I started around 6 AM from the Arakawa Trailhead. While walking on the trolley path, I first encountered a Yakushima monkey! The guide maintained a nice pace for us. They wanted to ascend early to avoid the crowds at the famous spots. On the way up, I learned about the history of Yakushima and the trees. The casual conversations were enjoyable too!

We kept moving forward and saw the Wilson stump. The guide showed us the best angles for taking photos. After walking further, we arrived at the Jomon Sugi. What a sense of accomplishment!!!

On the way back, I learned various things at each point of interest on the trekking course:
- The monkey cedar, which some say looks like a rabbit or a turtle
- A grass that smells like cypress, which has antibacterial properties
- Various carnivorous plants
- The story of the binchotan charcoal stove
- Professional tips on how to photograph different mosses and cedars

Personally, as someone who enjoys photography, I was allowed a certain degree of freedom on the way back.

It was really fun, and walking 22 km felt completely effortless!

朝だいたい6時頃から荒川登山口からスタートしました。
トロッコ道を歩いてると最初に屋久猿に会えました！
ガイドさんはいい感じのペースで歩いてくれます。
名スポットで混み合う前に早めに上がりたいとのことでした。
行きは屋久島の歴史、木々の歴史等々教えてもらいました。
その他の雑談も楽しかったです！
どんどん進んで、ウィルソン株を見ます。どのポイントからどのように撮ればいいかを教えてくれました。そして、さらに歩いて、大縄文杉到着です。達成感！！！

帰路について、トレッキングコースの各見所で様々なことを教えてもらいました。
・猿の杉、見方によればうさぎ、亀がいる
・檜の匂いがする草を手に馴染ませて、抗菌作用もあるよ
・様々な肉食植物
・備長炭のかまどの話
・各コケや杉の写真の撮り方もプロでした

私、個人はカメラ趣味もあるので帰り道はある程度、自由にさせてもらいました。

楽しく、22km歩くのも全く苦にならず本当に楽しかったです！

The trolley path was faster than I expected. Since we were a team of five in our 50s, we each did some training like going to the gym or walking, but... we might have underestimated it a bit. I think practicing fast walking is definitely necessary. Personally, I found climbing Mount Fuji in the summer easier. The fact that we were able to enjoy ourselves and reach the goal despite the difficulty was 100% thanks to our guide, Konaka-san. Fun talks, explanations, and warm miso soup. I participated in this trip alone. The sea is clear and transparent, so much so that you can see far into the distance; it's truly magical. I was also able to encounter a sea turtle, which didn't seem afraid of people, allowing me to see it up close. If you're coming to Yakushima, it's a waste to only go trekking! I was a bit anxious about participating alone, but the group arrangements were considerate, and I was able to enjoy myself and do my best.

Each guide had a different style, but they were all wonderful, making it a memorable day. (All the guides had a great atmosphere.) Since I walked slowly, I was able to walk behind the guide. There were moments when I thought they were going too fast, but I was able to see Jomon Sugi at a time when there weren't many people around! (It wasn't an unreasonable pace.) I believe that the reason I didn't feel too fatigued the next day, despite not exercising much, was due to the guide's pacing.

Also, since I was in the middle of my journey, I couldn't carry my luggage, so I rented a raincoat and backpack. I brought my own comfortable shoes. When I informed them during the pre-check that I wouldn't be renting shoes, they switched it to poles for me.

They even delivered my luggage to the airport (the person who delivered it was bright and wonderful), which was a great help.

In the morning, there was a bus pick-up, and since I had ordered a bento, I was able to participate without any particular worries. (I prepared my own drink, a 500ml bottle, a folding umbrella, and some snacks for energy along the way.)

I felt joy in being able to see Jomon Sugi, encouraging each other with the people in my group, and having a wonderful guide... I truly think I spent a memorable and great day. Thank you! ✨

朝もバスでお迎えがあり、お弁当を頼んでいたのでとくに困ることなく安心して参加でしました。
(飲み物500㎖1本、折りたたみ傘、途中でエネルギー補給になる食べ物は自分で用意します)

On the afternoon of our arrival on Yakushima for a 2-night, 3-day stay, we headed to the Moss Forest. We barely reached the minimum number of participants, but just in time (2 days prior), we were able to proceed with the tour. This tour, which goes only to the Moss Forest and does not continue to Taiko Rock, was just the right distance for warming up. It was the only half-day tour available in the afternoon, so it was a great help.

