Located within the Korean Demilitarized Zone is the Joint Security Area (also known as the Truce Village of Panmunjom) where the divided Koreas can meet and continue negotiations. Following talks between Korean leaders Kim Jong Un and Moon Jae-In in 2018, the JSA has begun the removal of guard posts, weapons and landmines. Further developments may see JSA as a place of interest for tourists and may no longer be heavily guarded. But for now, the area continues to be highly controlled.
Please Note
In light of the ongoing talks between North Korea and South Korea, the JSA is often closed by the United Nations Command (UNC) due to military activities. Currently, it is only possible to visit the JSA with a DMZ/JSA combination tour but closures can still take place. You can tour DMZ without JSA with these DMZ and 3rd Tunnel tours that have higher availability.

Sites that can be seen or visited in the tours of JSA:

Freedom House
The Freedom House was built in July of 1998 originally with the intention of hosting reunions of families separated during the Korean War. Today it is used as a liaisoning facility. North Korea's propaganda building, Panmungak, is right in front.

Military Armistice Commission Conference Room
One of the center blue buildings in the JSA is the Military Armistice Commission (MAC) Conference Room, where talks between North Korea and South Korea take place. A table in the conference room shows the border of the divided country.

UN Guard Post 3
Installed on a small mound, the guard post lets visitors see a commanding view of North Korea territory and its mountainous horizon.

Imjingak Resort and the Bridge of Freedom
Imjingak Park is home to many monuments and artifacts related to the Korean War including tanks and aircrafts. The park was originally built as a memorial for peace and aspirations of unification between the people of North Korea and South Korea. Places of interest include a barbed fence where thousands of colorful prayer ribbons and messages of peace are hanging and the Bridge of Freedom (Bridge of No Return), the only bridge crossing the Imjin River, connecting North and South Korea where war captives were permitted to cross the bridge from North Korea to South at the end of the Korean War.
