Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square – Hoan Kiem Lake
Also known as the "Lake of the Returned Sword," this body of water is Hanoi's historical center and one of the city's most prominent landmarks.

St. Joseph’s Cathedral
This beautiful Gothic-style church serves as the cathedral for Hanoi's Archdiocese which has over 4 million devotees. Constructed by the French colonial government in 1886, it is considered as the city's oldest church.

The Flag Tower of Hanoi
Part of the UNESCO World Heritage site, Hanoi Citadel, the Flag Tower of Hanoi has become the city's symbol. Built in 1812, the tower stands at 41 meters in height including the flag which mainly served as an observation post.

Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum
Located at the heart of Ba Dinh Square, this building serves as an important historical monument for the country. It is where Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam's most prolific leader was laid to rest.

Quan Thanh Temple
The construction of this Taoist temple dates as far back as the 11th century. The name of the temple can be translated as the Place of the Gods and it is part of Hanoi's Four Sacred Temples.

Tran Quoc Pagoda
Hanoi's oldest Buddhist temple at over 1450 years old. It was discovered on the shores of the Red River but was relocated to its current site on the West like in 1615.

Cua Bac Church (Northen Gate Church)
Named originally as the Church of Martyrs. the church was built in 1932 by the French government. It is considered as one of the major churches in the city and was used for a joint worship service for both Catholics and Protestants where the former United State's President George W. Bush participated during his visit to Vietnam in 2006.

The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is located in the center of the city and is commonly referred to as Hanoi Citadel. It was built in 1010 during the Ly Dynasty's reign as Vietnam's seat of power. The entire complex was used until the Nguyen Dynasty moved the capital to Hue.

The Temple of Literature
Hanoi's very own Confucian Temple, it is also the site of the country's very first national university, the Imperial Academy. The area features several temples dedicated to the scholastic teachings of Confucius and various scholars.

Hoa Lo Prison
The site was used to house political prisoners during the French occupation and was also used by the Vietnamese to hold US troops during the Vietnam war. American prisoners during the war named the site Hanoi Hilton. The prison was demolished during the 90's but the gatehouse has remained intact and is now used as a museum.

Vietnamese Women’s Museum
Opened to the public in 1995, the museum features over 1000 displays showing the vital roles Vietnamese women had in the country's history, culture and its identity.

Hanoi Post Office
A popular tourist destination in Hanoi where you can also get various souvenir items such as postcards and commemorative stamps.

Hanoi Opera House
Also known as the Grand Opera House, it is considered as one of the finest architectural structures in the city. The opera house is also an important part of Hanoi's history since it was built between 1901 to 1911.
