I was able to efficiently circle Yakushima with the help of our driver and guide, Mr. S, who provided a lot of explanations about the island's charm. I was particularly moved by the Jomon Sugi, which I could see and touch up close. I gained a lot of energy from its immense life force that has endured for thousands of years. In the nature-filled Yakushima, I also encountered Yakushima deer and Yakushima macaque families along the way, which healed my heart by showing the original state of coexistence between humans and living creatures. The blue sea of Nagata Beach, known for being the best in Japan for sea turtle nesting, was also wonderful. While Yakushima is famous for its Yakusugi, the large banyan tree was equally impressive. There were many other attractions as well, including Okawa Falls and Senpiryu Falls, and I enjoyed a fulfilling day with a great sense of value, especially with lunch featuring the local specialty, fried flying fish.

効率よく屋久島を1周してくれ、ドライバー兼ガイドのＳさんの説明があり、屋久島の魅力をたくさん知る事が出来た。特に紀元杉は間近に見て触れる事が出来るので感動した。何千年も生き続ける大きな生命力にパワーを沢山もらった。とにかく自然あふれる屋久島では道中、屋久鹿や屋久猿ファミリーにも出会え、人間と生き物たちの共存する本来の姿に心が癒された。海亀の産卵が日本一の永田浜の海の青さも素晴らしかった。屋久島は屋久杉が有名だけど、それに負けないくらいガジュマルの大きな門も感動的だった。他にも見所がたくさんで大川滝や千尋の滝、ヤクスギランドにも行き、昼食は名物の飛び魚の唐揚げまで付いているのでお得感満載の充実した1日だった。

Since it was a weekday, I encountered more animals than hikers, and the tourist spots were empty, which was fantastic! The guide's pace was great, and the miso soup service at Wilson's Stock was warming.

平日行ったのもあり登山客より動物に良く会い、観光名所もガラガラで最高でした！！
ガイドさんのペースもよくウィルソン株でのお味噌汁のサービス体が温まりました。

Trekking in Yakushima was my first experience, but the guide was very attentive, explaining various things and skillfully incorporating breaks. I thought an 11-hour trek might be too much for me since I'm over 60, but thanks to the guide, I was able to complete it safely! I believe it's better to join a tour since going alone would be quite challenging.

屋久島トレッキングは初体験でしたが、ガイドさんがいろいろ説明してくれたり、休憩を上手に入れてくれたりと心遣いをしてくれました。
11時間のトレッキングは、60歳過ぎてる私には無理かなぁと思いましたが、ガイドさんのお陰で無事歩けました！
個人で行くと大変なので、ツァーに参加した方が良いと思いました。

Although the weather was not very good with mist and rain at Jomon Sugi and Kumoi Gorge, thanks to our guide's accurate judgment, we were able to fully enjoy the majestic Jomon Sugi and the mystical forest of Kumoi Gorge. Especially at Kumoi Gorge, as it started to rain along the way, we had to give up on Taiko Rock, but with the guide's suggestion, we changed our route to walk through the primeval forest on the way back. Because of this suggestion, we were able to see many unique trees and giant trees, which in turn gave us a lot of emotional experiences. Thanks to our guide, we were healed by the great nature of Yakushima for two days. Thank you very much.

縄文杉も雲水峡も霧や雨と天気はあまりよくありませんでしたが、ガイドさんの的確な判断で雄大な縄文杉や雲水峡のもののけの森を満喫することができました。特に雲水峡では途中で雨が降り始めたため太鼓岩を断念し、ガイドさんの提案で復路を原生林を歩くコースに変更となりましたが、この提案のおかげたくさんの奇樹や巨木を見ることができ、逆に多くの感動を頂きました。ガイドさんのおかげで2日間屋久島の大自然に癒されました、本当にありがとうございました。

The course was to climb from Shiratani Unsuikyo to Taiko Rock and meet Jomon Sugi. We set off before sunrise and walked until dusk. We took breaks every two hours, having breakfast around 6 AM and lunch around 11 AM. The guide, a local, shared important points but didn't engage in unnecessary chatter, managing the pace well and leading us effectively. There were five of us in the party, and no one complained; we were able to trek in good spirits. The weather was great, and the view from Taiko Rock was amazing. Jomon Sugi felt divine, allowing us to sense the mysteries of nature. It was a valuable tour.

