I was torn between renting a car and taking a tour, but I decided on the tour because I wanted to focus on sightseeing at a leisurely pace. The bus tour was great because I didn't have to worry about figuring out the route or finding parking; it efficiently took us from one place to another. The guide's explanations were very thorough and easy to understand, and I learned a lot about the history of Shodoshima and various other facts. I'm really glad I participated in the tour.

For those who don't rent a car, you can efficiently tour Shodoshima. However, since meals are eaten at Kankakei, it's really just a light snack. There are many lovely cafes in the movie village, but I think it would be difficult to find time to eat.
Many shops in Shodoshima close by 2:30 PM, so if you prioritize meals, I recommend exploring on your own to enjoy a delicious lunch. The guide's explanations were very clear, and I became well-informed about Shodoshima's geography and history.

On a very hot day, traveling in a perfectly air-conditioned bus with a friendly and rare professional guide and a professional driver was great. We visited various places that we wouldn't have been able to navigate smoothly on our own. I highly recommend it. The information about the meeting time from Veltra was a bit confusing, so I contacted the bus company directly.

Many people seem to misunderstand that you can explore Shodoshima by rental bicycle, but it's actually the second largest island in the Seto Inland Sea after Awaji Island, and one of its highlights, Kankakei, is quite high up in the mountains.
As a result, since I don't drive, the only option I had was this bus tour, which efficiently took us to the sights, and I felt reassured by the experienced bus guide's commentary. The seating on the large tour bus was also comfortable.
Although the popular Angel Road was not included in the stops, when I requested it, they dropped me off in front of a nearby international tourist hotel, allowing me to fully enjoy Angel Road during low tide on my own. Of course, I had to make my way to the ferry terminal by myself, but the bus driver kindly provided the phone number for a taxi company, making it easy to arrange a ride (it seems that if you push yourself, you can reach the ferry terminal on foot in about 30 minutes).
I appreciated the discount coupons at the souvenir shop, which is perfect for passing the time at the ferry terminal, as well as the limited-time gift of hand-stretched somen noodles.
However, it was disappointing that lunch was not included, and the only options at Kankakei were simple snacks (like olive beef croquette burgers).
Although it was a Japanese-language bus tour, there were many customers from China, Taiwan, and South Korea, and important information like the bus departure times was shown by the guide on a handwritten board, so no one was late, making it a comfortable experience.
I've heard that during the autumn foliage season, they even operate two large buses due to its popularity.
小豆島はレンタサイクルでも周遊できると勘違いしてる方も多いようですが、淡路島に次いで瀬戸内海では2番目に大きい島ですし、見所の一つである寒霞渓はかなり山の上にあります。
結果的に、車を運転しない自分には、このバスツアーしか選択肢が無かったのですが、効率よく見所を回っていただき、またベテランのバスガイドさんの観光案内にも安心できました。大型観光バスの座り心地も良かったです。
立ち寄る先に、今話題のエンジェルロードが入っていないのですが、リクエストしたら近くの国際観光ホテル前で降ろしてくれたので、個人で干潮時のエンジェルロードを存分に楽しむことが出来ました。もちろん、フェリー乗り場までは自力でたどり着かなければいけないのですが、バスの運転手さんが系列のタクシー会社の電話番号を教えてくれたのでスムーズに配車もできました（頑張れば30分くらいでフェリー乗り場に徒歩で辿り着くことも可能なようです）。
フェリー乗り場で時間つぶしに最適なお土産売り場での割引券、期間限定の手延べそうめんのプレゼントも有り難かったです。
但し、昼食が含まれておらず、寒霞渓で簡単な軽食（オリーブ牛コロッケバーガーなど）しか選択肢が無かったのが残念です。
日本語のバスツアーですが、中国・台湾・韓国のお客様も多く、バスの出発時間など大事な情報はガイドさんが手書きのボードで見せて回っていらしたので、誰も遅刻する方などおらず快適でした。
紅葉の季節は大型バス二台まで出すほど人気だそうです。

I was able to visit many points, so the time spent at each location was a bit rushed, but I enjoyed it. On the way back, there were people being dropped off near Angel Road. The charm of the island, as described by the guide who spoke so enthusiastically, kept me entertained during the journey.

