Thanks to our experienced guide, I was able to walk the long distance of 11 hours without worry, meet Jomon Sugi, and connect with wonderful people in the same tour who helped achieve our goal together. I am filled with gratitude for all the circumstances that brought us together. I definitely want to participate again next time!

Since I had no trekking experience and was anxious about it being my first time, I decided to join a tour. I was quite nervous about participating alone, but thanks to the kindness of the guide, I was placed at the back of the group. The guide also encouraged me to take my time at the photo spots, which was very helpful. The couple and the group of four ladies who were also on the tour were friendly and easy to talk to, making the trekking experience enjoyable. I'm really glad I chose to join the tour.

トレッキングの経験もなく、初めてで不安だったのでツアーにしました。1人参加もかなり不安だったのですが、ガイドさんのご厚意で最後尾にして頂き、写真スポットも最後にゆっくり撮って大丈夫だからと声かけて頂き助かりました。ツアー参加者のご夫婦、4人グループのお姉様方も気さくに話して頂き楽しくトレッキングする事が出来、ツアーにして本当に良かったです。

Since it was forecasted to rain in the afternoon, we decided to go from Shiratani to Jomon Sugi instead of the usual route from Jomon Sugi to Shiratani. From the morning shuttle, the guide seemed to be concerned about the bus schedule. It appeared that he was tired from guiding five consecutive tours and I could already sense that he wanted to return on the 5 PM bus. This was mentioned multiple times afterward, making me feel pressured to hurry back.

On the way there, we took appropriate breaks and he even took photos for us, making the challenging journey enjoyable. However, the return from Jomon Sugi was a completely different experience; he walked ahead without guiding us at all, creating a distance that made it feel like there were ten people in our small group of just three. I found myself envious of the other tours. When my friend's shoe broke, another nearby guide suggested a quick fix, but our guide hurried on, ignoring it. In the end, my friend's shoe ended up in a terrible state, and another guide had to step in to help.

By the time we were walking on the tramway, it started to rain, but we rushed ahead to catch the 5 PM bus, walking at an incredible speed and overtaking several other tours. We were so focused on keeping up that we couldn't enjoy the scenery around us. We never even mentioned wanting to return on the 5 PM bus.

To top it all off, when we finally arrived at the bus stop just before 5 PM, there were too many passengers, and we couldn't get on. The guide then strongly told me it was our fault for being late! He ordered us to buy bus tickets quickly, but since we didn't know how, we had to ask others around us for help. Shouldn't a guide assist with that?

We were told to place our backpacks near the entrance while waiting for the bus, but no one else did. Normally, I would expect the guide to put down his own backpack in such situations. I felt there was a complete lack of consideration. When it was time to board the bus, he casually slipped in behind us. It was frustrating. The return shuttle ride was rough and scary. Overall, it was a very disappointing tour.

Given that work style reforms have been recommended for quite some time, shouldn't the guide's working conditions be reviewed? If fatigue leads to poor judgment and an accident, it could have serious consequences. I would like to visit Yakushima again, but I will never use your tours again.

