I toured Kyoto city with my mother. The driver was very knowledgeable, so if we communicated where we wanted to go, he would suggest the time allocation and the order of the places to visit. Had an awesome time and would highly recommend. The restaurant is gorgeous and the staff extremely hospitable. The kaiseki dishes were very well liked by the three of us and their proprietary sake was excellent.

Our interpreter Peter was super chill and knowledgeable. Lastly our maiko, Kana Sue was fascinating to watch - the makeup, hair style, kimono, and all the meanings behind each intention of dress; the couple of dances she performed; and the hospitality services. Not to mention learning of her and many other girls' extremely committed lifestyle choice and what that entails to become a geisha was an eye opening seminar.

I would have liked to see some singing and instrument playing, but perhaps requesting a geisha over a maiko would have been prudent. An interpreter is necessary unless your fluent. Overall it was a highlight of my trip and I would do again.

It was a family summer vacation.
With a typhoon forecast, we had a short three hours, but we were taken to the long-awaited Kinkaku-ji and Ginkaku-ji.
On the way back, the driver suggested a different station than the one we had planned, allowing us to have some extra time for our next train. The rest of the schedule also had plenty of time, and we were able to enjoy ourselves to the fullest.

We rented a private boat as a family. It was a hot day with a 12:00 boarding time, but the boat had a roof, so it wasn't hot at all, and it felt very pleasant. We had lunch on the boat, bringing our own rice balls and other snacks. Along the way, a convenience store boat came by, and we bought some pickled cucumbers, which made for the perfect lunch with our rice balls and croquettes! I had a wonderful trip thanks to our guide and driver, Mr. Suzuki, who was incredibly attentive and showed us the hidden gems of Kyoto!

When I shared that it was my husband's family's first visit to Japan, along with their hometowns and interests, he picked out recommended sightseeing spots for us. Since we were traveling with a baby, he ensured safe driving and selected routes that suited the day's weather. It was very helpful to visit places we would never have thought of on our own.

At each location, he passionately shared historical stories, insights about Zen, and explanations about architectural features and name origins, which were very educational. Even if we had visited with a guidebook, I believe there would have been many things we wouldn't have understood or noticed. Having a guide made our time very meaningful.

I also appreciated the hospitality, such as taking family photos at recommended spots and lending us an umbrella. I would definitely like to request his services again when we visit Kyoto!

We wanted to visit Kifune Shrine, but thanks to our driver's advice, we changed our plans and were able to pray for our son's exam success at Kitano Tenmangu instead, which made for a fulfilling experience.
