  • 13:15 Meet-Up at The Plaza Hotel Lobby
  • 13:30 Depart for Geumsunsa Temple
  • 14:30 Arrival and Registration at Geumsunsa Temple
    Room inside Step into the serene life of monks as you make your way into the tranquil grounds of Geumsunsa Temple. Get registered first before proceeding to your room to get settled.
  • 15:30 Orientation
    Your day monastic experience will begin with a brief orientation of temple manners and basic regulations within the temple.
  • 16:00 Temple Tour
    Buddha hall for program Admire Buddhist culture manifested through the temple's architecture, and see the symbols of Korean culture and the Buddhist religion throughout the temple grounds.
  • 17:30 Dinner
    Baru-Gongyang (monastic meal offering) Savor a vegetarian dinner prepared by the monks themselves. Observe how they pay respect to all life and people by sitting in an upright posture while making sure that no food is wasted.
  • 18:10 Bell Striking and Evening Ceremony
    Bell tower Hear the sound of the bell echoing across the temple grounds. This symbolizes how Buddha's teachings have enlightened the minds of people throughout history and across the world.
  • 18:50 108 Prostrations
    108 prostration Learn the importance of Buddhist practice of lowering oneself by bowing one hundred and eight times. This practice aims to impose humbleness and respect for other people.
  • 19:30 Cham-Seon (Seon Meditation)
    Hapjang Learn concentration and mindfulness as you join monks in quiet meditation. Known as the process of discovering one's self by true peace of mind, it is the act of sitting upright and meditating in a good posture, appeasing the mind and fostering one's moral senses.

    Dancheong Show your creativity in craft making, one of the daily activities that monks busy themselves with.

  • 05:00 Early Morning Ceremony
    Monks Start your day by taking part in the early morning ceremony; the first Buddhist practice of the day.
  • 06:40 Balwoogongyang Breakfast
    Balwoogongyang (monastic meal) Experience the monastic life beginning with quietly savoring a healthy serving of vegetarian meals while sitting with the monks. The act of eating silently is common practice and is done in appreciation of all life and people.
  • 07:20 Ulyeok (Communal Work)
    Contribute to the community by taking part in the daily chores and tasks of monks. Appreciate the essence of cooperation and hard work in achieving one goal; an important principle of Korean Seon.
  • 08:50 Meditation in the Forest
    Meditation in the forest Enjoy serenity as you meditate with monks in the lush forests around the temple. Quiet your mind and concentrate as you focus on your journey to tranquility.
  • 10:00 Da-Seon (Tea Ceremony)
    Da-Seon (Tea Ceremony) Another respected Buddhist practice, it seeks to discover contentment and genuine happiness by engaging the 5 senses through the act of brewing and drinking tea.

  • Drop-Off at The Plaza Hotel
    • Smoking and alcohol consumption is not allowed in the temple.
    • If less than 3 participants are booked, the activity may not operate.
    • Children 7 years old and above can participate in this activity.

    • No sleeveless, collarless shirts or T-shirts
    • No short pants
    • No mini skirts
    • No clothing that exposes a large amount of skin
    • No see-through fabrics
    • Only luggage that you can personally carry is allowed

    • Because the monastery is a religious sanctuary, participants are advised to refrain from showing public displays of affection, singing, dancing and playing loud music.

    • Private rooms will be provided but men and women will stay separately. Rooms will be assigned on the day of arrival upon registration.
    • The activity schedule is subject to change or cancellation due to weather, traffic conditions or temple situations.
    • Please arrive at your check-in location 15 minutes prior to the start time.