I had a hard time getting around Shodoshima by local bus before, so this time I used a tour. I wished I had more time at the Twenty-Four Eyes Movie Village and Olive Park. I wanted to eat school lunch at the movie village. I also wished I had more time at Angel Road. I'm glad we were able to visit places like Kankakei that are hard to reach on our own. It was fun. I found this while researching rental cars for my first trip to Shodoshima. There was no stress from driving in an unfamiliar area, and the bus guide's stories were enjoyable. The driver's professional driving made navigating the narrow roads smooth. Both of them were kind, and I had a fun time chatting with them while waiting for everyone to gather. The first destination was a pristine white Greek windmill, and the guide made it exciting with storytelling and behind-the-scenes filming anecdotes, making the Twenty-Four Eyes Movie Village nostalgic and enjoyable as well.

Since there are few buses on the route, it seemed difficult to sightsee, so I decided to use this tour. It was great to be able to visit the main tourist spots with a guide. You can efficiently visit the tourist spots in Shodoshima. There was plenty of time to stop at each location. The bus guide's explanations were clear and fluent, and despite the loud conversations from a group seated at the back of the bus, she professionally recited a passage from the novel "Twenty-Four Eyes." On the way back, you can also get off at the International Hotel, allowing you to visit Saikoji Temple, the Maze Town, and Angel Road.

Since my flight back to Narita was at 20:30, I had a free day. After staying in Takamatsu the previous night, I took a high-speed ferry to the island early in the morning and signed up for a tour to see the beautiful autumn foliage at Kankakei. I had previously spent a similar free day exploring the island alone, but this time I enjoyed the benefits of a guided tour. The tour guide was thorough and easy to understand, and there were also some recommendations from the guide that I didn't expect. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I could enjoy nostalgic "fried bread school lunch" at the "Movie Village," so I decided to have lunch there instead of at Kankakei, and I was very satisfied with that meal.
One inconvenience I experienced was due to the tour being on a Monday; the restaurant at Kankakei was closed during lunchtime, so I could only eat at the snack corner and ended up with a longer free time without a meal. This is why I chose to have lunch at the Movie Village, but the time allotted for lunch was short, so I couldn't enjoy my meal leisurely. Additionally, the departure time was tied to the high-speed ferry schedule from Takamatsu. The recommended bus departure was too early, and the next option was cutting it close, leading to an explanation that felt like special treatment. However, it seemed like there was enough time on the next bus as well. If there had been a normal explanation without the special treatment, I could have enjoyed breakfast at my accommodation in Takamatsu more comfortably, which was disappointing.

前日の高松宿泊から、早朝に高速船で島に渡り、紅葉のハイシーズンの寒霞渓を見たいとツアーに申し込みました。
以前は同じような日程で空いた1日を一人で島巡りをしたことがありますが、
今回はガイド付きのツアーで、そのメリットを充分楽しめました。
所謂、観光ガイドは丁寧で判りやすかったのですが、その他に所々に入るガイドさんのお勧め！今回はあまり期待をしていなかった「映画村」で昔懐かしい「揚げパン給食」が食べられるとのことで、寒霞渓での昼食時間は我慢して映画村での昼食にしてその食事に大満足です。
不便を感じたのが月曜日のツアーであったせいか、寒霞渓の昼食時間でレストランが開いていなくて、軽食コーナーでしか食事をすることが出来ず食事なしで長めの自由時間を持て余したこと、これがあったので映画村での昼食にしたのですがここは昼食にしては時間が短くゆっくり食事を楽しむことが出来ませんでした。
それと、主発の時間が高松からの高速船の時刻に関係付けられていますが、
お勧めの便ではバスの出発の時間に早着過ぎ、次の便ではギリギリなので特別扱いのような説明がありましたが、次の便でも余裕があったようです、何も特別扱いせずに普通に説明があれば、高松の宿での朝食が余裕をもって楽しめたのに残念です。

