Oktoberfest 101: Did You Know?
🍺 There is such a thing called Reinheitsgebot which literally means "purity order" but is also known in English as the "German Beer Purity Law". Because of this set of regulations, German beers are considered to be some of the best and most consistent in the World.
🍺 Bavarian beer is known to have a robust flavor and higher alcohol percentage. It also has more sugar than normal and, if you aren’t used to it, will give you a higher likelihood of experiencing a hangover the next day!
🍺 The beer at Oktoberfest must come from one of 6 breweries in Munich - Paulaner, Spaten, Hacker-Pschorr, Augustiner, Hofbräu, and Löwenbräu.
🍺 Blend in with the locals and order your beer with this phrase: "Ein mass, bitte!" (/ayn-mass-bit-ta/ "A beer, please!")
🍺 Those who overdo it at Oktoberfest are called, "bierleichen" (literally, "beer corpses"). Stay hydrated so you don't turn into one, too!
🍺 Make sure you maintain eye contact when you clink your glass with your new friends and say, "Prost!" (only with beer, though! It's a different toast with wine or schnapps.)
🍺 Never toast with an empty glass - unless you want a cursed love life!
