Changdeokgung Palace Complex
4.34
One of Joseon Dynasty's Five Grand Palaces, Changdeokgung became the seat of power when Gyeongbukgung was destroyed in the 16th century. Despite several revolutions and reconstructions, the former royal villa in Jongno-gu has remarkably retained architectural elements that date back to Korea's Three Kingdoms period.
The 58-hectare Changdeokgung Palace Complex blends into its natural surroundings, one of the justifications behind its inscription in the UNESCO World Heritage site list back in 1997. Enter through the Donhwamun main gate, cross the Geumcheongyo stone bridge (Seoul's oldest) and marvel at the Injeongjeon throne hall and the Huwon garden. While in the area you can visit the Bukchon Hanok Village and Jongmyo Shrine.
