Hayato Mishima is the collective name for three islands: Heta-kojima, Benten-jima, and Oki-kojima, in order from the near north side. These are formed by volcanic activity of Sakurajima and the Aira Caldera. You may encounter dolphins, Over 300 dolphins of three different species reside in the bay.
Niijima is an island formed by the continuous uplift of lava flowing into the seabed and subsequent submarine eruptions, starting from the "An-ei Great Eruption" in 1779 (An-ei 8) and continuing into the following year. It became uninhabited in August 2013, but now has a population of 2.
There is a legend that Yamato Takeru no Mikoto landed here from his warship during the conquest of Kumaso. Approximately 1 km of the area is a walking trail, and Wakamiko Shrine is enshrined there. Many anglers can be seen there on holidays.

You will enter "Shioyagamoto Port," the 8th evacuation port on Sakurajima. You can compare the scenery on the lava from different eras: the Showa lava (1946) and the Tenpyo-Hoji lava (764). The hot spring components that well up from the seabed dye the sea an emerald green.
