Perfect way to spend a Sunday! Just need to return with friends :)

This trip offers very scenic views of the Bavarian alps from the top of mount Zugspitze. The tour guide (Elisabeth) was very warm, funny and informative - offering a lot of entertaining facts and stories about Munich and Bavaria during our bus ride to and from the Garmisch Partenkirchen region. Once you arrive at the summit, there is an opportunity to explore as you wish, so long as you reach the train at the specified group departure time.

For the athletic traveler, I would recommend bringing hiking shoes and staying a bit longer at the summit for some lite mountaineering to the summit cross. The glacier location was less exciting (at the time in early September) so it was not worth as long of a visit.

  • View of Lake Eibsee

  • Perfect day for exploring

  • View from the summit cross

  • View of the summit cross from the viewing platform

Perfect Trip if the Weather is Good

Reviewed by: tanaka, 2015/09/11

Apart of the fact that we had to wait for an hour for the ropeway, the tour was great.
The view was amazing.
It's cold, so you have to take some warm clothes.
We didn't have time to go to the highest point, which was a shame.

On the way, there is a possibility to have lunch at the mountain railway station (self-service). Of course it was quite expensive.
Because of the altitude it's easy to get tipsy after just one beer, so be careful.
On the way down from the mountain, its better to sit in the direction of travel. A big part of the journey was in the tunnel, so there wasn't much to see.

Wonderful!

The weather was amazing and we could enjoy breathtaking views.
Even though it was middle of the summer, there was snow at the peak.
We had to wait for the mountain train for about an hour, but the views around were wonderful, so we didn't complain!

A Taste of the Alps on the Highest Peak of Germany

Reviewed by: Mountain Grandpa, 2015/09/11

The views were even more breathtaking than I imagined.
It's easily accessible even for people with walking problems, as we got to the top by cable car and mountain railway. Ettal Monaster was wonderful. The view from the viewing platform was amazing and we had a lot of free time to stroll and play in the snow. The guide was also very nice and spoke in an easy to understand English.
