんでした．絶対に鳥は生で食っちゃいけません．

Since it is a popular course, I think it would normally be difficult for us to take our time and take photos by ourselves. However, thanks to the guide leading us at a comfortable pace, we were able to take photos at the scenic spots along the way (like Wilson Cedar) without being with other guests. During the trekking, the guide also took photos for us like a photographer, allowing us to walk without worrying about taking pictures, which I believe helped us reach our destination, Jomon Cedar, faster. Of course, at Jomon Cedar, we were able to enjoy and take photos freely in a place with hardly anyone around. The guide did not rush us on the way back, and we were able to fully savor the experience. We were also able to progress at our own pace on the way back, which was comfortable. I was quite anxious on my first trip to Yakushima, but thanks to our veteran guide, I was able to enjoy the journey to Jomon Sugi immensely. Thank you for sharing the history and the beauty of Yakushima with humor! I felt reassured as I could rely on the guide for pacing and rest stops. 🥳 I was also grateful that the guide actively took photos for us.
