The Széchenyi Chain Bridge connects the previously separated Buda and Pest sides of the city, effectively bridging and uniting the Hungarian capital of Budapest. The 19th century stone bridge stretches across the Danube River and is both passable by pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles. The Chain Bridge is one of the Budapest must-sees on a sightseeing tour of the city. At night, the 15-meter suspension bridge is one of Budapest's most striking illuminated landmarks.
Trivia: There are two lions on either side of the Chain Bridge, serving as its stony guardians. According to legend, an observer pointed out that the lion guards have no tongues. The sculptor, János Marschalko, allegedly threw himself to the river for the oversight. This is untrue and the lions do have tongues which can be seen upon closer inspection.