白谷雲水峡から太鼓岩を登って、縄文杉に会いに行くコースでした。
日が昇る前から出発、日が暮れるまで歩きました。2時間おきほどで休憩して朝食は6時ごろ、昼食は11時ごろ食べました。
ガイドさんは、地元の人で大事なポイントは教えてくれましたがあまり無駄話はせずペース配分を考えて、うまくリードしてくれたと思います。5人パーティでしたが誰も弱音は吐かず、気分良くトレッキング出来ました。
天候も良く、太鼓岩からの景色が最高でした。縄文杉も神々しく自然の神秘を感じることができました。価値あるツアーでした。

Yakushima, my mother's hometown. I visited for the first time in 22 years. It was my first time going to Jomon Sugi, and I was a bit anxious, but the guide's detailed explanations and the friendly participants made the long trek enjoyable. It rained for part of the way, but when the rain stopped, I was deeply moved by the fantastical forest and Yakusugi shrouded in mist. The guide also explained the history of Yakushima, and I want to learn more about it, including its history. I think it's a good idea to bring plenty of snacks since you get hungry. An umbrella is also essential. I realized that the reason this nature is preserved is precisely because the trek along the long, winding trolley path is not easy. I'm really glad I participated in this tour.

母の故郷である屋久島。22年ぶりに訪れました。縄文杉に行くのははじめてで、少し不安でしたが、ガイドさんの詳しい説明と参加されていた方が、気さくな方で長い道のりでしたが、楽しくトレキッングできました。途中まで雨が降っていましたが、雨が上がると霧に包まれた幻想的な森や屋久杉を見れてとても感動しました。ガイドさんから屋久島の歴史等も説明してもらい、屋久島のことを歴史も含めて調べてみたいと思います。お腹がすくのでおやつは多い目に持って行った方がいいと思います。傘も必需品です。ながーくながーく続くトロッコ道簡単に行けないからこそ、この自然が守られているのだと思いました。このツアーに参加して本当に良かったと思います。

I took the bus that picked us up at 4:30 AM and headed to the trailhead. I managed to eat breakfast despite still feeling groggy... and we set off. As we progressed, the surroundings became brighter, and watching the sunrise made me feel refreshed. We walked in a single file, and there was consideration for rotating during breaks. One slight disappointment was that, due to time constraints, there was one instance where the guide spoke while walking, and since I was at the back, I couldn't hear the guide's talk clearly. However, it might have been that I was tired and lacking concentration.

I brought chocolate and candy for energy, but I thought that during hot weather, something saltier might be necessary. I also thought that something with a sour taste, like dried fruits or snacks made from dried daikon, could be a nice change.

Actually, I was most worried about the restroom situation. Although portable toilets were provided, we only needed restroom breaks, which was fine. The comfortable temperature might have helped as well. Since the backpack and shoes were rented, I was concerned about blisters, but I had no worries at all. It was more convenient than preparing my own gear, which was great.

I noticed the guide quickly picking up small pieces of trash while walking. After that, I realized, "Come to think of it, there isn't any trash lying around..." I was reminded that picking up trash shouldn't be taken for granted, and that not littering is essential to protect nature.

Lastly, the miso soup we had for lunch was very delicious. Thank you to everyone who joined us and to the guide!

４時30分迎えのバスに乗り、登山口へ。まだ起ききってないカラダに、朝食を頑張って入れて・・・出発しました。どんどん周りが明るくなり、朝日が昇って来るのを眺めるのは、清々しい気分になれました。一列歩行で進むため、休憩の度にローテーションするように、配慮されていました。少しだけ残念だったのは、時間的な事もあるので仕方無いと思いますが、1度だけ歩きながらお話された事があり、後方に居たので、ガイドさんのトークが遠くて聞こえない事が有りました。ただ、自身が疲れていて、集中力を欠いていたのかもしれません。

　栄養補給のために、チョコレートや飴を持参しましたが、汗をかく時期なら、より塩味が必要かと思いましたが、酸味のあるモノで、噛んで食べる物が、気分が変って良いのではと思いました。酸味のあるドライフルーツとか、寒干し大根のお菓子とかがお薦めかも。

　実は一番心配していた、お手洗い事情。簡易トイレも一応用意はしましたが、お手洗い休憩だけで、大丈夫でした。過ごしやすい気温だった事も良かったのかもしれません。リックや靴はレンタルなので、靴擦れが心配でしたが、全く心配はいりませんでした。自身で用意するより気軽で、良かったです。

　ガイドさんが歩きながら、さっと小さなゴミを拾ったのを拝見しました。其の後で「そう言えば、ゴミって落ちてないなぁ・・」と気が付きました。拾う事が当たり前ではなく、捨てない事が当たり前で無くては、自然を守る事が出来ないんだと、改めて思いました。

　最後に、昼食で頂いたお味噌汁、大変美味しかったです。そして、ご一緒頂きました皆様・ガイドさん、ありがとうございました。

I usually work at a desk, and I was feeling a bit under the weather in the weeks leading up to the trip, so I seriously considered canceling right before the tour. Although I have some experience climbing in the Northern Alps, I couldn't imagine walking for over 10 hours. However, thanks to participating in the tour, I was able to maintain a steady pace, and I felt good afterward without becoming groggy. It was truly enjoyable.

