Named after a martyred bishop, Gellert Hill rises 235 meters high and offers a commanding view of Budapest. The hill was used as a military stronghold during World War II and forms part of the city's UNESCO World Heritage site listing: "Budapest, including the Banks of the Danube..." Standing atop the hill is a bronze monument called the Liberty Statue (Freedom Statue) with a marker dedicated to the freedom fighters of Hungarian independence. Visit the hill with a Budapest guided tour.
