Although it was a bit hard to find the right vendor (Tokai Tours) at the station, everything worked out eventually and the tickets were obtained...the trip was a breeze.

Great Experience

Reviewed by: mcavalheiro, 2020/02/29

I went with my family to Japan, total of 8 people. We visit Tokyo and Kyoto. I am very glad we decided to go from Tokyo to Kyoto by Bullet Train. After doing a lot of research I found the best deals through Veltra and the booking process was really easy. We redeemed the voucher at Tokyo station the day before our trip. If you are travelling with a large group, the process could take a little long. The staff is very polite and gives you maps and explains how to use the tickets and how to find the boarding location. It could be a little intimating to try to take train at a foreign country, however that a lot of signs in English all over the station. Dont be afraid about asking for directions and help, they have staff everywhere to help you. The train offers wifi, is spacious, comfortable, clean and it's always on time. It's open seating, so you can pick your seat upon boarding. They have bathrooms and they sell coffee and snacks during the trip. I recommend packing some snacks too. Kyoto is a wonderful city, lots of history, temples and great food. On my next trip to Japan I will book other tours with Veltra and I will try to go to Kyoto again.

Best way to go to Kyoto

Reviewed by: Carmem G, 2020/02/29

If you are going to Japan, you MUST include Kyoto in your plans. The best way to go from Tokyo to Kyoto is by train (Shinkasen). The service is outstanding. It's super comfortable, clean, lots of leg space, clean bathrooms, wifi. They offer a lot of different departure times, making it really convenient. Totally worth the money. Booking with VELTRA was easy and I received my vouchers really quickly. I highly recommend booking the ticket with VELTRA, they have the best deals.

Easy to Book

O passeio no Shinkansen foi bem interessante. Tudo muito limpo, confortvel e bem sinalizado. A unica coisa que demorou um pouco foi a troca do voucher pelos ticktes, mas talvez tenha sido porque nosso grupo era grande.

It was really fun to ride on the Shinkasen. The train is really clean, comfortable and easy to find. Make sure to redeem your voucher in advance, the process might take a little while. I would recommed buying the tickts through VELTRA, it was easy to book and they had the best prices.

JR Flex Ticket Shinkansen Ticket

Reviewed by: Joel P, 2020/02/20

We used Veltra to purchase tickets on the Bullet Train from Tokyo to Kyoto. The online purchase was easy enough. However, finding the JR Tokai office in Tokyo Station was difficult. I had to ask several people for help finding the area it was in. Once we found the office, there is about a 15 minutes process for them to prepare your ticket package. This package will include a set of tickets for each direction on ANY Shinkansen train, even the fast Nozumi, and your experience coupon for use in Kyoto. They also include various receipts and schedules. It seemed like quite a package. The woman who assisted us was very nice and able to answer my questions and explain the process very well. The tickets are for unreserved seats on the train. They will explain which cars are unreserved. Getting to the train and finding seats was very easy, there are about 6 trains per hour to choose from. There ride was smooth and interesting, we could even see Mt Fuji on the journey. It was amazing to make the trip in about 2 hours, when Google Maps said by car was over 6 hours! Just to remember, you will need your ticket to exit the station at the end of your journey, so make sure you hold onto it. Overall, I would use this service again. It was easy, fun, and much cheaper than buying regular Shinkansen tickets.

  • A Shinkansen train in Kyoto Station.

  • Train platform where you get on the train.

Fantastic experience!

Reviewed by: Natasha, 2020/02/13

Thank you so much for the amazing experience Veltra!
We did a round trip to Kyoto from Tokyo on the Shinkansen and the best part was buying a delicious bento box to enjoy while on the scenic trip. The seats was also very spacious with the leg room!

Advice to future buyers: When you exchange your Veltra voucher in Tokyo, make sure that you receive the correct coupon for the "complementary experience" that is meant to be included with your travel tickets as we had a bit of trouble trying to use it for the Kyoto Tower Terrace dining experience. The manager told us that it was, in fact, just a subway ticket (though we were told at the time, specifically, that it was the coupon we could use for the experience of our choice) however, the manager was very kind and phoned up the company and kindly sorted it all out for us. I assume that the lady working at the ticket place just gave us the wrong paper by mistake.

Overall, it was a valuable experience and deal. Would buy it again!

JR shinkansen flex ticket round trip from Tokyo to Kyoto with included experience coupon.

Reviewed by: Jeff, 2020/01/12

We used the Shinkansen round trip flex ticket from Tokyo to Kyoto and back to Tokyo. This ticket is a non reserved seat, which means you do not have a specific seat number reserved for you and can typically only sit in the first 3 cars of the train. We got a seat both times but there is a chance you will have to stand if it is a particularly busy train. We had to stand on the bullet train from Nagano to Tokyo and paid $80 for a one way non-reserved ticket (this was a purchase we made separate if this package).

So, I think that if you are taking a bullet train more than twice you will save more by buying the JR pass for foreigners (which is roughly $260 per person and provides unlimited train and JR operated subway riding for a two week period).

For the experience coupon we chose a buffet lunch at Kyoto tower which was delicious as you got to taste different foods. The experience also included a ticket to the observation deck at the top of the tower which provided an awesome view of the entire city.
Most of the "experiences" offered are food related from the handout the site provided. Make sure when you go to your experience of choosing that you take the "experience coupon" with you which are placed inside the same envelope as your train tickets.

Overall this deal saved us money because they are compensating us some for this review and we only needed to use the bullet train one time after our time in Nagano. If you find yourself in a similar situation I highly recommend this train ticket and experience package it was simple, easy and lots of fun.
