Relaxing small group indoor activity

I've always wanted to try weaving with a loom and decided to give this a try. Saori weaving apparently is a traditional Japanese weaving method where you freely weave according to your heart's desire. The instructor was very nice and accomodating and explained to methods step-by-step. While all the instructions were in Japanese, you don't need to know the language to weave up a nice scarf! There were so many colors of thread, it was so hard to choose. I would love to try it again and make something using different colors.

Good learning experience, just may be have enough time to complete the scarf

The scarf hand weaving class is great in overall.
Teacher is very friendly and helpful in teaching us, even my Japanese is level 0.
Only thing not so good is the time to make a reasonable length scarf does take quite some time. It's better you can reserve over 3 hours for the class, or else you may not be able to finish one scarf .

Nice break from touring Tokyo

Reviewed by: Shelly, 2019/05/03

Had a great time doing this- I went alone but had a lesson with a Japanese native who showed up around the same time. Had a great time learning different techniques and as students, we’d inspire the other to try something new. I left with a beautiful handwoven scarf. Be prepared to pay for your material on top of this fee (bring about 1,000 yen). Nice workshop and the instructor was just lovely.

Getting crafty

Reviewed by: ErinB, 2016/10/13

This was my first time looming and I loved it. You are free to choose your colors and to explore the art of Saori weaving through gentle guidance and your own creative urges. I was so happy with the way my scarf turned out and can't wait to wear it. I would definitely take another class to see where looming might take me next.

Come to Jota - you will learn a lot!

Reviewed by: Becky, 2016/10/11

I had a fantastic time at my very first trip to Jota Studio for the scarf weaving course. I had never touched a loom. I am not particularly crafty, but by the end of four hours, I knew how to thread my own loom and use it all on my own to make a 180 cm scarf that I will certainly be wearing. The lesson was all in Japanese, but non-English speakers should be able to figure it out. Please bring your own lunch or be prepared to go out and buy something in the middle of the lesson. Only tea was served during the four hours and I got very hungry. Apart from that, I also have my own scarf. Thank you, Jota! I'll be coming back!
