I wanted to see the moss forest that is said to have inspired Princess Mononoke with my own eyes, so I joined this tour. It was a round trip of six hours. The day I participated was the last day of Golden Week, and surprisingly, I was the only participant! I got to have the guide all to myself. Thanks to that, I was able to hear a lot of stories, and it was very educational. Unfortunately, the summit was completely white, and I couldn't see anything, but on the way down, the thick fog created a very mystical and mysterious world that I felt I had entered. Next time I climb, I hope to enjoy the view from the top as well.

もののけ姫のモデルになったと言われる苔の森が自分の目で見たくなり、このツアーに参加しました。往復6時間のコースです。
参加した日はGWの最終日で、なんと参加者は私1人！
ガイドさんを独り占めできました(^^)
お陰でたくさんの話しが聞けて、とても勉強になりました。
残念なことに頂上は真っ白で何も見えなかったけど、下山中は濃霧のお陰でとても神秘的で不思議な世界に入り込んだ感覚になりました。
今度登る時は頂上の景色も楽しみたいと思います。

Before turning 64, I decided to take on a challenge. Continuing my morning one-hour brisk walking training, I finally got to meet the Jomon Sugi, and the sense of accomplishment was incredible. I was fortunate to have a great tour guide and wonderful companions, and even as a solo participant, I felt a strong sense of unity. It was tough, but it turned out to be the best experience. The miso soup for lunch was also incredibly delicious. Thank you very much.

64歳を前に思いきって挑戦させて頂きました。毎朝1時間の早歩きトレーニングを続け念願の縄文杉に逢うことができた際の達成感は最高でした。ツアーガイドの方、同行者のみなさんに恵まれソロ参加でも十分に一体感を味わえきつかったけど最高の体験となりました。昼食の味噌汁もメチャ美味しかったです。有り難うございました。

It was my first time going to Yakushima and hiking as well. The guide provided detailed explanations, shared interesting facts about the Yakusugi trees, and recounted past experiences, while also informing us about the manners and rules we needed to be mindful of while hiking. I felt reassured knowing that we received support that would have been lacking if I had gone alone. The pace was adjusted to accommodate those who were slower, and seeing the guide pick up litter made me truly feel that they were working for the benefit of Yakushima. I had a wonderful time!

屋久島に行くのも登山をするのも初めてでした。ガイドさんからの細かい説明や、屋久杉の豆知識や今までの体験談などの楽しい部分もありながら登山するうえでのマナーやルールなど気をつけなければいけないことも伝えてくれました。個人で行くには足りないものをいただくことができ安心して登ることができました。ペースも遅い方にあわせてくれたり、落ちているゴミを拾ったりする姿を見て本当に屋久島のために働かれてるんだとみてわかった気がします。本当に楽しかったです！

The Jomon Sugi trekking tour was amazing! ☺️ There were rentals available for shoes, raincoats, and backpacks, which were more than enough for my first trekking experience! The guide for the Jomon Sugi tour was also a wonderful person who taught us a lot about Yakushima and the Yakusugi trees! Thanks to them, we were all able to see Jomon Sugi together!

The weather was great, and the guide's stories were so interesting that the time flew by. At important spots, we stopped to hear more and took photos, which made me very satisfied!

The day before, due to heavy rain, the Arakawa Junction to the Arakawa Trailhead was closed, and the planned Jomon Sugi trekking tour was canceled. On the day of the tour, the rain stopped in the early hours, and it cleared up beautifully. The water levels were moderately abundant, allowing us to cross the streams without any issues. A gentle breeze blew through the forest, and sunlight filtered through the trees where water dripped from the moss, allowing us to fully enjoy the beautiful scenery of Shiratani Unsuikyo.

At Taiko Rock, it was also sunny, and we could clearly see Mount Miyanoura, Mount Kurio, and Mount Taichu. Our guide, who was originally from the Kanto region and had moved to Yakushima, humorously explained the differences in the natural environment, flora and fauna, and the lifestyle patterns of people from Kanto and Yakushima. He also discussed Hayao Miyazaki's works in relation to Yakushima's nature and various locations for celebrity music video shoots.