この日は午後から雨予報だったので通常の縄文杉→白谷ではなく白谷→縄文杉で行きました。
朝の送迎の時からガイドはバスの時間を気にしてました。5連続でガイドをして疲れているらしく17時のバスで帰りたそうな気配をすでに感じ取れました。その後、この話は何度もされ早く帰らなきゃと気を使いました。
行きは適度に休憩を取り写真も撮ってくれて厳しい道のりでしたが楽しんで歩けていました。が、縄文杉からの折り返しは一変し、ガイドすることもなくひたすらスタスタを歩いて行ってしまいました。たった3人だけのツアーなのに10人位いるかのような間隔の遠さで途中からガイドツアーなのかフリーなのかと錯覚するほど。他のツアーの方々が羨ましかったです。友人の靴が壊れてしまった際も近くにいた他のガイドが応急処置を促したのにも関わらず先を急いでいるのでスルーされました。結局、友人の靴は悲惨な事になり他のガイドが見かねて処置をしてくれました。トロッコ道を歩く頃には雨が降り出したのですが17時のバスに間に合わせようと凄い速さで歩き進めました。他のツアーを何組も抜かす程でした。友人の靴を気にする事もなく雨で滑りやくなっているのにスピードは落ちませんでした。私たちはついて行くのに必死すぎて周りの景色なんて楽しめませんでした。そもそも17時のバスで帰りたいなんて一言も言ってませんけどね。極め付けは、やっとのおもいで何とか17時前にバス停に着いたものの乗客が沢山いすぎて乗れなかった際にガイドが私に向かって遅かったからだ！と強く言い放ちました。バスのチケットを早く買えと命令してくるもチケットの買い方なんて知らない我々は周りの方に聞きながら買いました。ガイドならそこまで案内するべきではないですか？なんなんですかね。バスの順番待ちにリュックを入り口付近へ置くように言われましたが私たち以外には置いた人はいませんでした。普通、そういう時はガイドが自分のリュックを置くと思うのですが？配慮のかけらもない方だと思いました。バス乗車時には何食わぬ顔で私たちの後ろにスッと入ってきました。嫌気がさしました。帰りの送迎も運転が荒く怖かったです。後味悪すぎるツアーとなりました。
働き方改革はずいぶん前から推奨されているのでガイドの勤務体制を見直すべきではないでしょうか？過労により判断を誤って事故を起こしたら取り返しがつかなくなりますよ。屋久島にはまた来たいと思いますが御社のツアーは二度と利用しません。

The tour was packed with must-visit spots like Jomon Sugi, Shiratani Unsuikyo, and Taiko Rock, making it a bit of a hard course. However, our guide maintained a fun atmosphere throughout, allowing us to enjoy the walk until the end! Although it was crowded during Golden Week and the temperature was a bit low, I was very pleased with the thoughtful adjustments made, like the warm miso soup provided.

Taiko Rock, which we visited last, was truly moving, and all the fatigue disappeared, creating wonderful memories with my partner! I highly recommend this for anyone looking to create beautiful memories!

I chose this plan to make the most of my time in Kyushu during my assignment. On the day of the hike, we were fortunate to have no rain and enjoyed a refreshing breeze along the way, making for great conditions. However, the total course of about 12 and a half hours of climbing and descending was physically demanding. The steep incline to the summit of Taiko Rock was particularly tough... But the magnificent view after overcoming that challenge was truly amazing. I was also able to see Jomon Sugi and Shiratani Unsuikyo properly, and the sense of achievement upon reaching the goal was invaluable.

Our guide, Tsugimura, not only had an impressive amount of knowledge about each spot (the guide from another group that arrived at the same time ran out of things to say, which was amusing), but also kept us entertained with engaging talks and filming techniques using a GoPro. Thanks to him, I was able to enjoy the 12 and a half hours of the tour, even as someone who joined alone. Thank you very much.

I usually only play futsal once a month, so I was quite out of shape and exhausted, but I managed to keep up with the pace of those around me and walk until the end. The trails to Jomon Sugi, Taiko Rock, and Shiratani Unsuikyo were each quite challenging, so I feel that it was a good decision to tackle this tour in one day rather than splitting it over multiple days, both for physical stamina and to keep the itinerary compact.

As for equipment, I think trekking shoes are essential since there are many slippery areas (I bought a mid-cut pair for about 16,000 yen at Montbell after consulting with a staff member). Also, even during Golden Week, it felt generally cold, so having a long-sleeved jacket that can be taken on and off (like a windbreaker) would have been necessary.

I had some anxiety about whether I could make it through until the end, but I believe I had a truly wonderful experience feeling the beauty of nature at each spot, enjoying the pleasant breeze along the way, savoring the delicious lunch (and tonjiru) in the mountains, and experiencing the sense of achievement at the finish line. I highly recommend this tour to those who are considering it and do not have major concerns about their physical fitness (like those who were in sports clubs until high school).