I received a call the day before the tour saying that breakfast and lunch bento would be provided, but the application indicated that I would need to prepare my own meals, which left me a bit confused.

Additionally, I would appreciate it if essential items like folding umbrellas and portable toilets were clearly listed as required.

日頃デスクワークで、出発前の数週間は風邪気味だったこともあり、ツアー直前にキャンセルしようかとかなり悩みました。
北アルプスの登山経験などはあるものの、10時間以上歩くなんて想像出来ませんでした。
しかし、ツアーに参加したお陰で一定のペースで歩く事が出来、終わった後も体調は良いままでグロッキーにはなりませんでした。
本当に楽しかったです。

朝食と昼食のお弁当が用意できる、とツアー前日にお電話を頂きましたが、申し込みの際には自分で用意しなくてはいけないような表記だったので少し戸惑いました。

また、折りたたみ傘や携帯トイレが必須の持ち物ならばそのように記載して欲しいと思います。

When I called the Matsubanda transportation reservation number, the male operator always told me that it was fully booked (including the days before and after). However, I was able to make a reservation anytime through this site. Even on the days I was told it was fully booked (weekdays), there were only about eight participants on the day itself. I wonder if the phone operator just said it was full because handling reservations over the phone was a hassle? The bus also arrived 10 minutes late. Yakushima has a laid-back vibe that seems impossible in the city. It allows you to forget the rush of daily life and refresh both body and mind.

But I had a great time with the local guide, a woman who was born and raised in Yakushima, as she shared various stories about the island. The weather forecast was striking, with a 100% chance of rain on the day, but we didn’t encounter any rain. The climate (temperature, wind speed) varies greatly from east to west and north to south in Yakushima. Even when it’s sunny, an umbrella is necessary. She also explained that the underwater hot springs are used by locals as their home baths, so swimsuits are prohibited, which isn’t mentioned in guidebooks.

The bus driver was amazing. He skillfully maneuvered the large bus on the narrow roads of the Western Forest Road. When encountering a rental car, he would back the bus up or instruct the other driver to back up a bit while turning the steering wheel to fit into the gap. I thought his driving skills were incredible.

Overall, while the phone reservation process was frustrating with the constant message of being fully booked (even when other travelers said there were openings on the days before and after), I found it easy to make a reservation online, so I recommend online booking. The local bus guide was entertaining, and the driver was excellent, ensuring a safe journey. They also provided transportation to our accommodation, and I would definitely recommend this experience to my friends.

まつばんだ交通予約番号に電話掛けたら、電話応対の男性からは常に満席(前後日含め)と告げられるも、このサイトから予約するといつでも予約可能です。満席とか告げられた日(平日)も当日はガラガラで参加者は８名程。
電話応対での受付が面倒で満席って言っちゃったのかなぁ？バスの朝迎えも10分遅れ。都会ではあり得なさそうなノンビリした屋久島。時間に追われる生活忘れさせられ心身リフレッシュ出来ます。

でも生まれも育ちも屋久島のお姉さんガイドさんが屋久島の事について色々なエピソード交えながら語って戴き、楽しく過ごせました。
天気予報が印象的でして当日降水確率100％でしたが、雨に遭遇せず。屋久島は東西南北で気候(気温、風速)がまるで違う。晴れでも傘は必要なんだとか。海中温泉も地元民が家の風呂として使ってるから水着禁止とかガイドブックに書いてない説明もしてくれました。

バス運転手さんが凄い。西部林道の狭い道を大きなバスを巧みに操り、対向車のレンタカーに遭遇したら バスをバックさせたり、対向車のドライバーに少しバックしてここの隙間にハンドルを右回転させながら入れて等細かく指示。
凄い運転技術と思いました。

総体的には電話予約の際の電話応対は前述の通り常に何処も満席と告げられるも(他の旅行者に聞いても前後日どこも空きあり)、ネットでは簡単に予約出来たのでネット予約がオススメ。地元のバスガイドさんの案内で話が面白かった。凄い運転手さんで道中安心で、宿泊の宿に送迎してくれるし友達にもオススメしたい位良かったです。

I really enjoyed learning about the island.
I also had time to take photos.

I would like to visit Yakusugi Land again personally.

The only disappointing thing was getting stuck in traffic due to the relay marathon.