His camera work was skillful, capturing great shots that highlighted the features of each point. Overall, the pace was relaxed, so while we did get tired, we weren't exhausted and were able to return to the starting point in good spirits. The weather was perfect, and the guide provided an exceptional experience.

前日は豪雨のため荒川三叉路から荒川登山口が通行止めとなり、予定していた縄文杉トレッキングツアーが中止になりました。
当日は、夜半に雨があがりきれいに晴れたので、水量もほどほどに豊富ながら沢を渡るのに支障もなく、森の中はそよ風が吹き、苔を水が滴るところに木漏れ日が差し、白谷雲水峡の綺麗な景色を満喫させてもらいました。
太鼓岩でも晴れていたので、宮之浦岳、栗生岳や太忠岳もはっきり見えました。
ガイドさんは関東出身で屋久島に移住された方でしたが、屋久島の自然環境や動植物、関東と屋久島人々の生活パターンからくる感じ方の違い、宮崎駿作品と屋久島の自然、芸能人のPVロケ現場など、ユーモアを交えて解説して下さいました。
カメラワークも巧みで各ポイントの特徴に合わせてとてもいいショットを撮って頂きました。
全般にゆったりとしたペース配分で案内して頂いたので、もちろん疲れはしましたがヘトヘトでもなく、いい気分で出発点まで帰れました。
天候も完璧、ガイドさんも最高の極上の体験でした。

Is this a common occurrence in Yakushima (are the locals used to it)? There was an incident with a flight cancellation (wait, really?!). We changed our plans from arriving the day before and being picked up from the hotel for a morning tour to arriving in Yakushima at 10:55 and then fitting and picking up rental shoes at the airport. We called to change our pickup from the tour company in front of the airport to 11:40 for the afternoon tour (we can go right after we arrive! Surprising). Since the other participants (two groups totaling four people) had no further plans, our guide took the time to show us around for five hours (the afternoon tour might be a better deal). The guide also took about 70 photos for us (amazing!). The Kodama doll was provided by the guide.

屋久島あるあるなのかな（現地の人は慣れっこなのかな）？飛行機が欠航というアクシデント（えっ、まじ！）、前日入島&翌朝ホテルピックアップ（午前ツアー）から変更して、屋久島10:55到着後に空港にてレンタル靴合わせ&受け取り、空港前のツアー屋さん11:40ピックアップ（午後ツアー）に電話相談で変更（到着すぐに行けるんや！びっくり）。参加者の皆さん（2組計4名）に次の予定がないことからガイドさんが5時間かけてゆっくり案内してくれました（午後ツアーの方がお得かも）。写真もガイドさんが合計約70枚も撮ってくれました（すご！）。こだま人形はガイドさんが用意してくれたものです。

We participated as a couple over the age of 60. It was a tour with six people, and it seemed like they gathered individuals of similar levels. The guide shared interesting stories here and there, which made the journey to Jomon Sugi easier. It was great to hear timely information on-site while seeing the actual sights. I'm glad I joined the tour.

I lost 2 kg after the tour, which is an added benefit.

There were troubles with our flight to Yakushima being canceled, and the next day had bad weather, but thanks to the advice from Yamamuro of Yakushima Tour Operations, we were able to have a memorable trip. Thank you very much.

還暦過ぎの夫婦で参加。6人のツアーでしたが同じようなレベルの人を揃えてあるようでした。ガイドさんのうんちくある話が所々あり、縄文杉までの行程を楽にさせてくれたかと思います。現地でタイムリーに話をききながら実物を目にする。ツアーに参加してよかったです。
ツアー後の体重はー２ｋｇでした、これもおまけの利点です。
屋久島往路の飛行機が欠航、翌日は悪天候とトラブル続きでしたが、

I couldn't go to the moss-covered area due to the heavy rain, but I enjoyed the guide's extensive knowledge. I felt relaxed surrounded by the moss and trees. I realized that nature is always accompanied by danger. Thank you very much!!

I participated with my elderly parents. The guide was very considerate throughout the journey, providing helpful advice to avoid fatigue and clearly explaining how to use the walking stick. The accompanying members were also a pleasant couple. Thank you very much.