The Moss Forest feels like stepping into the world of "Princess Mononoke" and "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind." I was moved by the grandeur of the Yakusugi trees and the beauty of the moss. Our guide, Mr. Horikita, grew up on Yakushima and was very knowledgeable about the island and its flora and fauna, sharing a lot of information with us. Unfortunately, the Yakusugi trekking was canceled due to rain, but instead, I was taken to Shiratani Unsuikyo.
Because the rain was heavy, we couldn't reach the highlight, Taiko Rock, but the guide provided an excellent experience within the accessible area.
The guide had a wealth of knowledge about the vegetation and history, which was wonderful.
After leaving Shiratani Unsuikyo, we still had some time left, and the guide kindly offered to take us to another place if we wanted, showing great attentiveness and a strong service spirit.
I would love to have the opportunity to try the Yakusugi trekking again.

We participated as a senior couple (ages 65 and 75), so we requested a private tour. I had heard that it rains a lot, so I was a bit anxious about wearing unfamiliar shoes, but renting the equipment was a great help. The gear must have been of good quality because I felt like a child again, marveling at the sparkling moss and trees in the rain, enjoying myself without worrying about getting my feet wet. As the guide mentioned, one trekking pole would have been sufficient. Especially on the steep descents, it was safer to hold onto the trees or ropes.

I was glad I prepared gloves and trekking socks. The guide's explanations were easy to understand, and the jokes were perfectly timed. The photos of us in our amusing rain gear were all wonderful. Of course, I believe sunny days are also fantastic, but I absolutely love Yakushima in the rain (as long as it’s not pouring).

シニアの夫婦（６５歳と７５歳）で参加いたしましたのでプライベートツアーをお願いいたしました。雨が多いと聞いていましたので、慣れない靴など不安もあったのですが、装備をレンタルし、とても助かりました。性能の良い品なのでしょうか、私は童心にかえったかのごとく、雨の中キラキラ光るコケや木々に歓声をあげ、足など濡れることを気にすることなく終始楽しくすごせました。ガイドの方がおっしゃる通り、ストックは１本でもよかったです。特に下りは斜面が急ですと、木々やロープなどにつかまったほうが安全でした。
自分で用意してよかったのは手袋とトレッキング用の靴下です。
ガイドの方のお話もわかりやすく、絶妙なタイミングでのジョーク、そして笑ちゃうレインウエア姿の数々の写真、すべて素敵です。
もちろん、晴れた日も最高なのだとは思いますが、雨の屋久島、（大雨でなければ）私は大好きです。

Even for someone like me who doesn't exercise much, I was able to enjoy trekking with the local guide, which made me feel at ease. They helped with pacing and took regular breaks, which was very helpful. Additionally, since it was a private tour, I appreciated being able to go at my own pace. My husband and I took photos at various landmarks, and since we don't usually take pictures together, it became a wonderful memory. The weather was sunny in the morning, but it started to rain in the afternoon, so we ended up trekking in the rain. I felt cold during our lunch break, but once we started walking again, I quickly warmed up. Out of the 11 kilometers, the first 8.5 kilometers were along the tracks of a trolley train, so it wasn't tiring, but the last 2.5 kilometers turned into a steep climb like rock climbing. There were several points where we crossed bridges, some of which had no handrails and allowed a view of the river below through gaps in the boards, which was frightening for someone like me who has a fear of heights.

The guide we had has been working in Yakushima for many years. (His main job is as a lumberjack.) He was very knowledgeable about various things and shared many stories with us. His trivia was abundant, and even when others asked questions, his answers were impressive.

He taught us the importance of how to walk while climbing to avoid knee problems and injuries on the way down. He explained it in an easy-to-understand way, using examples from "Demon Slayer," like the different breathing techniques. Even for someone like me who climbs mountains every week, I was able to climb and descend much more easily. I felt he was a specialist, and it was a valuable learning experience.

There are many guides available, so I can't speak for the others, but the guide we had was truly excellent.

It rained, but we were able to enjoy a round trip to Jomon Sugi. Thank you very much. At the very end, I was lucky to see the Yakushima deer siblings.