一つ残念だったのは、駅伝大会の渋滞にハマったことくらいです。

A few years ago, I viewed the Yakusugi trees in pouring rain, so this time, I was excited just to have clear weather. The trolley tracks were easier to walk on, and it seemed like there were more rest areas. Because of that, I was able to sit down and have lunch. The weather was nice, so at the places where spring water could be drawn, I enjoyed filling my water bottle.

Even though I was wearing familiar shoes, I started to feel pain in the soles of my feet early on. The guide quickly addressed the issue and continued to support me, allowing me to fully enjoy the Yakusugi trees. I truly felt that the prompt response was what enabled me to walk on my own until the end. I am really grateful for all the help. Thanks to the support from everyone on the tour, it became a wonderful memory. Thank you very much.

数年前は土砂降りの雨の中で、屋久杉を眺めたので、今回は、晴天に恵まれたので、それだけでもテンションは上がりました。トロッコの線路道も歩きやすくなっており、休憩所も増えていたような気がします。そのため座って昼食を取る事が出来ました。天気が良いので、湧き水が汲める場所では、水筒に入れて楽しむ事もできました。

　歩き馴れた靴だったのに、前半早い段階で足の裏に痛みが出始めてしまった時も、ガイドさんには早急な対処をして頂き、その後ずっとフォローをして頂き、しっかり屋久杉を見る事が出来ました。自力で最後まで歩けたのは、対応の早さだと痛感しております。本当にお世話になりました。そしてツアーの皆さんのサポートのおかげだと感謝しております。ありがとうございました。大変良い思い出になりました。

In conclusion, I think the tour of Shiratani Unsuikyo has its pros and cons. If you can reach Jomon Sugi, I believe you can easily get to Taiko Rock without a guide.

The advantages are:
1. The guide manages the pace, allowing you to walk with peace of mind.
2. You can hear explanations from the guide.

The disadvantages are:
1. While the guide manages the pace, you cannot explore at your own speed. For example, if you want to take a closer look at Yakusugi, you have to follow the guide once they start.
2. You cannot choose your preferred route. In my case, I wanted to walk the Bugyosugi Course and Yayoi Sugi Course, but I couldn't see them as the tour did not go through those routes both ways.

Based on the above, I think it would be good to consider whether to participate in the tour.

　結論から言いますと、白谷雲水峡のツアーは一長一短だと思います。縄文杉まで行けた人であれば、太鼓岩までガイドなしで十分行けると思います。
　長所は、
①ガイドがペース配分してくれるので、安心して歩ける。
②ガイドから説明が聞ける。
　短所は、
①ガイドがペース配分してくれる代わりに、自分のペースで見学することもできない。例えば、屋久杉をもう少しよく見たいと思っても、ガイドが出発したらついて行かなければなりません。
②自分の好きなルートを選べない。私の場合、奉行杉コース・弥生杉コースも歩きたかったのですが、往復ともにそれらのコースを通らなかったので見学できませんでした。
　以上より、ツアーに参加するかどうかを検討されるとよいと思います。

The trekking participants were mostly beginners, but the guide's pace for walking and resting was well-balanced. The weather was clear from morning until evening, so the views of the forest were fantastic.

トレッキングは参加者はほとんど初心者でしたが、ガイドさんの歩く、休暇のペース配分がよかったです。
朝から夕方まで晴天でしたので森の眺めは最高でした。

I decided to hire a private guide so as not to inconvenience the young people. The guide, who is from the local area, was knowledgeable about the island's history and kept the conversation engaging, allowing us to get through the experience without getting bored. I was able to see the beautiful scenery, feel it with my skin, and expand the information I heard in my mind, creating a wonderful moment of inspiration.

若い人に迷惑かける訳にいかないと貸切ガイドにしました。地元出身のガイドさんで島の歴史など話題豊富で、退屈せず何とか乗り越えられました。ステキな景色を目で見て、肌で感じて、耳で聞いた情報を頭の中でふくらませ、素晴らしい感動のひと時を過ごす事が出来ました。

I arrived at Yakushima Airport just before noon and participated in a half-day plan in the afternoon.

After taking a taxi to the destination, as soon as I got out of the car, the air felt cool and refreshing.

The 50-minute walking course through the Jomon Sugi and Yakusugi Land was just the right amount of exercise for someone like me, who hardly moves my body except for commuting.

The guide accompanied us along the course, teaching us about the magnificent Yakusugi and other plants unique to Yakushima. I also had the chance to see Yakuzaru and Yakushika from the car on the way back, which made for wonderful memories.

The next day, I joined a more serious trekking tour, but I was so focused on watching my footing and it was quite physically demanding that I didn't have the energy to enjoy the scenery and plants (laughs). So, this half-day tour was just right for my physical condition!