The round trip was 22 kilometers, with an elevation gain of 700 meters, taking 10 hours, and it was quite rainy. This was a concern for me, being over 60, and for my wife, who is just under 60. However, thanks to the tour guide's appropriate pacing, breaks, and conversations with other participants, we weren't as exhausted as we had feared. We were able to fully enjoy the powerful and mysterious beauty of the Yakusugi forest. Additionally, we had the unique opportunity to learn about the origins of names like Jomon Sugi and Wilson stump, as well as the history of the discovery of Jomon Sugi, which made the tour even more enjoyable. I am grateful to the guide.

I recommend taking a tour to see Jomon Sugi. Given the heavy rain from the start of the day, if it had just been my family alone, we might have had to give up partway through.

往復22キロ、標高差700メートル、10時間、結構な雨の中の工程は60歳オーバーの私と60前の家内には不安でしたが、ツアーガイドさんの適切なペース配分と休憩、他の参加者との会話などで、思っていたほど疲労困憊することもなく、屋久杉の力強さと神秘的で美しい緑の世界を堪能できました。また、縄文杉、ウィルソン株をはじめ名前の由来、縄文杉発見の経緯などツアーならではの楽しみ方もできました。ガイドさんには感謝しています。
縄文杉見学はツアーがお勧めです。当日出だしから格好な雨もあって、家族の単独なら途中でリタイアしてたかもしれません。

I had a great time trekking while listening to various stories! It was nice to be shown good spots for taking photos. I was happy to have so many pictures taken. The pace was adjusted to suit us, so it was manageable.

I had a great time trekking while listening to various stories along the way. It was wonderful to have photos taken of both of us as well as the scenery. They quickly took care of my blisters, so I was able to walk without pain. I also enjoyed a warm drink for lunch, which was very thoughtful! I was a bit anxious since it was my first trekking experience, but it turned out to be a very good memory.

道中に色んなお話を聞きながらトレッキング出来て楽しかったです。
2人の写真はもちろん、風景も撮ってもらえてたので凄く良かったです。
靴擦れしてしまったのもすぐに対処してもらえたので、痛みなく歩けました。

As I walked among the thickening trunks of cedar trees, surrounded by giant trees represented by Jomon Sugi, I felt that humanity is still like a baby in the grand timeline of Earth's existence, and that humans are just one of the many creatures in nature. It was a very moving mountain walk.

Thanks to our guide maintaining a brisk pace to Jomon Sugi, we had a short wait for the restroom, making for a very efficient trekking experience.

On the way down, the pace slowed a bit, allowing us to take photos of Yakusugi, but I wished we could have had a little more time for photography, given the time we saved on the way up.

At the water station along the way, we had to quickly fill our bottles and leave, which created a bit of a rush (quick decisions were necessary).

That said, it allowed us to return to the trailhead early, where we could use the restroom without much waiting, and we had plenty of time before the bus departure. Overall, I was very satisfied with the tour.

If I had gone alone without joining the tour, I think I would have been tempted to stop for photos and videos everywhere, which might have prevented me from reaching Jomon Sugi or made me miss the return bus, or even led to dangerous situations at sunset. Therefore, I highly recommend participating in a guided tour led at a brisk pace.

山深く進むにつれて幹が太くなる杉に囲まれ、縄文杉に代表される巨木の間を歩いていると、地球誕生から見ると人類はまだまだ赤ちゃん、人間は自然の中の生き物のひとつだと感じます　とても感動した山歩きでした

ガイドさんがハイペースで縄文杉まで進んでくださったので、トイレでの順番待ちが短く済み、とても効率的なトレッキングになりました

下りでは少しペースを落としてくれて、屋久杉を撮影することもできましたが、行きのハイペースで稼いだ時間の分、もう少し撮影時間をとって欲しかったと感じました

途中の水汲み場も水を汲むやいなやの出発で、迷っていたら汲むことができない慌ただしさ（即断即決が必要）でした

とは言え、そのおかげで登山口に早く戻って来れたので、そこでのトイレもあまり並ばずに利用でき、バスの発車まで余裕があり、全体的には大満足のツアー参加でした

ツアーに参加せずに単独で行っていたならば、写真や動画を撮りたくなるところばかりなので、前に進めず、縄文杉まで行かずに折り返しとなるか、帰りのバスに間に合わなくなるか、日没になって危険なことになる、そんなことになっていたように思うので、ガイドさんのハイペースに先導されるツアー参加はお薦めだと思います