せっかくの九州への赴任期間にしかできないこと、ということでGWを利用してこちらのプランを選びました。
当日は雨に降られることもなく、涼しい風に癒されながらの道中で恵まれたコンディションでしたが、それでも総計12時間半ほど登ったり下ったりのコースは体力的には厳しいものでした。特に太鼓岩の頂上までの急な勾配は一番苦しかった。。。でもそれを乗り越えた後の雄大な眺望は本当に素晴らしかったです。縄文杉と白谷雲水狭もしっかり見ることできましたし、ゴールまでたどり着いたときの達成感は何にも代えがたいものでした。

ガイドの津曲さんは、各スポットに関する知識量もさることながら（同じタイミングで到着した別隊のガイドさんが話す余白がなくなってました笑）、道中のきつさを忘れさせてくれるトークとGoPro等駆使した撮影テクニックで、とても盛り上げてくださいました。おかげで一人でツアーに飛び込んだ私も楽しみながら12時間半踏破することができました。ありがとうございました。

私は月に一度フットサルをやれば良いほうという運動不足人間で、ヘロヘロにはなりましたが、周囲のペースに特に遅れることもなく最後まで歩くことができました。縄文杉と太鼓岩・白谷雲水狭はそれぞれで大変な道中だったという体感ですので、体力的にも旅程をコンパクトにする意味でも、別々に日にちを分けて行くよりも勢いで1日で制覇してしまうこのツアーにしておいたのは正解だったような気がしています。

装備としては、滑りやすいところが多いのでトレッキングシューズは必須だと思いました（私はモンベルで店員さんに相談しながら16000円くらいのミッドカットのものを事前に買いました）。また、GWでも基本的には寒い印象でしたので、長袖の着脱できる上着（ウインドブレーカー）も無いと辛かったと思います。

私も実際に終えてみるまでは乗り切れるか不安に思っていたところがありましたが、縄文杉や太鼓岩、白谷雲水狭をはじめとする各スポットで感じる自然の美しさ、道中で感じる風の気持ちよさ、山で食べるお弁当（と豚汁）のおいしさ、ゴールで感じる達成感と本当に素晴らしい体験ができたと思っています。迷われている方で体力に大きな不安がない方（高校くらいまでは運動部だった方など）にはぜひおすすめしたいと思います。

According to the guide, trekking to Jomon Sugi is most beautiful in cloudy weather or light rain. I felt the same way. I participated in the trekking at Shiratani Unsuikyo the day before, so climbing mountains for two consecutive days was quite tough. However, there were quite a few people in the same situation. Even in cloudy weather, I was drenched in sweat while climbing, and I hardly wore the rental gear. I drank water from a stream for the first time in my life, and it was cold and delicious. After returning to the lodge, both my husband and I were exhausted. But I’m really glad I was able to see Jomon Sugi in person.

As a beginner in mountain climbing, it was really tough for me. After returning to the lodge in the evening, I was so exhausted that my spouse and I just fell asleep right away. However, since people of all ages participate, I think anyone can join. According to our guide, the moss isn't beautiful unless it rains, and you can't see the view from Taiko Rock unless it's sunny, so it was rare to have such an ideal day with rain the day before and good weather on the day itself. The nature and moss along the way were beautiful, but the view from Taiko Rock and the thrill of the cliffs were absolutely the best. It was hot, so I ended up not wearing most of the rental gear. There were quite a few people who took off their clothes along the way because they were drenched in sweat.

山登り初心者なので余計かもしれませんが、とにかく山登りが本当に辛かったです。夕方宿に戻ってからは、あまりの疲労でぐったり、夫婦共々そのまま寝てしまいました。でも老若男女が参加されてますので、誰でも参加できると思います。ガイドさん曰く、雨が降っていないと苔が美しくないし、晴れてないと太鼓岩から景色が見えないので、前日雨で、当日は天気が良かったので、こんな理想的な日は珍しいとのことでした。道中の自然や苔も美しかったですが、やはり太鼓岩からの眺めと崖のスリルはとにかく最高でした。暑かったので、レンタルしたウェアは結局ほとんど着用しませんでした。汗だくになり、途中で脱いでる人がけっこういました。

For those who don't plan to hike or do similar activities, I recommend renting shoes, trekking poles, a backpack, and rain gear. Personally, I believe mid-cut trekking shoes are essential. I think I would have injured my ankles if I hadn't worn mid-cuts on the way down.

