Aranui Cave

Named after the Maori man who discovered the cave in 1910, Aranui features some of the most beautiful collection of cave formations in the world. The locals consider the cave as a mystical place and has been part of various local legends and myths, making it an equally important cultural treasure.

Cave Formations

Molded through millions of years of rain and other natural elements, the cave features a collection of stalactites and stalagmites unlike no other. Its ceiling and walls are filled with variations of limestone crystals, creating a design similar to intricate basilicas and cathedrals.

Cave Wetas

These fascinating creatures have been in existence since the prehistoric era. Wetas are fairly similar to locusts and crickets but have longer legs and antennae. Aranui Cave does not have a river running through it hence cave wetas are among the few living dwellers within this subterranean wonder.