Since Yakushima has a lot of rain, I used a backpack cover, rainwear, and a folding umbrella while walking along the trolley tracks before entering the mountain path. Even though I wore Gore-Tex rainwear and had a backpack cover, my backpack got wet, and my T-shirt was damp, so I think it's better to put items in a plastic bag and have a change of clothes after descending.

屋久島は雨が多いので、ザックカバー、レインウェア、山道に入るまでのトロッコの線路を歩く時は、折りたたみの傘を使用しました。
ゴアテックスのレインウェアを着て、ザックカバーを付けていても、ザックの中が濡れていたり、Tシャツが濡れていたので、ザックの中な物をビニール袋に入れたり、下山してから着替えがあった方が良いと思います。

Day 1 and Day 2 were both incredible thanks to our wonderful guides and fellow members, making for the best climbing experience.

On Day 1, Tsugimura-san kept the spirits high on the long and challenging journey to Jomon Sugi, encouraging us and safely guiding us to the finish. Throughout the trek, he was attentive, engaging with the members, and prepared various quizzes and humorous stories, showing great consideration. By the end, it felt like the 10-hour trek had flown by, and it was a truly fulfilling experience.

On Day 2, Urasaki-san at Shiratani Unsuikyo provided clear and easy-to-understand instructions. This course was easier than the first day's tour, and we saw many individuals exploring on their own, but the wealth of information about the plants and the explanations of photo spots made it clear that having a guide was definitely worthwhile.

I would love to request a guide from here again on my next visit! Thank you so much for this amazing experience!

We decided to visit Jomon Sugi as a family and made our first trip to Yakushima. Although I had some trekking experience, I felt a bit anxious after researching the distance involved. I found out that there were trekking guides available, so I made a reservation with Beltra. The entire process from application to confirmation was done via email, making it easier than I expected. They provided information on what to bring, allowing us to prepare in advance.

On the morning of the trek, they picked us up at the hotel at 4:30 AM. While we were in the car, we learned about the flow of the day, and due to the car regulations, we switched to a bus, reaching the trailhead in no time.

We took a photo before departure, and the 10-hour trek began. Since we had children with us, we requested a private guide who had lived in Yakushima for six years and had nearly 600 Jomon Sugi guiding experiences.

The weather was great that day, and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom, creating a beautiful contrast with the fresh green trees. According to our guide, it was the best season and timing.

The long journey to Jomon Sugi was filled with photo opportunities, and our experienced guide shared enjoyable stories, keeping even our older child engaged. The explanations about the Yakusugi trees, plants, and scenery were clear and helpful. They monitored our pace and took breaks for lunch, so we didn't get too tired and were able to make the round trip safely. The children also had a great time, making wonderful memories. We even had the chance to see a work trolley passing by, which was a nice coincidence.

After hearing from our guide about the beautiful cherry blossoms, we decided to go to Shiratani Unsuikyo the next day. Although it was cloudy and rainy, we managed to reach Taiko Rock. The summit of Mount Miyanoura was shrouded in clouds, but we enjoyed the beautiful scenery sprinkled with cherry blossom petals.

Our guide shared various stories about Yakushima, making it a great experience. I would like to visit Mount Miyanoura again, so I plan to challenge it next time.

今回子供もいたので、家族のみでお願いしたガイドさんは、屋久島在住6年、縄文杉ガイド600回に迫る方でした。

当日は天気も良く、ちょうど桜も満開になり、新緑と桜色の木々のコントラストが最高でした。
ガイドさん曰く、ベストシーズン、ベストタイミングとのことでした。

縄文杉までの長い道のりも、たくさん写真を取って頂き、途経験豊富なガイドさんの楽しい話を聞きながら、高学年の子供も飽きずに歩いてくれました。所々の屋久杉、植物、景色、その他案内もわかりやすくて、良かったです。
ペースを見ながら、休憩、昼食を取ってくれたので、思ったよりも体も疲れず無事に往復できました。子供も楽しかったとのことで、良い思い出になりました。偶然走っている作業トロッコが見られたのも、タイミングでした。

また、桜がすごい綺麗どのガイドさんの話を聞いたことから、翌日は白谷雲水峡に行こうと決め、曇り雨となりましたが、太鼓岩まで行くことができ、宮之浦岳山頂は雲の中でしたが、桜色が散りばめられた、きれいな景色を堪能できました。