Also, if the weather isn't favorable, it might be quite tough... The scenery from the trolley path to the end is full of highlights. For those who love nature just by walking, I think it's irresistible.

There are water stations here and there, so you don't need to carry too much water. Bringing powdered sports drinks can help lighten your load a bit. The toilets are limited in number, so I managed to avoid using a portable toilet by keeping my hydration moderate.

朝は早いし、キツイですが1度行ってみる価値はあると思います。
最初にトロッコ道が片道約2時間、これが終わると登山を2時間あります。
これから登山などをする予定が無い人は、レンタルで靴やストック、リュック、雨具などをした方がいいと思います。
個人的にミドルカットのトレッキングシューズは必須と思います。
下りで2回ほどミドルカットでなければ足首痛めてただろうなぁと思います。
あとは、天気に恵まれないとかなりキツイかも…
景色はトロッコ道から最後まで見どころ満載です。
歩いてるだけで自然が好きな方にはたまらないと思います。
飲み物は、ところどころに給水場があるのであまり大量に持って行かなくても大丈夫でした。
粉末のスポーツドリンクを持っていけば少しだけ荷物減らせます。
トイレは、場所が限られてるので水分補給はほどほどにしてなんとか携帯トイレ使わずに済みました。
あとは、甘いものが少しあるだけでだいぶ楽になりました。
とにかくキツイけど、達成感と圧倒的な自然を体験したいかたは行く価値ありと思います。

ガイドさんにも天気にも恵まれて最高の旅行になりました。
本当にありがとうございました。

The communication from the reservation to the day of the event was seamless, and I felt reassured by the company. However, the guide on the day was the absolute worst.

- The guide was mean, and just thinking about it makes me angry.
- They only seemed to care about getting back and forth quickly. (This felt like the overall policy of the company, which raises questions.)
- Their voice was so quiet that I couldn't hear them, and when I tried to ask questions or clarify, I was ignored. At first, I thought they just didn't hear me, but after being ignored multiple times, it was clear it was intentional. As a result, even if I had questions during the trip, I couldn't ask.
- They only wanted to talk about themselves and their achievements, and they were persistent until I reacted.
- I had lost the desire to talk, and then I saw another group where the younger people laughed at everything, which made me think how nice that was.
- They repeatedly said they would carry someone if they got injured, but only if they were cute.
- When I jokingly mentioned to a friend that I wanted to ride the trolley because I was tired, they said, "You can ride if you break your neck." I couldn't believe my ears.
- I slipped and fell on the way back, but there was no care offered, and even though I was walking in a safe area, I was told it was my fault for not being careful.
- For some reason, the guide went to the back on the return trolley path, and I was forced to walk at the front while being told to speed up, with no chance for a bathroom break. I wasn't even informed about the timing for the last restroom stop.

・疲れたからトロッコに乗せて欲しいと友人と冗談で話していたら、「首の骨が折れたら乗せてもらえる」と。耳を疑った。
・復路に足を滑らせ転んでしまったが、なんのケアもない上、自分が歩きやすい所を歩いているのに、見ていないのがダメなんだと言われる。
・復路のトロッコ道はなぜかガイドが最後尾にいき、私が先頭を歩かされた上、もっとスピードあげろといわれ、トイレ休憩すらままならない。最後のトイレのタイミングも教えてもらえなかった。

I challenged myself with my mother in her 60s, and although I had concerns about our physical stamina, the guide taught us walking tips and made sure we took adequate breaks, allowing us to reach the summit. We also learned various things, such as why the Yakusugi trees live so long, and we took many photos, which made the trekking experience much more enjoyable. We were blessed with good weather, and the view from Taiko Rock still excites me when I think about it.

