Things to Do in Winter in Hokkaido

Four of us visited Hokkaido for the first time in April 2024. After spending a few days exploring the vibrant city of Sapporo, we ventured out to Abashiri—a more remote, rural part of the region. Wanting to make the most... more of our time and truly experience the natural beauty of the area, we booked a day-long tour through Veltra.

From start to finish, the experience far exceeded our expectations. Our guide, Taki, was exceptional—knowledgeable, organized, and incredibly attentive to both safety and enjoyment. The day was filled with unforgettable moments, from snowshoeing through serene landscapes to spotting local wildlife. Taki's passion for the area and his thoughtful guidance truly made the tour special.

We cannot recommend this tour—and especially Taki—highly enough. If you're visiting Abashiri and want a meaningful, well-curated adventure, this is absolutely the way to go.

This tour will definitely be a core memory that will never be forgotten. Taki San speaks very good English and is well aware and informed of the history of the Eastern Hokkaido region aside from being super friendly and ... morehospitable. He made sure that I enjoyed every second of it. I am happy that I wont be worried anymore if I ever come back to Eastern Hokkaido as Peacan Kikaku is the answer.

Very professional staff at tour company. Good value and convenient as Upopoy is over an hour away. There was someone on hand to translate into English, I don't know if this person goes to all the tours. (Staff at Upopoy... more are poor at English but this isn't tour company's fault.)

Jim-san & Masahiko-san gave my mom and a memorable smelt Fishing experience! They kindly fetched us at an agreed time, took great care of our wellbeing and safety throughout the day. Thought us with patience, helping us ... moreto set up the fishing line and guiding us with smelt fishing technique. They made sure my mom caught some smelt too to complete her experience. Jam-San & Masahiko-san are very caring guides. Jim-san & Masahiko-san are very well equipped!We were very surprise with the different tools used during our smelt Fishing tour!