当日の昼前に屋久島空港着で、午後半日プランに参加しました。
タクシーで目的地まで登り、車を降りたとたん、空気がひんやり、澄んだ感じでした。
紀元杉とヤクスギランド５０分散策コースは、普段、通勤以外はほとんど体を動かさない自分にはちょうどいい運動量でした。
ガイドさんがコースをいっしょに案内してくださり、立派な屋久杉をはじめ、屋久島特有の植物なども教えてくださり、行き帰りの車内からですが、ヤクザルやヤクシカを見れたので、とても良い思い出になりました。
翌日に別の本格的なトレッキングツアーにも参加したのですが、足元に注意するのに必死＆体力的にもけっこうきつく風景や植物を愛でる余裕が無かったので（笑）、この半日ツアーが自分の体力的にはちょうど良かったです!

I was worried about my physical stamina, but I was able to enjoy trekking until the end. The guide and the team were kind and fun, and they informed us about dangerous areas along the way, which made me feel safe. They also shared knowledge about Yakushima, stretching methods, and ways to minimize fatigue. The scenery was beautiful, the atmosphere was great, and I was able to fully enjoy my trip without overexerting myself. Thank you very much.

体力など不安でしたが、最後まで楽しくトレッキングできました。
ガイドさんもチームの方も優しく楽しく、道中危ない場所は教えてもらい安心ですし、屋久島知識やストレッチ方法や疲れが残りにくい方法など教えてくれました。
景色良く、雰囲気良く、無理なく、旅行を満喫できました。

They came to pick me up by car at the accommodation. I communicated directly over the phone, and the start time was moved up, so we began earlier. The trek ended up being quicker than I imagined, lasting about two hours. They provided a brief explanation about Yakushima and took some photos for me. If I had to say anything, I would have preferred to trek a bit more or spend more time at the sights since it ended early, but I wanted to return early, so it turned out well in the end.

車で宿まで迎えに来てくれました。
直接、電話でやりとりをして、始まりの時間が早まって、スタートしました。
想像以上に早く終わって、トレッキングは二時間程度。
簡単な屋久島についての説明や、写真撮影などしてもらいました。
強いていうなら、早く終わるならもう少しトレッキングしたり、名所でゆっくりしたかったですが、早く帰りたかったので結果的に良かったです。

▼Impressions
I finally got to meet Jomon Sugi, which I have admired for many years! I was very happy. The trolley path is about 8 km, and the mountain trail is just over 2 km, but overall there are hardly any ups and downs, and the paths are well-maintained, so the mountain trail wasn't as tough as I had expected. However, it did take just over 10 hours round trip (with breaks of 5 minutes every 1-2 hours and about 15 minutes for meals three times), so I felt quite fatigued afterward.

▼Sorry, the guide was not great (T_T)
There are three reasons:
1. The voice was too quiet, and only the people in front could hear. (One guide is assigned for every 7-8 people.)
2. The guide was too focused on time and not paying attention to individuals.
→ Even if some people were not ready or were running late, the guide would just move on without waiting. Since we were thinking about returning in 10 hours, time was prioritized! If you want a guide, it might be better to look for a private guide that can be used for groups of two or more.
3. Please stop making jokes at people's expense.
→ We want to feel the long, rich history of Yakushima and Yakusugi, so we are willing to pay a bit more for a guide to learn more deeply. Therefore, there's no need to force humor. Women can be sensitive about aspects like age and appearance, and it's not considerate to poke fun at those.

There are companies with 140 registered guides, so it might be hard to say this company is definitely the best! I wanted to know more about Ishizuka's life in the mountains. Next time, I plan to do my own research and take my time exploring.

▼What I liked
There is a spot along the way where you can enter a beautiful emerald green stream. It is very pretty. This seems to be a hidden gem, so I’m glad I hired a guide!

▼Advice
- For popular spots like Wilson's Cedar, I recommend taking your time to take photos on the way back!
→ On the way there, people are lined up, so you can only glance and take quick shots, but on the way back, the crowd spreads out a bit, allowing for more opportunities to take photos, like two-shots.

- A guide is not necessary!
→ There are many tourists and guides walking around. Since they all follow the same path, there will always be a guide at the points of interest. If you book a tour, you can't choose your guide, so the experience can vary quite a bit, but walking while listening to a guide you like along the way is more interesting and enjoyable!

Overall, it was a fun yet slightly bittersweet Yakusugi trekking tour.

