We had two hours of free time in both Hida Takayama and Shirakawa-go, but it felt a bit tight. Given the travel time, it might have been unavoidable, but I think having two and a half hours would have given us a little more leeway. Most of the tour participants were foreign tourists, and the tour guide was also from China (I found it a bit difficult to understand their Japanese). We were blessed with good weather, and it turned out to be a great trip. Thank you very much.
飛騨高山、白川郷それぞれ二時間の自由時間でしたが、ややタイトでした。
移動時間の関係で仕方がないのかもしれませんが、2時間半あれば少し余裕があったかなと思いました。

There were also a few Japanese participants.
The guide was fluent in Japanese.
Due to a road closure from an accident, we couldn't go to the main Shirakawa-go.
Instead, we went to Gujo Hachiman.
No one complained about the cancellation of Shirakawa-go; everyone quietly listened to the explanation, so I felt that all the participants were reasonable people.
The bus company and the guide did everything they could, so while it was disappointing not to visit Shirakawa-go, I was pleased with the experience.
People often say that foreigners lack manners, but everyone was very well-mannered.

The course was two hours in Takayama and two hours in Shirakawa-go. It was a good decision to have lunch in Takayama as per the guide's explanation, and we were on schedule. The autumn leaves were just beginning to change, and I could feel the season. In Shirakawa-go, I experienced the quiet lifestyle of the snow country from long ago. It was unfortunate that the Wada House, a national cultural asset, was closing early and we couldn't go inside. The bus was comfortable, the guide provided clear explanations, and everyone else on board was quiet, making for an enjoyable time.

I was able to see the festival in Hida Takayama, and Shirakawa-go had great weather, making it the best day ever. When we gathered in the morning, there were mostly foreigners and only four Japanese people, which made me a bit anxious. However, our guide KAKU was very attentive and communicated in Japanese, which was great. He also recommended shops and food, allowing us to move around efficiently. Unfortunately, the weather was not great, so I focused on the food. The Hida beef, gohei mochi, ramen, doburoku, and firm tofu were all delicious. While dining, I felt like there wasn't enough time in Takayama, so I think 2.5 hours in Takayama and 1.5 hours in Shirakawa-go would be better.
Also, the driver was speeding quite a bit, so it was nice to get back about an hour earlier than planned, but personally, I would prefer safer driving.

I felt that the two hours of free time in Takayama was a bit short. If you try to see all the recommended spots, there isn't enough time to leisurely look at souvenirs. The guide was not Japanese, but was fluent in both Japanese and English, and was kind and pleasant, which I appreciated. It takes about three hours from Nagoya, and I was able to enjoy the trip without worrying about driving fatigue. I felt that around 7,000 yen during the Obon season was a great deal.

Overall, it was great. Most of the participants were travelers from abroad, with about 70% coming from China. Everyone was well-mannered, adhered to the meeting times, and maintained a quiet atmosphere on the bus, making it a pleasant experience.

It was cloudy, but the wind was cool and comfortable for this time of year. The participants were punctual, so we were able to return an hour early. The guide was kind and cute, and the driver was skilled. I have no complaints; it was fun. By the way, there were about five Japanese people.

I was looking for tourist spots in Nagoya that I could visit before the night bus departure, and the timing and price were just right, so I decided to join as a solo participant. As the reviews mentioned, it was mostly a tour for international travelers, with about 40 people, and only three of us were Japanese.
In the morning, I felt a bit anxious, but everyone was very well-mannered, acted on time, and the bus was completely quiet and comfortable. The tour guide was also very polite, explaining the pamphlets one by one at each seat, which made it easy to understand.

This was my first time visiting Takayama and Shirakawa-go. It was a one-day course departing from and returning to Nagoya. The tour guide and the bus driver were wonderful, making the journey comfortable both ways. Just before arrival, the tour guide wrote notes on a map and explained it to each group. The driver was always smiling and had a great vibe.
As for the sightseeing spots, I can say they are "a must-visit at least once in your life." Especially in Shirakawa-go, I recommend the "interior tours" at several houses. I visited Meizenji, and it was incredibly fascinating to see the depth of history and culture!

Both the bus driver and the guide were very kind and accommodating. There were just under 40 tour participants, and our family of four was the only Japanese group. Some reviews mentioned that those who might have reservations about joining a tour with foreigners (from Korea and Taiwan) should consider it carefully, but we had no such concerns at all. The guide was an excellent person who was fluent in English, Chinese, and Korean. They distributed maps and provided detailed explanations to each individual, which was very kind and greatly appreciated. The other guests were quiet and punctual, and although there was a bit of a traffic jam waiting for parking at the entrance to Shirakawa-go, we were able to get through quickly, which was good.
However, it was disappointing that while the two-hour exploration of Takayama was nice, two hours in Shirakawa-go was not enough, and I couldn't make it to the observation deck. The shuttle bus had a long line, and I tried to walk but ended up taking the wrong path. If the tour can't be extended due to the driver's working hours, I think it would be better to have an hour and a half in Takayama and two and a half hours in Shirakawa-go.
The foreign students I brought along (from Vietnam) were very moved and said they created lifelong memories, so it was worth taking them. Thank you very much.

I participated in this bus tour, but unfortunately, the service was very poor, and I cannot recommend it.
1. Tour Guide's Response
The tour guide was Chinese and had limited Japanese skills, making communication difficult. Additionally, they seemed inexperienced with the tour's progression, and information sharing about meeting places and times was insufficient.
2. Mistake in Meeting Place Guidance
There was no announcement regarding the meeting place or itinerary changes, and we ended up waiting in the wrong location. Afterward, we headed to the correct meeting place, but the bus ended up passing by the original location where we were waiting. If there had been an explanation when I called about the delay, we wouldn't have needed to move unnecessarily. It was very challenging to rush down a crowded street with a small child in the snow and poor footing.
3. Impact of Other Participants' Delays
Other participants arrived significantly late, causing a major delay (about 2 hours). By the time we reached our destination, many shops were closed, ruining the sightseeing experience. The return home was also quite late, which was particularly tough for those with children.

4. コストとサービスのバランスが悪い

It was my first time in Hida Takayama and Shirakawa-go. We had 2 hours of free time in Hida Takayama and 2 hours in Shirakawa-go. The time in Takayama was just right, but 2 hours in Shirakawa-go was not enough. This was because the walking path to the viewpoint I wanted to visit was closed due to snow, so the only option was the shuttle bus, which had a long line of about an hour to board. In the end, it was certain that I wouldn't make it back in time for the bus departure, so I reluctantly gave up (tears). Since the shuttle bus only came every 20 minutes, I think anyone wanting to go to the viewpoint during this season needs at least 3 hours of free time... Other than that, I was very satisfied! I was also able to buy the water pudding. About 90% of the tour participants were foreigners, but there were no particular issues.

During our trip to Nagoya as a couple, we spontaneously decided to visit Hida Takayama and Shirakawa-go. To our surprise, once we got past the highway, it was like entering a snowy country (laughs). We were amazed by the many inbound travelers, and we enjoyed conversations with them while savoring delicious food. The gohei mochi, skewered dumplings, Hida beef, and amazake were all so tasty!
