  • 14:30 Depart for Jeondeungsa Temple
  • 16:30 Orientation
    Jeondeungsa Overnight Temple Retreat Upon arrival, you will be greeted by monks who will then give you a brief orientation into proper temple manners.
  • 17:00 Vegetarian Dinner
    Balwoogongyang (monastic meal) Enjoy a bowl of rice and vegetables, a healthy meal that invigorates the mind and body. You will sit in a straight posture as you eat silently, making sure that no single grain is wasted. This is a popular Buddhist principle that symbolizes respect.
  • 17:50 Striking a Bell
    Hear the distinct sound of the bell; a resounding representation of the beginning of the evening ceremony.
  • 18:00 Evening Ceremony
    Appreciate the wisdom and teachings of Buddhism by joining monks in the evening ceremony. Observe monks as they give gratitude to Sakyamuni Buddha through chants and solemn prayers.

  • 04:00 Wake Up
  • 04:30 Early Morning Ceremony
    Yebool Start your day by taking part in the early morning ceremony; the first Buddhist practice of the day. Walk across the temple ground with monks while enjoying the cold morning breeze.
  • 06:00 Breakfast
    Balwoogongyang (monastic meal) Enjoy peace and quiet as you savor your first meal of the day.
  • 07:30 Ulyeok (Communal Work)
    Feel the spirit of cooperation and hard work as you take part in the daily activities of monks. Learn the importance of unity by helping them in physical tasks and temple chores; a Korean Seon tradition.
  • 09:00 Tea Time with a Monk
    Da-Seon (Tea Ceremony) Meditate and sip a cup of tea together with monks. Sharpen your mindfulness through brewing and drinking tea as your five senses are engaged. Before you head to Jungnimdawon, drop by the temple office where you can claim your 1,000 KRW worth of discount.

  • Lunch
    Balwoogongyang (monastic meal) Savor your last meal at the temple and admire the monastic way of life one last time.
  • Head Back to The Plaza Hotel
  • Drop-Off at The Plaza Hotel
    • Smoking and alcohol consumption is not allowed in the temple.
    • If less than 3 participants are booked, the activity may not operate.
    • Children 7 years old and above can participate in this activity.
Required Items to Bring & Attire
    • No sleeveless, collarless shirts or T-shirts
    • No short pants
    • No mini skirts
    • No clothing that exposes a large amount of skin
    • No see-through fabrics
    • Only luggage that you can personally carry is allowed

    • Because the monastery is a religious sanctuary, participants are advised to refrain from showing public displays of affection, singing, dancing and playing loud music.

    • Private rooms will be provided but men and women will stay separately. Rooms will be assigned on the day of arrival upon registration.
    • The activity schedule is subject to change or cancellation due to weather, traffic conditions or temple situations.
    • Please arrive at your check-in location 15 minutes prior to the start time.