長年憧れていた縄文杉。
念願叶ってやっとご対面！大変嬉しかったです。
トロッコ道が8km程で山道が2kmちょっとですが、全体的にアップダウンは殆ど無く、道も整備されていますし、山道も同様で思っていたほど辛くなかったです。
ただ往復10時間ちょっと（休憩5分/1〜2時間、ご飯休含み15分×3回程度のペース)は掛かりましたので、その分の疲労感は終わった後にドシッときました。


▼すみません。ガイドはイマイチでした( T_T)
理由は3つ。
1.声が小さく、前の人しか話が聞こえないこと。
(7〜8人に1人のガイドが付きます。)
2.時間を気にして個々にまで目が向いていないこと。
→準備が終わってない人や遅れてる人がいても"まあいいや"で先に先に進みます。誰かを待つことはありません。
10時間で戻ることを考えているので、時間優先です！
ガイドを付けるなら、2名以上なら利用できるプライベートガイドを検索して良いかも。
3.人を弄って笑いを取るのはやめましょう。
→私達は、屋久島の土地や屋久杉が持つ長い長い歴史を感じたいので、少しでも深く知るために少しばかり高くてもガイドを依頼しています。
ですので、無理して笑いを取らなくても問題ありません。
女性は年齢や外見など変えのきかない部分を弄られるのはデリカシーが無くて苦手です。

ガイドは一つの会社で140名の登録者が居るところもあるので、まだこの会社がいい！とは中々言えないのかもしれません。
山の中で暮らしていた石塚の話とかもっと深く知りたかったですね。
次回は自分で調べて、じっくり見て回ろうと思います。

道の途中に一箇所、エメラルドグリーンの沢の方へ入れるスポットがあります。ここがとても綺麗。
ここは知る人ぞ知る場所らしいので、ガイドを依頼して良かった点でした！

▼アドバイス
・ウィルソン杉など人気スポットは帰り道にゆっくり写真を撮るのがオススメ！
→行きは人が並んで待っているので流し見&流し撮り程度になりますが、帰路だと少し人がバラけるので、ツーショットなど写真を撮る余裕がありました。

・ガイドは不要！
→観光客&ガイドが沢山歩いています。
同じ道を進むので、ポイントには必ずガイドさんが居ます。
ツアー依頼をするとガイドは選べないので当たり外れがかなりありますが、道中に気に入ったガイドさんの話を少し聞きながら歩く方が面白いし楽しい！

以上、楽しくもちょっぴり苦い、屋久杉トレッキングツアーでした。

I participated alone, but I was blessed with good weather, great companions, and an excellent guide, which made for a very enjoyable time. I was also happy that we took our time at the shooting points since I wanted to take pictures of moss.

This isn't a personal experience, but just one thing. When I asked acquaintances whether Shiratani Unsuikyo was suitable for beginners, many people assured me that even children and the elderly could manage it, which made me feel comfortable about participating. However, I felt that those who do not exercise at all or get out of breath after climbing two or three flights of stairs should reconsider joining. I desperately tried to keep up with my companions to avoid being a burden, but afterward, I could hardly move for days, and ultimately, I ended up with fluid in my knee and had to see an orthopedic specialist for a while...

一人での参加でしたが、天候、同行者さん、ガイドさんに恵まれ、大変楽しい時間を過ごしました。
コケの写真が撮りたかったので、撮影ポイント等ではゆっくり時間を取っていただけたのも嬉しかったです。

体験談ではないのですが、ひとつだけ。
白谷雲水峡は初心者でも大丈夫かと知人らに聞いて回った際に、子供や老人でも大丈夫！と多くの人から言われ安心して参加しましたが、普段全く運動しない人や階段を２〜３階まで登ると息切れがするような人は参加を見合わせたほうが良いと感じました。同行の方々に迷惑をかけないようにと必死について行きましたが翌日以降ろくに動けず、挙げ句、膝に水が溜まってしばらく整形外科の世話になることに………

I was able to see a wonderful view on a clear day! The tour guide was also very experienced, and I learned a lot of interesting facts about the mountains! Thank you. If you go to Shiratani Unsuikyo, I recommend going all the way to Taiko Rock.

I think I was able to push through to the end because I participated in the tour for my first trekking experience. The guide was very humorous and shared various stories and explanations throughout the journey. The pace was a bit fast, but I understood that it was necessary to complete it in 10 hours, so for those who want to challenge themselves at their own pace, I think having a personal guide would be better. Since they consider the needs of each individual, I recommend getting a guide for anyone who feels even a little anxious.

初めてのトレッキングで、ツアーに参加したからこそ最後まで頑張れたと思います。
ガイドの方もとてもユーモアのある方で、終始説明を始め様々なお話をしてくれました。
ペースは早めですが、あれで10時間なのでしかたないとわかり、自分のペースで挑戦したい方は個人ガイドの方が良いと思います。
一人一人に合った対応を考えてくれるので少しでも不安な方はガイドをつけることをお勧めします。

At first, I was nervous, but I really had a great time!
Our guide, Taiyo Yokota, was amazing!
He knew so much and was such a bright and energetic person; I had a lot of fun.
When I go trekking again, I definitely want to request him!
The miso soup he made for us during lunch was really delicious.