ガイドさんには、屋久島の色々な話を聞くことができ、良い経験でした。また、宮之浦岳にも行きたいと思いましたので、次回は宮之浦岳に挑戦したいと思います。

旅を通して、今回、ベルトラさんにお願いし良かったです。またガイドさんにも大変お世話になり感謝です。

I had always wanted to visit Yakushima. If I were to go again, I wanted to see Jomon Sugi. I wasn't sure if I could handle the challenging 10-hour round trip hike, so I joined a guided tour. I rented essential items like hiking boots and rain gear on-site. March is a mild time of year, not too hot or cold, and I think it's the best season for trekking. A bus picked me up at 4 AM from the JR Yakushima Hotel, and we were taken to the Arakawa trailhead after picking up other participants.

We started at 6 AM, walking the 8 km of the tramway path, which took 4 hours. With the guide's explanations and casual conversations, we reached the end of the tramway surprisingly quickly. The remaining 2 km uphill was tough and took 2 hours. From a specific angle, the Wilson stump looks heart-shaped. Those who weren't fit turned back here, but if you push a little further, you can see Jomon Sugi. Along the way, I chatted with some foreign travelers and enjoyed the fleeting moments.

前から行ってみたかった屋久島。また屋久島に行くなら縄文杉に会いに行きたかった。往復10時間歩くという今まで体験した事がない厳しい行程を果たしてクリア出来るのか？正直自信がありませんでしたので、ガイドツアーに参加しました。登山靴やカッパなど必須アイテムは現地でレンタルしました。3月という気候の穏やかな時期で暑くも寒くもなくトレッキングにはベストシーズンではないかと思います。朝4時にバスがJR屋久島ホテルに迎えに来てくれました。各所で参加者をピックアップし、荒川登山口まで送迎してもらいました。
朝6時にスタート。片道8ｋｍのトロッコ道を4時間掛けて歩きます。道中、ガイドさんの解説や雑談をしていると意外と早く、トロッコ道の終点へ。残りの2ｋｍ超の登りが大変で2時間掛かります。ウィルソン株は特定の角度から見上げるとハート形に見えます。体力のない方はここで引き返していましたが、もう少し頑張ると縄文杉が見られます。途中、出会った外国の人と会話したり、一期一会も楽しめました。遥か太古から地球に存在する縄文杉。この場にいる人が人生を終えても生き続けるであろう縄文杉を見ていると、地球の生命の強さを感じざるを得ませんでした。帰りの方が早く帰れますが、下りのトレッキングは足を痛める可能性があります。道中、膝を痛めて歩きづらくなっていた若者もいましたし、私自身も帰りは足が痛くなりました。それでも一見に値する雄大な自然を満喫できたと思います。雨もほぼ降らずにラッキーな1日でした。

It has been a year since I visited Mount Taicho on Yakushima. The previous year, I attempted to climb Mount Kuromi, but the weather was bad and the scenery was not enjoyable. I also felt that the guide from a different company was not very good, so I was internally anxious. However, this time the guide was a polite woman with whom I had common interests, which put me at ease and made for a wonderful tour. I want to go again; I'm hoping to visit Yakushima this year as well and am waiting for the right timing.

When I climbed, Yakushima was unusually dry, having not seen rain for several days. However, it was clear enough to see the sea and the town below, creating a divine view.

I was told there would be a confirmation call the day before, but when I received the call, I was informed that many people would be coming the next day and it would be crowded, so I was asked to check the email they sent. No matter what I asked, I was told to check the email. That email was sent shortly before the call, so I felt anxious before even going, thinking that if they had sent the email earlier, I could have checked the contents and asked questions.

On the day of the tour, the guide spoke in a way that suggested they didn't want us to take breaks, saying things like, "We have the next stop in 45 minutes," and when I went to the restroom, I was told to hurry because I was late, which felt sarcastic. Then, at Jomon Sugi, we spent 30 minutes, and while talking with others from the tour, we mentioned that it was raining and cold, and we didn't need that much time. After returning, we were made to wait while the guide chatted with other guides.