I was worried about whether I could complete the trek, but I was able to enjoy trekking at a relaxed pace that took into account the fitness levels of the participants. We were able to take photos at all the scenic spots. Additionally, they provided a figure of Kodama, allowing us to capture photos that suited the mossy forest perfectly. I had a very enjoyable time. 完歩できるかどうか心配でしたが、参加者の体力レベルを考慮して頂いたゆったりしたペースで楽しくトレッキングする事ができました。映えスポットは全てで写真撮影もできました。また、木霊のフィギュアも用意してもらい、苔むす森に相応しい写真を残す事ができました。とても楽しい時を過ごす事ができました。ありがとうございました。

- The bus was about 20 minutes late without any notice. I was told to arrive early, so waiting in the dark for over 30 minutes was unsettling. I thought it would be reassuring to have a system that allows for email communication.
- The pace of the tour was quite fast for me, which was challenging, but everyone in the group was very kind, and it really lifted my spirits. The guide was also very good at managing time, and we were able to go to the restroom smoothly at the designated points. They even prepared warm drinks for us, and I truly appreciated that they considered my pace as an older woman. Thank you so much!!
- The person from Yakushima-ya (the rental shop) who was introduced to me was very considerate, and I felt energized before going! Thank you.
- I was anxious, but I'm glad I went. The cedars that have been there for so long have an incredible presence, and I was able to recharge my energy.

・バスが連絡なしに20分ほど遅れました。早めに着くように言われていたので30分以上、暗闇で待つのは不安でした。メールでも連絡ができるシステムを導入するといろろ安心だと思いました。
・ツアーは、ペースが私には速く大変でしたがグループの皆様がとっても優しく、本当に気持ちが救われました。ガイドさんも時間配分がとっても上手でトイレもポイント箇所でもスムーズにいけました。私たちの暖かい飲み物まで用意してくださり、私のようなおばさんのペース配分も考慮していただき本当にありがとうございました！！

It was more challenging than I expected, but the sense of accomplishment is incredible!! At one point, crossing a bridge without handrails was psychologically terrifying, but thanks to the guidance of our experienced guide, I was able to move forward safely. Although I was traveling alone as a woman, I was able to interact with the other members I was with, and even though it was a very tough hike, I had a great time participating.

予想以上に過酷でしたが、達成感が半端ないです！！途中、手すりのない橋を渡る事が心理的に恐怖だったのですが、ベテランガイドさんの誘導もあり、無事に歩みを進めることが出来ました。女性の一人旅でしたが、ご一緒した他のメンバーとも交流させていだきながら、(大変キツイ登山ではありましたが)楽しく参加することが出来ました。

I was worried because I had terrible muscle pain from the Jomon Sugi trekking the day before, but I was able to experience it safely. The fantastical scenery of the moss-covered forest, which is different from the Jomon Sugi course, was truly wonderful!! (I completely fell in love with the charm of the moss.) The guide was a veteran, which made me feel at ease, and the people I was with were kind, making it a great memory.

前日の縄文杉トレッキングで酷い筋肉痛になり不安でしたが、無事に体験することが出来ました。縄文杉コースとはまた違った、苔むす森の幻想的な景色は、本当に素晴らしかったです！！(すっかり苔の魅力にはまってしまいました)ガイドさんもベテランの方で安心でしたし、ご一緒した方々も優しく、良い思い出になりました。

I was very glad to rent everything. I received beautiful and cute items. I think proper gear is essential for first-time mountain climbers.

However, even though I arranged for the rental items to be sent directly to the hotel (with shipping paid), they had not arrived by the day before the climb, and they still hadn't arrived by 8:00 PM on the day of the climb. I caused some worry for the hotel staff, but around 9:00 PM, a staff member brought them directly to me. I wonder about this, especially since I paid for shipping. I think the items should arrive the day before so that I can go to bed early.