I think those who are going soon can go with peace of mind.
Besides the bento, I think it's good to bring snacks like chocolate, but having something you can eat while walking, like in your pocket, is convenient.
Eating during breaks is nice too; while Calorie Mate is good, eating your favorite snacks makes walking more enjoyable and energizing!

最初は緊張していたけど、ほんっとに楽しく行ってこれました！

いろいろ知ってるし、明るく元気な方で、すごく楽しませていただきました。

お昼休憩でいれてくれたお味噌汁、本当においしかったです。

これから行かれる方も、安心して行けると思います。
お弁当以外に、チョコなど持っていかれると思いますが、ポケットに入れて歩きながら食べられるものは便利でしたよ。
休憩で食べるのも、カロリーメイトもいいけど好きなお菓子を食べる方が楽しく元気に歩けますよ！
これから行かれる方も、どうぞ楽しんでください！

訪問中は少し急いでいる時間がありましたが、コースはとても良かったです。ランチは普通でしたが、日本語があまり得意でない方のためにガイドブックが用意されています。

Although time is a little bit hurry during the visit, the course is very good. Lunch is normal, guide books are provided for people who do not know Japanese well.

I had never experienced trekking in my life, so I was anxious from the preparation stage. However, I researched various sites and made sure to prepare thoroughly, so I was able to take on the challenge without any issues.

It was great that I brought plenty of snacks (Calorie Mate, kaki-pi ← good salt content, Snickers, cereal bars, candy).

After actually experiencing it, I was confident in my physical strength, but yes, I underestimated it. I went to bed before 8 PM the night before, and I was in perfect condition both mentally and physically, but I was much more exhausted than I had imagined.

However! The emotions I felt were incredibly profound! I was healed by the trees and nature along the way, and fortunately, I was able to see some animals, which left me in awe the entire time!

I live surrounded by a lot of information every day, but having this experience in a place where there was no signal allowed me to spend time reflecting on myself, which was really great. I felt once again that I should create more opportunities to connect with nature.

人生で1度もトレッキングを経験したことがなかったので、準備の段階から不安でした。
ですが、持ち物は色々なサイトなどで調べ、しっかり準備を整え不備なく挑めました。

おやつも多めに持って行ったのはよかったです(カロリーメイト、柿ピー←塩分◎ スニッカーズ、シリアルバー、飴)

実際体験して、まず体力には自信があったのですが、はい、ナメていました。。
前日も20時前には就寝し、心も体も万全の状態で挑んだのですが、想像していた以上にすごく疲れました。


が！その分の感動は計り知れないくらい大きかったです！道中の木々や自然には癒され、幸い動物達にも会うことが出来、終始感動しっぱなしでした！

日々沢山の情報に囲まれて生きていますが、電波の届かない所でこういった経験をし、自分と向き合う時間がつくれて、すごく良かったです。
こういう自然と触れ合う時間を作るべきだなと改めて感じました。

I participated alone as a woman. I had never experienced mountain climbing before, but I was confident in my physical strength, so it was not a problem! The guide regularly checked everyone's condition and adjusted the pace for the whole group, which was reassuring. During the lunch break, the guide served us miso soup... it was delicious! Thank you for the treat!

女子ひとりでの参加でした。一度も山登りを経験したことはないですが体力には自信があったため問題なかったです！
ガイドさんは、グループのみんなの状況を随時チェックして、全員のペースを合わせるなどして安心でした。
お昼休憩、ガイドさんからお味噌汁をいただき……美味しかったです！ご馳走さまでした！

I participated in a morning-only tour, and I really enjoyed it! The guide explained various histories and characteristics of the town, including places that I didn't think much of when I drove through them myself. I was also satisfied to see wild monkeys and deer! Since I needed to catch the 1 PM ferry, the guide was attentive to that, which made me feel at ease. I'm glad I used this tour!

However, there was an issue with the operations leading up to the tour. Even though I had informed the tour company via email about needing to catch the ferry, it wasn't communicated to the guide during the phone confirmation the day before, and I had to explain it multiple times. I was quite worried because if I missed the ferry, I would also miss my return flight.