Since the hiking trail is not as well-maintained as Mount Fuji's and there were puddles even on sunny days, I was glad I brought hiking boots. Additionally, trekking poles were a great help for my mother both going up and down. (Although there were no available plans with gear rental, we were able to borrow them from a rental shop near the airport.)

We created the best memories of a mother-daughter trip. Thank you to our guide, Mr. Manabe, and the three women in our group who matched our pace.

The trekking experience was enjoyable as expected, even in light rain. Although there was no view from Taiko Rock, I was satisfied since the moss-covered forest was the main attraction. The rental of shoes and raincoats was very helpful.

Changing the reservation due to schedule changes was smooth, but the response to emails via Veltra was slow, and the phone calls were fast-paced, making it difficult to understand the follow-up calls from Veltra. Additionally, when using listings from other sites, I found some items that were not available. The rental shoes and tour guides seem to be outsourced, and the correction of the size I communicated over the phone was not conveyed, which made things less smooth. I also wanted to confirm the time for the next day, but the response was "We don't know" and "I haven't heard." On the day of the tour, there was a pickup oversight with the lunch, which required us to turn back. The tour guide even asked, "When did you make your reservation?" despite having booked well in advance, which highlighted a lack of preparation.

The front windshield of the shuttle vehicle was so foggy that it was hard to see, which made me feel it was dangerous as they drove slowly and wiped it down. ツアーガイドさんも昨日連絡があって貴方たちはいつ予約したの？と聞かれたり…ずいぶん前から予約をしてるのに準備不足が目立ち、なんだかなぁと思いました。
送迎の車のフロントガラスが全く見えない位に曇っていたので、ゆっくり運転したり拭いたりしていましたが危ないなぁと感じました。レンタカーが主体の会社なのにと思い、前日利用した他のツアー会社との差があり過ぎてびっくりしました。

コロナで若いガイドさんが沢山辞められて大変な事、ゴールデンウィークが忙しかった事等、色々と事情もおありでしょう。レンタルの方は物腰も柔らかく、ツアーガイドさんも親切で頑張ってらっしゃいましたが、なんとなくモヤモヤとするツアーでした。

I was a bit anxious about my first trekking experience on both the Shiratani Unsuikyo and Jomon Sugi courses, but I was able to reach the goal with energy!
Originally, the plan was to go from Jomon Sugi to Shiratani Unsuikyo, but considering the weather, they changed the order, allowing us to reach Taiko Rock when there was no fog.
When we arrived at Jomon Sugi, it was pouring rain, but it was incredibly impressive.
We enjoyed the nature while seeing the plants in the forest and listening to the birds' songs, thanks to the explanations provided.
While navigating the steep mountain paths, we took breaks to catch our breath, and on the long, flat trolley road, we had fun walking with many quizzes.
They prepared various surprises for us to enjoy (I won't go into details to avoid spoilers, haha), and they also took photos and videos, making it a truly satisfying day!
For those planning to go, it might be a good idea to think about what poses to do at photo spots and to wear brighter colors so you don't blend into the forest in the pictures, haha.

初めてのトレッキングで白谷雲水峡+縄文杉の両方のコースで少し不安がありましたが、元気にゴールできました！
もとは縄文杉→白谷雲水峡の予定だったようですが、天候を考慮して順番を変えてもらったことで霧がないときに太鼓岩にたどり着くことができました。
縄文杉に着いたときはどしゃぶりでしたが、迫力満点でした。
森の中の植物を見たり、鳥の鳴き声を聞きながら説明していただいて自然を満喫できました。
険しい山道は合間に呼吸を整えながら、長くて平坦なトロッコ道ではたくさんのクイズを出してもらって楽しく歩くことができました。
私たちが楽しめるように数々の仕込みをしてくださり(ネタバレしてしまうと良くないので詳細は書かないでおきます笑)、写真や動画も撮っていただいて本当に大満足の1日でした！
これから行く予定の方は写真スポットでどんなポーズをするか候補を考えておく、写真で森の中に溶け込まないように明るめの色の服装にする、といいかもしれないですね笑

Trekking to Jomon Sugi with my husband, who is celebrating his 60th birthday, and my wife, who is close to 60, was blessed by the rain god of Yakushima, and it was almost entirely rainy.