As for the guide, I have no complaints. They taught us a lot of interesting facts, including the names of various trees and mountains. Thanks to that, the monotonous journey felt like it passed quickly.

I was anxious about whether I could reach the summit, so I opted for a private tour, and that was a good choice. It was fun to stop and take detours freely.

The weather was quite good, and it didn't rain at all, which made the journey not too difficult. If it had rained, the footing might have been a bit scary.

すべてレンタルしてよかったです。綺麗で可愛いもの貸していただきました。山登り初めての方は装備必須だと思います。
ただ、レンタル品をホテルに直送(送料支払い)にしたのに登山前日にも関わらず届いておらず、結局当日20：00過ぎても届きませんでした。ホテルの方にも心配かけてお騒がせしてしまいましたが、21:00ごろスタッフの方が直接持ってこられました。送料払っているのにこれはどうなのかな、と思います。早めに就寝もしたいので前日には届くべきかと思います。
ガイドに関しては文句なしです。様々な豆知識や木や山の名前等たくさん教えていただきました。そのおかけで単調な道のりもあっという間に過ぎた気がします。
登頂？できるか不安で貸切にしましたが、それもよかったです。自由に立ち止まったり寄り道したりと楽しかったです。
終始雨も降らず天候がかなり良かったせいもありますが、苦しい道のりではなかったです。雨だと少し足元が怖いかもしれません。

I was finally able to visit Yakushima, a place I had always wanted to go, and I'm glad I could make it happen even with just one day to stay. It started raining, but after that, the weather cleared up, and I enjoyed the mysterious beauty of Yakushima. The guide provided a lot of explanations, but Ms. Miyoshi, who was in charge this time, had amazing ideas for taking photos, which helped create even better memories!

いつか行ってみたかった屋久島、滞在時間が1日のみで無事開催できてよかったです。
スタート時は雨だったがその後は晴れてミステリーな屋久島も満喫。
ガイドさんが色々説明してくれるのはもちろんだけど、今回担当していただいた御調さんは写真の撮り方やアイデアがすごくて、さらにいい思い出ができた！

I started walking around 6:00 and returned to the bus around 16:30. This time, we had a group with one guide for every four people. The guide explained about the birds and plants along the way, which was great for learning. There were some tough rocky climbs, but the pace was adjusted, so it was manageable. I was very happy to be able to see Jomon Sugi without getting caught in the rain.

6:00くらいから歩き始め、バスまで戻ってきたのが16:30くらいでした。
今回は4人に1人のガイドさんがついたグループでした。
ガイドの方が道の途中鳥のことや植物のことなど説明しながら歩いてくださるので、いろいろ学べてよかったです。
途中、かなりきつい登りの岩場などもありましたが、ペースを調整してくださるのでなんとかなりました。
雨にも降られず無事縄文杉をみることができてとてもよかったです。

I was worried that I might not make it to the end since it was a long journey, but I was blessed with good weather and was able to see the magnificent Jomon Sugi with my own eyes. Seeing it in person is truly overwhelming. The day, while being healed by the streams and the green moss along the way, was a precious experience that is hard to put into words.

Although I am a trekking beginner, I believe I was able to see it safely thanks to the guide's advice and consideration. Thank you very much.

We used this service with our family during Golden Week. We were blessed with good weather. Even though the humidity was high, the climate was comfortable.

The five-hour trek in Shiratani allowed us to enjoy various landscapes, making it a completely engaging experience. The guide provided excellent explanations about the trees, birds, and flowers, and took truly dynamic photos, which made it a lot of fun. If given the chance, I would love to request the same guide again. Thank you for teaching us about the charm of Yakushima and for a truly enjoyable time.

今回ゴールデンウィークに家族で利用させて頂きました。
お天気にも恵まれるくらい恵まれてしまいました。
その為湿度が高いと言えども、過ごしやすい気候でした。

写真も本当にダイナミックに撮影して下さり凄く楽しむことが出来ました。

屋久島の魅力を教えて頂き
本当に楽しい時間を有難うございます。

The nature of Yakushima is wonderful, and we were blessed with good weather. However, I felt that the guide who accompanied us often lacked consideration for the participants.

