The tour was well organised and the guide really helpful and informative. Unfortunately the weather wasn't kind to us so we missed the lights, will definitely be back

Northern lights and a shooting star!

Reviewed by: aya, 2015/03/23

It was really exciting and still comfortable experience! I attended this tour on my own but bus picked me up from my Hotel and we then drove to a Lavvo base camp, which was about 1.5 hours journey. There was an informative video explanation during the drive, so that you can get to know about this natural phenomenon better. The base camp was pretty big and there the Sami people served us with coffee and local cake, made with brown cheese and cinnamon! The camp was really nice and cozy.
After a while our guide took us to the outside as the sky became clear. And then when with a little bit of luck we even saw a shooting star alongside of northern lights. That was really great! But only one thing: You need have your own camera in this tour! I didn’t have any capable one, so I had to ask some people from the tour to send me the pictures of northern lights later.

wonderful northern lights

Reviewed by: traveller, 2015/03/14

I had wonderful and amazing time in Northern Lights Tour with my daughter. We had really enjoyed northern light.
As the weather was rainy and heavy cloudy at the tour day, we were concerned about the night weather. The weather was still heavy cloudy when the bus left the meeting point hotel. However, the tour company selected the best condition view point outside Tromso among their three camps taking into account the weather forecast and their experience. During one hour bus trip to the view spot, we learned northern light through Promotion Video. The tour guide was very kind to reply to our enquiries on the possibility of northern lights and how to shoot northern lights by digital camera. At the view point, we could have relaxing time with hot chocolate and cookies served during waiting for northern lights.
A lot of very beautiful and wonderful northern lights came up through the breaks in the clouds and we really enjoyed them. Some northern lights were moving and glittering. In addition, we could looked at various northern lights from bus during backing to the meeting point hotel.

Even in September...

Reviewed by: Anonymous, 2015/03/13

We stayed in Tromso for 3 days, and decided to join the tour on day 2. We checked the weather forecast all the time but it always said clouds or rain..
But the guide was experienced and we went to the place where we were most likely to see the aurora, and indeed there was no clouds and we could see a wonderful starry sky.
The guide said that in 5 minutes a big aurora will appear, so we waited... and an amazing curtain showed up! It lasted for about 3 hours, from 21:00 to midnight.
Tour description says that there was a toilet at the base station, but as we followed the guides experience and stopped in the middle of nowhere by the cost, there was no toilet.
We went on the next day as well, but it was cloudy and could only see it through the clouds, so it was nothing like seeing it on a clear sky.
At the time we went, the temperature was 2 degrees at the lowest. We are used to cold winters, so it wasn't that bad. Apparent it's also possible to see aurora in late August, when its still quite warm. In March it can be even -25 degrees, so people usually stay in the bus and only go out when aurora appears.
Trusting in luck and guide's experience, we would definitely recommend this tour.

We saw it at the very end

Tromso was very cloudy on that day, so we went to the most distance station. Ath the base we were greeted with warm drinks and light snacks (people with meal package sat by the table). We had a pleasant chat with other participants, looking up at the sky now and then to see if aurora appeared. In the meantime Sami people performed some traditional folk songs for us. Then we went back to the bus to look for places where clouds cleared up, and when we could finally find it, we got off to see the aurora. It appeared only for a short time, so some people didn't even manage to set up all of their photography equipment. Maybe it would be better to practice it beforehand.

We saw it!

It was raining in Tromso, but base stations are being set up according to the latest forecasts, so when we reached it, the sky was clear. With other 10 people on the bus, we transferred to the base. Return trip took 4 hours + 1 hour on the spot, so it was a quite long tour and we arrived back at the hotel in the middle of the night.
We booked a meal package, hot chocolate and coffee were delicious, but I'm afraid it's better not to have high expectations in regards to the food :-)
We were of course able to see aurora without any problems, it was really impressive.