I am truly grateful to our guide, K, who adjusted the pace to accommodate our lack of stamina. He kindly encouraged us multiple times, saying, "Our goal today is for everyone to safely descend!" He also quickly attended to my husband when he felt discomfort in his knee, helped him up when he fell, and kept our spirits high with engaging conversation. We were really well taken care of.

In the morning, I made a mistake by following an unfamiliar old man who resembled our guide, which caused me to get separated from my team at the starting point and worried the other tour participants. Fortunately, I was able to reunite with the group at the end of the tramway, and from then on, the guides warmly said, "I'm glad you made it back safely" every time we passed each other. It was a rare experience and became a wonderful memory!

The advance communication was thorough, and I felt that my concerns and uncertainties were addressed with care. The day before and the day before that, the tours were canceled due to bad weather, so I was worried about the weather and the condition of the mountain paths. However, the trails were manageable, and although I encountered a bit of rain towards the end on the tramway, it was a comfortable trekking experience.

The guide took breaks at just the right moments when I felt a bit tired, sharing interesting stories about Yakushima that were educational. On the day I participated, there were fewer climbers, making it easy to walk, and I was able to enjoy the Wilson stump and Jomon cedar at a leisurely pace, which was great!

Although I was traveling alone, the people I met were very nice, and we had great conversations and took photos together. The guide was well-versed in photo spots and took many wonderful pictures, for which I am grateful! Since it was a small group that day, I was able to ask the guide many questions and communicate with others, making it a fulfilling day.

It is common to visit Jomon Sugi and Shiratani Unsuikyo over two days, but since the routes are similar, I think it’s more efficient to do it in one day as a combined trip. It’s easier than going back the same way!

The course doesn’t significantly increase in distance, nor does it reduce the number of spots you can visit, so I recommend it!

There are occasionally steep climbs that can be physically demanding, but it’s at a level that women can complete.

縄文杉と白谷雲水峡をそれぞれ２日で回るのが一般的だが、ルートは同じようなところを使うため、ついでによる形式で1日で行った方が効率的で、同じ道をまた行くより楽だと思います！
コース的にも距離が大きく増えるわけでも、寄れるスポットが減るわけでもないので、おすすめです！

I was picked up at Yakushima Airport and went straight to Shiratani Unsuikyo. Our guide was the veteran Mr. Yanagida. He is said to be over 70 years old, but he was very youthful and much more agile than us! He was also a guide with a wealth of knowledge.

Since we had planned to trek to Jomon Sugi the next day, we gave up on Taiko Rock and opted for a trek to the moss-covered forest. Thanks to the rain the day before, the trees and moss sparkled with water droplets, shining in the sunlight—it was truly beautiful. The guide shared stories about the 600 types of moss, numerous trees and flowers, the sounds of birds, fallen trees, granite, and feldspar, and he was really knowledgeable!

Among all the stories, the one about how ancient people coexisted with the gods of the mountains, forests, and trees was fascinating, as it allowed us to feel the presence of humans in nature. Fortunately, we also got to see a mother monkey holding her newborn baby.

Thanks to our guide, we were able to fully enjoy the charm of Shiratani Unsuikyo, including the highlights, timing for breaks, snack time, and photo opportunities. I truly appreciate it. The only regret is that we couldn't go to Taiko Rock. I would like to visit again.

屋久島空港まで迎えに来てもらい、そのまま白谷雲水峡へ。
ガイドはベテラン柳田さん。70を超えておらるそうですが、とても若々しくて私たちよりずっと健脚！そして知識豊富なガイドさんでした。

翌日に縄文杉へのトレッキングを予定していたので、太鼓岩はあきらめて、苔むす森までのトレッキング。
前日の雨のおかげで、木々や苔が水滴でキラキラ、木漏れ日に輝いて本当にきれいでした。
600種類はあると言われる苔や、たくさんの樹々や花々の話、鳥の鳴き声、倒木更新や花崗岩・正長石の話等々、ガイドさんは本当に知識が豊富！