◆ Specific examples
- The walking pace was fast, leaving no time to put away jackets or take photos. It mostly turned into a silent walk rather than enjoying nature.
- There was a brief mention of Yakushima's history and lifestyle at the beginning, but I felt there was too much focus on the guide's self-promotion and criticism of past participants.
- I received no instruction on how to tie shoelaces, use trekking poles, or tips for climbing.
- Since the guide spoke while walking, I couldn't hear what was being said when I was at the back (fourth).
- The focus was solely on keeping up with faster participants, with no concern for those lagging behind, sometimes leading to significant distance.
- Despite the particular danger of descending, we were not waited for at all, and I was left about 20 meters behind. If someone fell behind, they were not noticed. I felt it was dangerous due to the high speed of descent.
- Because the pace was too fast and there was ample time, I requested to slow down a bit, but no consideration was given afterward. In the end, I wanted to walk at the back due to a foot injury, but I was forced to walk at the front and was hurried along.
- There were no words of advice or encouragement for those who were lagging due to injuries; I was simply told to be careful not to fall behind, as it would be a problem.
- Despite having time, we only had a 15-minute lunch break, and I couldn't finish my bento.
- There were times we departed 10 minutes earlier than the stated time, which made me feel distrustful.
- There were many comments that seemed to evaluate participants, which was unpleasant since we were not there to compete (comments about this team being faster or slower compared to others, or remarks about participants' body types).
- There was no warm-up before starting the hike. Since beginners also participated, I would have appreciated some preliminary exercises or guidance.

I believe the presence of a guide for over 10 hours is important, but it seems there can be a hit or miss. (The guides from other teams had a more reasonable pace and appeared to be enjoying themselves.)

Additionally, the rental rain gear was smelly from sweat and was very uncomfortable to wear.

屋久島の自然は素晴らしく、天気にも恵まれました。
しかし、案内していただいたガイドの方の、参加者側への配慮に欠けることが多々あると感じました。

◆具体例
・歩くペースが速く、上着をしまったり、写真を撮ったりする暇がない。基本的に自然を満喫する時間よりも黙々と歩く形式になる。
・屋久島の歴史や生活についての話は冒頭で少しあったが、その他は自身の自慢話や過去の参加者の批判などが多いと感じた。
・靴紐の結び方やストックの使い方、登り方のコツなど、登山に関する知識を全く教えてもらえなかった。
・歩きながら話すので、最後尾（4人目）にいると何を言っているか聞き取れなかった。
・ペースが速い人に合わせるばかりで、遅れている人を気にする様子がなく、見えなくなるくらい離れることもあった。
・下りは特に危険にも関わらず、全く待ってもらえず、20mくらい置いて行かれてしまった。後方で転倒しても気づいてもらえない。ハイスピードで下っていくため危険だと感じた。
・余りにもハイスピードで時間にも余裕があったため、もう少し遅くしてほしいとお願いしたが、その後も全く配慮してもらえなかった。終いには、足が負傷しているため後方で歩きたかったが、あえて先頭を歩かされ、無理矢理急かされる形になった。
・足を負傷して遅くなっている人に対して、アドバイスや励ましの言葉が一切なく、ただ離れないように注意する、遅れられると困ると言われた。
・時間に余裕があったにも関わらず、お昼休憩も15分しか取ってもらえず、お弁当を食べきれなかった。
・滞在時間として言われた時間より10分も早く出発することがあり、信用できないと感じた。
・参加者を評価するような発言も多く、競いに来たわけでもないのに不愉快だった（このチームは他と比べて速い、遅いや、参加者の体型が云々など）。
・登山開始前に準備運動がない。登山初心者も参加するため、事前に運動やガイドが欲しかった。

10時間以上を共にするガイドさんの存在は重要と思いますが、当たり外れがあるように思います。（他チームのガイドさんはペースも速すぎず、楽しそうな様子もありました）

あとは、レンタル用品の雨具が汗臭く、とても着ていられませんでした。。
