St. Francis Basilica
Visit the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Italy. It stands in the location the saint asked to be buried. One of the oldest Gothic churches in Italy, the walls are decorated with frescoes by Cimabue, Giotto, and Lorenzetti.

St. Clare Basilica
Continue to the Basilica of St. Clare of Assisi, built out of local stone with coral tones. Gaze at the many well-preserved frescoes. It is dedicated to Santa Chiara (St. Clare), whose remains are housed in the crypt, where you can also see relics of St. Francis.

St. Mary of the Angels in Assisi
Then, proceed to St. Mary of the Angels in Assisi, a huge church that houses a little chapel (known as the Portiuncula, which literally means "little portion"). It is where St. Francis is said to have found his vocation and dedicated his life to God.
