Remembering the Korean War
The Forgotten War was a momentous battle between the pro-communist North Korea and pro-Western South Korea. Conflict arose when the US divided the former Japanese colony along the 38th Parallel, popularly known as the North and South Korean border, to maintain its influence in the country and push back the Soviet-communist forces.

Devastating battles and tedious negotiations stretched for 38 months until fighting ceased and an armistice was reached in 1953. The armistice was never formally signed, and uneasy tensions between the principle-torn nations still live up to this day.

The "hot" war would consequently spark the American and Soviet Cold War.

The Korean War got its moniker from the lack of US media attention, compared to the coverage received by the earlier second World War and the Vietnam War after.
The Korean Veterans Memorial in Washington DC has 19 steel statutes honoring the military. You can see their reflections on the granite walls on sunny days. If you count the statues and their reflections, you get 38 soldiers, a reference to the 38th Parallel, and the 38-month duration of the war.