中でも、山や森や樹々に神様を感じながら共生していた昔の人たちの生活の話は、大自然の中に人の姿を感じることができ、興味が尽きませんでした。
幸せなことに、生まれたばかりの子ザルを抱いた母猿に逢うこともできました。
見どころはもちろん、休憩のタイミングや、お菓子の時間、写真の撮影まで、ガイドさん無くては、白谷雲水峡の魅力をあれほど堪能できなかったと思います。
本当にありがとうございました。
心残りは太鼓岩に行けなかったこと。また、訪ねたいと思います。

I participated in my first trip to Yakushima with four friends. There were so many things I didn't know about the climate, what to bring, and the physical demands of trekking, but during the confirmation call after booking the tour, they provided very thorough guidance, which made me feel at ease for the trek. Once the actual trekking started, they took and shared many photos and videos! I think it would have been difficult to capture the moments as I wanted if I had gone alone, but they paid attention to angles, making it a truly memorable experience. It was over 10 hours of trekking, but with enjoyable conversations and explanations about Yakushima, I never got bored or sleepy. I was able to fully enjoy Yakushima for the entire day, and it was a very satisfying trek! Thank you very much!

After arriving by plane, I took a bus in heavy rain to Yakusugi Land, which is over 1,000 meters above sea level, and climbed to Jomon Sugi. I experienced quite an impressive baptism of rain. I was a bit anxious about the 10-hour hike for the first time, but our guide, Yokota, organized everything so well that we were able to hike smoothly. I learned a lot about the history as well. The Yakusugi trees were, of course, amazing, but I felt a sense of awe from the vast nature along the way that I had never experienced before. I was overwhelmed by the nature that I can't see in Osaka, and I felt a bit sad that such nature no longer exists there. I hope we can create a world where nature is not destroyed and humans can share more with it.

今回はじめての10時間の登山不安もありましたがガイドの横田さんがとても段取りよく連れて行ってくださりスムーズに登山することができました。歴史もいろいろ教えていただき勉強になりました。屋久杉ももちろん素晴らしかったですがそこに行き着くまでの道中に広がる大自然に今まで感じたことがなかったような感動を覚えました。大阪では見えない自然に圧倒されたとともに、もう大阪にはこのような自然がない事を少し悲しく思いました。自然破壊が進まず人間が自然ともっと共有する世の中になりますように。

The biggest challenge was descending 22 km in 10 hours by 5 PM! I tried to book with several tour companies, but due to being 74 years old, I repeatedly canceled because of comments like "the guide might have to wait for you at some point" and suggestions for custom tours. However, during my final search, I found a "chartered bus from the hotel to the trailhead," and they kindly listened to my concerns about my age, allowing me to participate. (I secretly thought that since it was a chartered bus, it might be flexible if my descent was a bit delayed...) On March 17, at 4:20 AM, a large shuttle bus arrived at the bus stop in front of the hotel. (I realized that with this large bus, my personal requests would be impossible! I just have to do my best!) We arrived at the Arakawa trailhead in about an hour. The guide introduced the tour members, but it was dark, so I couldn't see well. After turning on my flashlight and having breakfast and warm-up exercises, we departed around 6 AM. It was still dimly lit before dawn. I followed the guide along the trolley path with my flashlight on. Our guide, Shimazu, was friendly and gentle. About 30 minutes in, dawn began to break, and I desperately walked while gazing at the misty scenery of Yakushima, including the iron bridge and Aiko Mountain. The key to walking, I learned, is to walk like a ghost, relaxed and without exerting too much effort.