From the departure at Tonosho Port, we spent the entire day enjoying ourselves without a moment of boredom, thanks to our veteran guide. There were plenty of explanations about the sightseeing spots along the way from the bus windows. The next day, we explored on our own with a rental car. It was a bit disappointing that the autumn leaves at Kankakei were still a little early, but since it gets very crowded during the season, I've heard that the round trip on the ropeway takes a lot of time due to the long lines, so I recommend the tour! ✨✨ The next day, when I was at the rental car desk, they asked if we had gone to Kankakei. The reason for that question was that the winding mountain roads can be challenging, especially for women who are not used to driving, so be careful! It was indeed a ropeway station at the mountain peak we looked up at... I'm glad we went the day before. The locations on this tour are quite spread out. Initially, we thought about exploring on our own, but since we had no familiarity with the area and the local bus service is limited, we decided to rely on this tour. 当初自分たちだけであちこち行ってみる考えでしたが、土地勘が全くないことと、ローカルバスの本数も限られることから、今回こちらにお世話になることにしました。結果大正解！搭乗中もバスガイドさんが各エリアの詳しい説明をしてくださったり、二十四の瞳の朗読（台本なし！！）や、情緒たっぷりの歌を披露して下さったりして退屈する時間は全くありませんでした。各スポットを40−50分程度の駆け足で回るこちらのツアーは、私たちにとってコスパ良しタイパ良しの理想ツアーでした。各スポットをじっくりと見てまわりたい方には不向きかもしれませんが、とりあえず小豆島の雰囲気と王道スポットをざっくり見て回ってみたいという方にはおすすめです。お土産もいただき嬉しいツアーでした。

The veteran guide's enjoyable talk and the sightseeing spots we visited were generally good, but it seemed that the tour price was made to look cheaper by separating the entrance fees for attractions and lunch. At the arrival point, if you didn't participate in the attraction, you had no choice but to wait on the bus. When I asked the staff before departure, they humorously replied that if you didn't enter the attraction, you could only count the number of trees during that time. While it was funny, if participation in the attraction is mandatory, it would be kinder to include it in the initial tour price. Additionally, lunch was limited to a single menu at the mountaintop shop, so I would have preferred that to be included in the tour price as well. Everything else was good.

I participated in a day trip bus tour that included visits to Choshikei Monkey Park, Kankakei, the Twenty-Four Eyes Movie Village, and Olive Park. It was an efficient tour lasting about 5 and a half hours, and I had a great time. There were 13 participants, so there was plenty of space on the seats, allowing us to explore each location in a relaxed atmosphere. I think we could have enjoyed Kankakei and the Twenty-Four Eyes Movie Village even more if we had about 30 more minutes. The bus guide was quick-witted, which was great. I would recommend this bus tour to anyone, but I wish we had a little more time.

I could sit on that bench all day, gazing at the ocean. Although the cherry blossoms at Kankakei had already finished blooming, the fresh greenery provided a wonderful view. I would love to visit during the autumn foliage season as well. By the way, you must purchase tickets for the Monkey Kingdom and the Movie Village, so be sure to sign up for a course that includes the ticket set. As for the meeting time, just be at the meeting place in time for the 9:45 AM departure. It’s difficult to kill time if you arrive early. On the way back, you can get off not only at Tonosho Port but also at Olive Park, Ikeda Port, or Angel Road if you wish. Next time, I will watch "Twenty-Four Eyes" to prepare before going. 東京発の色々なバスツアーに参加してきましたが、小豆島のこのコースが一番感動しました。コース設計に無駄がなく、ガイドさんとドライバーさんのレベルも高い。二十四の瞳は全く知らなかったので期待していなかったものの、昭和感のあるセットと美しい海がエモすぎて涙が溢れてきました。終日あのベンチに座って海を眺めていたい。寒霞渓も桜は終わっていたものの、新緑が素晴らしい景色でした。紅葉の時期にも訪れてみたい。ちなみに、おさるの国と映画村は入場券購入必須なので、入場券セットのコースに申し込みましょう。集合時間は9時45分の出発時刻に間に合うよう集合場所に居れば大丈夫です。早めに着いても時間を潰すのは難しいです。帰りは土庄港だけではなく、希望したらオリーブ公園や池田港、エンジェルロードで降りることも可能です。今度は二十四の瞳を見て予習してから行きます。小豆島最高！

It was great to easily visit the highlights. The weather was nice, and the sea was beautiful. On the way back, I got off at Ginpuura and walked home while enjoying Angel Road and the Maze Town. I think it's nice that the day ends early. However, I felt it was a bit expensive.

The sightseeing bus was good. However, the meeting time stated on Veltra was different from the actual time. I think it might be because they hadn't updated the meeting time from the autumn season. From now on, I plan to book the sightseeing bus directly without going through a travel agency. In that sense, it was a good learning experience.
観光バスはよかったです。
ただベルトラに書かれている集合時間と実際は違いました。たぶん秋のシーズンの集合時間から変更してなかったからでは？と思います。
これからは旅行代理店を通さず、直接観光バスに予約しようと思いました。
その意味ではいい勉強になりました。
