Berchtesgaden Salt Mine Half-Day Tour from Salzburg
Overall Rating
4.33We really enjoyed the trip to the Berchtesgaden Salt Mines!
Reviewed by: sjswanson, 2018/01/13We really enjoyed the trip to the Berchtesgaden Salt Mines and wished that we had been in Salzburg during the time of year when you can combine that with a visit to the Eagle's Nest, but that location is closed during the winter. We were able to stop and get pictures from afar, which at least was something.
The scenery was lovely driving through the Black Forest and mountains of Germany. We had 30 minutes or so to shop in the village, get coffee (and lovely apple strudel) before re-boarding and taking a short ride to the mines. It was an informative guided tour and we thought well presented between the guide and pre-recordings.
The only disappointment was the "boat ride across the under- ground lake." It was basically a large pontoon boat that loaded on one side of the pond and took about 5 minutes to go slowly across to the other side and unload. However, it was interesting to see the reflection of the cave's ceiling in the mirror smooth water. But, one could do that without getting in the boat. Overall worth doing, but if we returned to Salzburg again, we would do other things.