We took our first break by the side of the path after passing Kosugidani lodge. Here, I witnessed a "mysterious walking style" that allowed someone to complete 100 famous mountains in 48 days. A young man in his 30s, who was friendly with the guide, joined us. Fortunately, he offered to carry my luggage. I became lighter and was able to walk much faster by mimicking the relaxed walking style I had learned. The trolley path to the entrance of the Okubo trail, about 8.5 km, felt quite long. After a restroom break, we entered the steep ascent. Unlike the trolley path, it was rugged. However, I was moved by the ancient and oddly shaped Yakusugi trees we encountered one after another. Trekking while listening to explanations and experiences was enjoyable. The highlight was the Wilson stump, a heart shape glowing in light green towards the sky. We all took a commemorative photo with the heart shape. We walked slowly without resting during the steep ascents and descents, balancing on one foot while walking. I was taught repeatedly how to walk without putting weight below my pelvis. Finally, I faced the Jomon Sugi, my long-held dream. I was able to take my time and enjoy the view from two or three observation points, leaving me extremely satisfied. This experience became a precious lifelong memory, blessed with the kindness and encouragement of our guide Shimazu, the young man who carried my luggage until the end, good weather, and various strokes of luck. Thanks to Shimazu's walking techniques, we enjoyed river play and were able to descend together as a tour group around 4:30 PM. Through our shared desire to "meet the Jomon Sugi," I felt deeply the beauty of human connections, as we encouraged each other with the same goal. It was a truly wonderful experience. Thank you very much.

最大のネックは10時間22kmを5時までに下山！数件のツアー会社の予約を試みたが74歳の高齢のため「ガイドさんに途中で待ってもらうこともあるかも」等のダメ押しやカスタマーツアーガイドの提案等でキャンセルを繰り返し諦めていた縄文杉ツアー。最終の検索で「ホテルから登山口までバス貸し切り」を見つけ、高齢であること他こちらの希望を快く聞いて頂き参加に至る。（内心バス貸し切りのため下山が少し遅れても融通が利くかも・・・）という甘い思いもあったのだが・・・3月17日当日4時20分ホテル前のバス通りに大型送迎バスが来た。(この大型バスでは個人の希望は無理だろう！頑張るのみだ！）と気づく。荒川登山口に1時間位で到着。ガイドさんからツアーメンバーの紹介があったが暗くてよく分からない。懐中電灯をつけて朝食、準備体操後6時頃出発。まだ夜が明けやらぬ薄暗さ。懐中電灯をつけてトロッコ道をガイドさんの後ろについて歩く。気さくで温和な優しい島津ガイドさん。30分位で夜が明け始め朝もやの屋久島の鉄橋、愛子岳等周りの景色に目を凝らしながら必死で歩く。歩き方は、力を入れないで脱力で幽霊のように歩くことがコツだそうだ。
小杉谷宿舎を越えた道脇で第1回目の休憩。ここでは、百名山を48日で達成したと言う”斜めに走るような不思議な歩き方”を見せてもらった。ツアーメンバ
ーでガイドさんと懇意の30代の若者が同行。幸いなことに、その方が私の荷物を持ってくださることになった。私は身軽になり教えてもらった脱力の歩き方を真似て驚くほどスピードを増して歩くことができるようになった。大株歩道入口までのトロッコ道約8、5㎞はかなり長い。トイレ休息後本格的な登り道。トロッコ道と違って険しい。けれども次々と出会う太古で奇形な屋久杉達に感動。解説や体験談を聞きながらのトレッキングは楽しい。極めつけはウイルソン株。空に向かって輝く黄緑のハート形。ハート型を天にツアーみんなで記念撮影。急な登りや下りは休まずゆっくり歩く。浮いた片足を休ませながら歩行する。骨盤よりも下に体重をかけない。などの歩き方を繰り返し伝授し手助をして頂く。ついに憧れの縄文杉と対面。2，3か所の見学ポイントからゆっくりじっくりと対面することができ大大満足。ツアーガイドさんの島津さん、荷物を最後まで持って頂いた好青年、ツアーメンバーの優しさと励まし、好天、様々な幸運に恵まれた貴重な一生の思い出となる体験でした。島津ガイドの歩き方魔術で、川遊びも楽しみ4時半頃には登山口にツアーメンバーそろって下山できました。「縄文杉に会いたい」という同じ願いを通して人と人の出会い、同じ目的を持った者同士、声を掛け合う姿。”人間っていいな"を深く感じた体験になりました。本当に有難うございました。