On the way back, the breaks were excessively long, and I thought that if we had this much time, we could have taken a restroom break on the way there. The time management was not great. After reaching the goal, the guide said, "When you get back, have fun talking bad about your mom," which made me feel very sad. I admit I walked slowly, but I pushed myself to walk for over 10 hours for a once-in-a-lifetime memory, and to be spoken to like that was disheartening. I made the reservation here because other tour companies were fully booked, but I will never use this service again.

前日に確認の電話があると書いてありましたが、電話がかかってきたら、明日は沢山の人がきて混んでいるので、メールを送ったので見てくださいと言われ、何を聞いてもメールを見てと言われました。そのメールも電話の少し前に送られてたので、もっと早くにメールを送ってくれたら、内容を確認してから質問できたのにと、行く前から不安を覚えました。当日は、ガイドさんから、トイレ休憩や水汲みなど、45分後に次があるので、など、あまり行って欲しくないような言い方をされ、トイレに行くと、遅くなったので急ぎましょうとか嫌味を言われました。かと思うと、縄文杉で30分も時間を取り、他のツアーの方と、雨が降って寒いし、早く帰りたいので30分も要らないのにねと話して、戻っても、他のガイドさんと話していて待たされました。帰りはやたら休憩が長く、こんなに時間があったなら、行きのトイレの時間を取れたはずなのに、時間配分がイマイチでした。ゴールに着いた後、最後に、「帰ったらお母さんの悪口で盛り上がってね」と言われ、とても悲しい気持ちになりました。確かに私も歩くのが遅かったと思いますが、一生の思い出にと頑張って10時間以上歩いたのに、そんな言われ方をして悲しいです。他のツアー会社が一杯だったのに、こちらは空いていたので予約したのですが、2度と使いません。

After confirming your arrival, we planned to discuss based on that email, but unfortunately, we did not receive your confirmation. I believe we sent multiple messages and a short text after which we received your response.

Second point:
Regarding the report that the guide said, "When you get home, have fun talking bad about your mother," we confirmed with the guide and other customers who participated that the guide actually said, "Have fun talking bad about yourself," but did not mention "mother." The guide's comment was made in response to not being able to provide a smooth and detailed explanation during a restroom break.

As for your father's illness, this is also a matter of our office's oversight. Depending on the severity of the pre-existing condition, participation may not be possible, and we regret not confirming this beforehand. 1点目：
お客様が屋久島に到着した時に弊社へ電話連絡するのがルールとなっており、弊社営業時間までに連絡が無い場合は返金無しと予約取消になります。当日は多くの予約を受けていましたので、2日前に詳しく書いた物をメールで送っておりました。ご到着確認後、そのメールにそってお話をさせていただく予定でしたが、あいにく、到着確認の連絡をいただけていなかったと存じます。弊社から複数回の連絡とショートメッセージを送らせていただきました後、ご連絡をいただいたかと確認しております。

2点目：
ガイドが「帰ったらお母さんの悪口で盛り上がってね」と発言したとのご報告について、当日のガイドと当日ご一緒に参加いただきましたお客様に確認しましたところ、ガイドが「自分の悪口で盛り上がってね」とは言ったが「お母さん」とは言っていないとヒアリングしております。では、なぜガイドがそのような発言をしたのかについて、トイレ確認の際に、スムーズに詳しくご説明とご案内が出来なかったことを受けての発言となったとのことでございます。

しかしながらどんな状況においても、プロのガイドとして、明らかにおかしな発言をしてしまったと弊社としましても重く受け止めております。
一生に一度のご旅行のお手伝いをさせていただいているということを再認識し、改めて、お客様一人ひとりに寄り添った心のこもったご案内ができるようガイド教育を徹底してまいります。

At the photo spot, the guide took pictures for us, creating wonderful memories. They shared interesting information about Yakushima's characteristics, the plants, and the highlights of the area, which I found very engaging. The moss-covered forest was also fantastic, but the journey to get there was mystical and very healing.

Since I usually don't move around much, the half-day course at Shiratani Unsuikyo was just right for me.

撮影スポットでは、ガイドさんが写真を撮ってくれていい思い出が残りました。
屋久島の特徴や、植物の事、その場の見どころなどを話して頂き、とても興味深かったです。
苔むす森もとても良かったですが、そこに行くまでも道のりも神秘的でとても癒されました。

普段、動くことが少ないので、白谷雲水峡の半日コースでちょうどよかったです。