午前中のみのツアーに参加したのですが、自分たちで車で通った時にはなんとも思わなかった場所も含めて、ガイドさんが色々な歴史や町の特長を説明してくれてとても楽しめました！
野生のサルや鹿も見れて満足です！
午後13時のフェリーに乗る必要があったため、ガイドさんも気にかけてくれて安心出来ました！
このツアーを利用して良かったです！

ただ、ツアー参加までのオペレーションに問題があり、フェリーに乗ることをメールでツアー会社に伝えていたのに、前日の電話確認の方にもガイドさんにも伝わっていなく、何度も説明しなくてはいけなかったのが、フェリーを逃してしまうと、帰りの飛行機にも間に合わなくなっていまうためかなり心配になりました。

I participated with my mother!
It was tough to wake up early in the morning, but it was worth it!
There were six of us: the two of us, a group of three women, and our guide. The guide explained the attractions at various points, adjusted the pace for us, and took photos, which made us very satisfied.
I will never forget the view when the sun came out while we were climbing the mountain, with the morning sunlight streaming in.
One thing I was unhappy about was when the tour company called the day before and complained that we hadn’t called them, and even though I rented a flashlight because they said it was necessary, we didn’t use it at all, and the guide didn’t mention needing it either.

母と二人で参加しました！
早朝で起きるのが大変でしたが、それだけの価値がありました！
私たち二人と、女性3人組、ガイドさんの6人でしたが、ガイドさんが所々で魅力を説明して下さり、ペースも合わせながら登り、写真も撮って頂いてとても満足でした。
山を登っている途中に太陽が出てきて、朝日が差し込んでいる景色は忘れられません。
1つ、前日にツアー会社から電話をもらった際に、こちらから電話をしなかったことを文句言われたことと、懐中電灯が要ると電話で言われ追加でレンタルしたのに全く使用せず、ガイドさんも必要と言っていなかった点が不満でした。

As a beginner in mountain climbing, this was my first solo trip to Yakushima, and I was welcomed right at the airport. They provided fitting for my shoes and explained everything thoroughly. In the morning, I was able to comfortably take a dedicated bus to the trailhead. Above all, the fellow participants in the climbing tour with the experienced guide were wonderful people, and I was able to reach the summit without giving up. It was truly a great experience.

登山初心者で屋久島初一人旅でしたが、空港ですぐ出迎えてくれ、靴のフィッティングやもろもろ説明をして下さいました。朝も専用バスで登山口まで安心して行けました。何より、ベテランのガイドさんと一緒に登山するツアーの仲間がとても良い方々でくじける事なく登りきる事が出来ました。本当に良かったです。

Three men participated: two in their late 30s and one in his 40s. The guide was a young woman. Although she had only been a guide for a year, she provided detailed and careful explanations about the plants, the views, and the names of the mountains! The three men had very little climbing experience, but I believe we were able to progress at a surprisingly fast pace thanks to the guide. The information about the remaining distance, landmarks, and the location of restrooms made a huge difference compared to climbing on our own. We descended earlier than planned, so we were able to spend some relaxing time at a secret spot recommended by the guide. To put it plainly, it was the best trip ever!

30代後半2名、40代1名　男3名で参加。
ガイドさんは若い女性の方でした。　まだガイド歴1年との事でしたが、植物や見える景色、山の名前など細かく丁寧に説明して頂けました！
男3名、登山経験はほとんど無かったのですが、意外とハイペースで進めたのもガイドさんのおかげだと思います。　残り距離や目印、トイレの位置など、自分たちだけで登山するのとガイドさんをつけるのでは、全然違う登山になったと思います。
予定より早く下山してきたので、ガイドさんおすすめの秘密のポイントでまったりとした時間を過ごすこともできました。
はっきり言って、最高の旅になりました！

I had some concerns about my physical stamina, but I participated with my classmates. We were blessed with good weather and a great guide, making for a more fulfilling experience than I expected. The tramway was well-maintained and easy to walk on. The large tree path was a bit tough for my out-of-shape body at times, but I was able to manage it with the guide's advice. The Jomon Sugi, which we aimed to see, was of course amazing, but the several Yakusugi trees and the views of Mount Kuju and Mount Miyanoura from the tree gaps also lifted my spirits. The fact that this tour goes directly to the Arakawa Trailhead is a big plus. Just keep in mind that the weather is a matter of luck.

体力的には、少し不安もありましたが、同級生と参加しました。
天気とガイドさんにも恵まれ、予想以上の充実した時間でした。
トロッコ道は整備され歩き易かったです。
大株歩道は、運動不足気味の体にはきつい場面もありましたが、ガイドさんの助言でクリアできました。
目的の縄文杉はもちろん素晴らしかったですが、その前のいくつかの屋久杉や樹間から見える翁岳や宮之浦岳も気分を盛り上げてくれました。
このツアーは、荒川登山口まで直通というのも、ポイント高いですよ。
ただ天気だけは運次第なので、ご留意ください。
